You are correct, it was the mad god.

"When Sheogorath rebelled against the Tribunal, he tricked the moon Baar Dau into forsaking its appointed path through Oblivion. The Mad Star inspired the moon to hurl itself upon Vivec's new city, which Sheogorath claimed was built in mockery of the heavens. When Vivec learned of Sheogorath's scheme, he froze the rogue moon in the sky with a single gesture and the grace of his countenance. Overwhelmed by the courage and daring of Vivec, the moon Baar Dau swore itself to eternal service of the Tribunal and all its works. Thus the moon now stands guard over the palace, and serves as a citadel for the Temple's Ordinators"

Either way the Nerevarine is an idiot.

The Nerevarine is selfish.
I doubt doubt his intellect, but certainly his motivations and priorities are a little skewed.
I mean, his primary reason for doing what he did is because he found out (not even remembered, but dicovered) that the Tribunal screwed him in a past life and decided to pay them back.
To Oblivion with anyone else who got in the way.

I was kind of hoping it'd still float along after he was dead. I mean it didn't fall down immediately..

No one is looking for morality, furry.
...Buh?

Morality? Where did this come from?

It was a direct reply to the thread. I have no Idea how Morality plays into one's Lizard Loving.

True. looking for morality in gaming is like looking for a wife in a brothel."

I looked at this part: "True. looking for morality in gaming is like looking for a wife in a brothel." of your sig and thought you were weighing in on the Nerevarine discussion. Forgot we were in a Lizard-love thread.

Oh, right. Hurp.

I forgot that was there.

As for the Nerevarine, he/She was a tool of Transition. He probably thought he was a BAMF for getting rid of the Blight and casting down Almsivi, but then he buggered off to Akavir before the Moon came crashing down.

Wait... are lizard people considered attractive to furries? They don't have fur.

Are people who are exclusively attracted to lizards ashamed to be associated with furries?

Oh man, I'm opening Pandora's box here.

I don't feel he ever really gave a damn about Vvanderfell,at all.
When he defeated Dagoth Ur he was pretty much just saving his own sorry hide, and the world as consequence.

He was no fool, he knew that Vivec's powers were growing weak and that the moon would eventuallly fall and destroy the island , as you already mentioned. Vivec warned him so.
When he felt that things were going to get heated, he pretty much just packed it up and left for Akavir, never to be heard from again, leaving the Dunmer to fend for themselves in the process, with a weakened god and that constant threat hovering above the land.

So much for a hero. He's one selfish bugger.

Vivec was the true hero of Vvanderfell imo, he chose to stay and die alongside his people over running away like a coward.

Marsh-brothers unite! I love arognians and always start as a arg theif or assassin. Both their racails and looks are sweet. Especially so in skyrim with the awesome visual customizations options. I'm a svcker for the water breathing aspect. For some reason I think it's awesome to swim around under the surface with no worries. I do wish there were more reasons to go underwater, but I suppose that can be a pain for those other races...

Morrowind was just basically a come-uppance for the dunmer as they learned their lesson. All false gods destroyed, no more magical source of power, etc. Then later Vvardenfell is obliterated along with most of morrowind, and what's left over is taken over by former slaves.

Ah, karma.

Naw, according to the lore I believe he, also, "mysterious disappeared."

It was largely assumed that he was captured by the Daedra as some sort of trophy for Mehrunes Dagon.
He was in Vivec city at the time of the invasion, and disappeared amidst the chaos when he'd never even left his palace.

It said he disappeared. It's not clear whether it's canonical he was killed by the Nerevarine, as Azura suggests to him at the end of Tribunal if I remember right, or he was taken by the hordes of oblivion, or he just vanished.

The important part and end result no matter what: He no longer exists, lost all his power, and hence the destruction of most of morrowind.

If he was a hero, that moon would be floating along in an ocean, rather than being suspended mid-air waiting to smash Vvardenfel.

And then seeing them end up in a Nordic Slum.

It's like a total 180. I feel sorry for the guys this time around...

He couldn't.

All he could do was just sort of like freeze it in time, perfectly still... As soon as the magic holding it in place no longer did so, it just came crashing down at it's original speed, which must have been, really really fast.

Which is why the devastation was so great.
