Am I safe to assume this is an attempt at trolling? It's hard to tell.

No, I'm just really concerned about what the implications for the future are due to this trend. Who better to shed some light than those advancing it?

You make it sound like cartoons are bad, and that enjoyment of a cartoon is inherently childish and immature. You're creating a false dichotomy, that one can only be mature or immature, and you're creating a false cause when you assume cartoons make one immature. There is nothing to be concerned about.

I recommend you try the show, and if you find yourself suddenly reverting to an infantile level of mental function, then you have cause for concern.

I wouldn't be too concerned as with any fandom there are those that will take things to the extreme. Anime fans can be one example where you have different levels where people can be downright obsessed with a series to a point it becomes a problem. The same goes for anything when dealing with obsession along with the powerful implications it imposes on people. When WoW was taking off we saw the many fans completely dedicated to it even seeing the media jump in saying people were dieing because of it.

There were two I think three incidents were the loss of life occured due to WoW. Believe a kid killed himself because of the game committing suicide while a baby died in china because the parents were playing WoW at a computer store.

Hopefully the overall tone of the series will keep such ghastly things from happening but the overall thing to keep in mind is people will be obsessed with anything. MLPFIM is a great show that reaches out to audiences young and old playing on a fine line of key factors. This is what has drawn many people including myself to the show since it has good animation, well done stories, and the "old" audience factor. The references in season 1 to advlt stuff was great with season 2 shaping up to be even better.

Oh no there is nothing inherently wrong with cartoons, they have a wide range of themes designed for a wide range of audiences. I'm talking about the trend where people are infatuated with things meant for children when they are not children themselves. Not all cartoons are obviously, but I was being specific about this one.

Are you aware you are participating in an age regression fetish?

Are you aware of the show in question, or are you just going on hearsay?

The last episode in particular touched on themes of famine, war, politics, prejudice and racism.

Please, start giving some substance to your argument before I report you.

Well maybe this new MLP is completely different from what I remember in the 80's then, there was no 'advlt stuff' to be found there. I guess I'll have to watch the new one once to see if there is tongue-in-cheek humor there for advlts but I just find the cutesy avatars from young males to be sickening and I fear for the future of masculinity.

Yeah, you'll be a brony in 10 seconds flat. Most of us started out at a stage like this.

Protip for the future: Do some research before you barge into a fan thread and insinuate that the topic in question is childish and girly when you have no flipping idea what it actually is.

You could have at least started with some of the links in the opening post. That's what they're there for.

There is a lot of entertainment value for even advlts to be found in MLP:FiM and every episode is packed with a meaningful lesson which is quite normal for shows intended for children but can be good reminders of those who are actually supposed to exemplify the positive traits portrayed in those episodes. The advlts, that is.

There are many different reasons people watch MLP:FiM, a common theme is that people find the show to be heart-warming yet funny much like many cartoon shows used to be before cartoons such as "Total Drama" started popping up more frequently than real quality shows. But that in no way means the series is just emulating what came before it, it's full of new ideas and obviously the animations are really good which is another thing people admire about the show.

I think it's important to note that there is one thing you are forgetting when you throw out your "age regression" insults. This show was not only intended for children but also for the caretakers who would watch the cartoon with said children. And that the people who create the show are themselves advlts and are thus fully capable of creating content that can entertain advlt audiences just as well as younger ones.

Uh huh.

I've also met those who are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who are much more immature than I am in my worst of days.

Fair enough. Here's my Protip: Keep your fangasm threads in forums where they belong and you won't have confused readers wandering in. Looks like a Mod agrees with this sentiment since this got moved out of SKYRIM general discussion where I first found it.

Wasn't when I found it, maybe the forums are having issues. That's the only reason I came in at all because I was wondering why this stuff was in General Discussion. I never go to Community Discussion. So never mind then, I'll leave you to your corner of the forums to talk about ponies. It just irritated me to see it in General but I guess that was some weird bug / glitch so my apologies.

Yeah it's some glitch, as this thread has only been in the community section, not Skyrim general.

On the subject of maturity, http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/12/game-silent-ponyville-christmas-special.html. I've never played the originals, but ponies is the best place to start.

Obviously that's a glitch because this thread has always been here.
Even if you have seen it in the Skyrim forum, why would you click on the thread that you think is for little girls?

Not trying to be rude or anything, btw.

I'd suggest you do watch it. Honestly, at first I couldn't see the appeal either. Then I was proved spectacularly wrong- it took just two episodes to convert me.

It's lovely and colourful, easy to watch and carries a positive message about love and tolerance. Such a refreshing change from the violence and dark humour found on mainstream TV nowadays.
It's harmless fun, is all. I wouldn't judge you if you choose to watch horror movies, so I expect the same amount of respect for choosing to watch a cute cartoon. If you don't like it then fine. You have no need to keep contributing to this thread.
