I am a grandma, so technically not a girl any longer. I am female and a grandma, and I build my own computers. I love to play games online. I normally play MMORPG's with my daughter, who is 35 now. So, she is not a girl any longer either. Someday I hope to play with my granddaughters, although they are girls, 2 and 3 years old. I think too young yet to play.

That's awesome. =D

I dislike girls who think they are special because they play games.

Special? I usually feel more like some exotic animal when I randomly chit chat about my hobbies and when stuff like gaming and 3D modelling come up I hear "but you're a girl, shouldn't you like make-up more?".

Never to old to be a girl. Especially when you have the heart of a 15 year old boy.

I like how some people are like "I'm girl, and I play games! I'm cool, right?" then others are like "oh man girls who play games are HAWT." Both people are feeding off of each other.

Who cares if your a chick, or a dude. Don't use your six to get attention on a video game FORUM, the one place where attention is useless since you are anonymous.
I'd say in a demographics thread that was specifically asking females to stand up and be counted among Skyrim's fans, posting to clarify oneself as female is on-topic, and not a bid for attention. If you don't care whether someone is "a chick or a dude", then surely this topic isn't of interest to you.

Married female Elder Scrolls fan, reporting in.

33 yr old female here

Been madly in love with TES since Morrowind...and have been drooling over Skyrim ever since it was announced...

Have already informed my friends that after Friday, I'll likely speak to them again sometime in the spring

Side note - I dislike girls who think they are special because they play games. I just get this bragging tone from a lot of the posts on this thread. "I have a [censored], and I game! BOOYAH!"

To be honest, I kind of dislike that too; way too often I'll encounter women in MMO's or over voice chat who basically instantaneously find a way to sneak their gender into whatever conversation they may be having, and then repeatedly bringing it back up when she was falling from the center of attention. At times like those I usually just lie and say I am a man just so the aforementioned female doesn't turn it into a p**** contest.

We're not living in the 80's anymore; women play video games, and a lot of women at that. Placing oneself on a pedestal for defying a stereotype only serves to reinforce that stereotype.

But to be fair, you are on a topic whose specific purpose is to count and discuss gaming in the female world - thereby giving leave to said women to state their own gender, and hence, rendering the theory that they are "bragging", null.

I'm not a girl, but my wife is. And she LOVES the ES series as much as me.

How did you get so lucky as to find a woman like that? I would like nothing better than a nice woman that I can sit and talk video games with.

I was hoping to find the answer to this question myself, being male i think it would be interesting in seeing what kind of girls like skyrim.

I intended to test my hypothesis by going to the midnight release at gamestop, i then had a thought (rare among my generation) that conjured (No not with magic) up images of 12-35 year old guys dressed up in capes and larping across the parking lot. I then surmised that this would not be the best environment to see the potential that the ES female community offered in the way of numbers. And also as a result of i am pretty sure i am going to stay in my car with the door locked lest i be cursed by some form of spell from a psychological and socially underdeveloped young man. Also it's chicago and its cold.

It can be nice, definitely. I met the woman I love right here on the Bethesda forums seven years ago. But it can have its downside as well. Let's just say that there is such a thing as a "gaming widow."

We do have a community poll here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1105300-community-poll/ though obviously the focus is more general. ( I wanted to say more "broad", but...:P)

This topic seems to come round a lot. This is the last thread I can recall that dealt with the same subject, for those who are interested. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1205988-how-many-of-you-are-women-who-play-tes/

This is quite true. My husband lost me recently to "Dark Souls". :(

My girlfriend is a girl. *nod nod*

She didn't like Oblivion. Thought it was dull and soulless. She loved Dragon Age: Origins and despised DA2. Will she like Skyrim? Who can tell? Will she try it? Who knows? And the point of all this? I don't know....

more hyped for SKYRIM than Oblivion! Played Morrowind and it was great for its time, but Oblivion fixed and added a lot of things that became my favorite until now which I'm sure Skyrim will surpass it. :)

I think you'd be surprised by how many women are gamers. It's not something we always like to bring attention to. From non-gamers we face the stigma of being a 'loser' or people think we're weird for liking such a traditionally male-dominated hobby - although, this is starting to fade as gaming becomes more common. Still, you'd be surprised at the looks mothers give me when I'm working at GameStop and I'm talking to their sons about video games. It's like they're checking me for abnormalities to explain why I like video games.

Even in the gaming community we have it rough. Everyone knows about the heckling we get online. Many men will make it clear they assume women gamers are fat/ugly/socially awkward - just because they play video games. Even worse, imo, is that women get labeled as an 'attention [censored]' simply for revealing, or refusing to hide, their gender. One of the reasons I am an 'outted' female gamer on forums like these is to try and break down these stereotypes. I hope in the future it gets easier to be both female and a gamer, because I am proud to be both and don't feel like hiding either.

....sorry got a little OT and rant-y. Whoops :)

its probably also better for the male gamers so they can interact with the better half.
