I don't think those houses would fit anywhere, but aesthetic integrity still sounds like a bioware excuse.
I'd respect someone more who went "The reason we don't add these houses is because they're ugly as [censored]." rather then "aesthetic integrity".

Theres lots of people who build their own homes and design them to the architecture of the location they're in, so no. If I was in Japan, I'd build myself an authentic Japanese house. When in Rome...
This is pretty much how I view it. If this was Morrowind, and I was a non-Dunmer, I wouldn't expect to be able to build or purchase anything but a "Dunmer-style" home there. I'd at least try to make some effort to assimilate into the local culture instead of being all pretentious and stubbornly sticking out like a sore thumb. It would be like a big middle-finger to Dunmer culture.

Update: http://www.elderscrolls.com/community/skyrim-team-diary-6-hearthfire/

Judging by the trailer and by the new screenshots released, the Nordic style will be the only one available. Still hope not though.

I like the half built look might leave my home at that, it just needs one great big rubbish pile to finish the look.

iZsoul I'm pretty sure your just going to get Nordic.

Yeah, I can't imagine a Nordic style home in Morrowind. :ermm:

Yeah, I already posted this a few days ago. At different points in the trailer, you can see the same house being built in the forest, the swamps and the mountains. Its only one architecture style. Not a surprise.

All I want is something like..

http://images.frontdoor.com/FDOOR/articles/Architecture-Images/Victorian.jpg
http://www.dirjournal.com/info/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/victorian2.jpg
http://owlsintowels.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/queen-anne-arch-eureka.jpg%3Fw%3D500%26h%3D410
Those houses are cool, but late 19th century American architecture would be a little strange in Tamriel. Breton buildings would look more like http://www.eg.bucknell.edu/~hyde/England2004/Images3/IMG_3821Copying.jpg.

Still, I wish there were more options, but it doesn't look like that's going to be the case.

Big words scare me, too.

Those houses would look fine in another setting. They'd look ridiculous in Skyrim. They'd ruin the aesthetic (look it up if you're having trouble with the words).

does this matter? really?

as soon as its released someone will mod it and you'll get whatever style house you want......thats the point of what beth does. they give you a few options then the players really make it their own with mods.

What if he doesnt have a pc? Not that I agree with him, but still, pc gamers assume too much that everyone else has mods, and you know how that old saying goes about assumptions...

The context just isn't the same. Bioware was referring to an ending. This is referring to in game design. Its not the same thing. Side note: lol I guess you must respect me a lot then, because I think those houses look like skeever poop with diamonds in it. Never liked fancy houses like that. Glad they're not in skyrim.

Its in Skyrim.
Skyrim is the land of the Nords.
Im not gonna go to Boston and build an African Mud Hut.
Im not gonna go to Hong Kong and build an Iglu.
You'll get Breton buildings when you go to High Rock, okay?

As for a more realistic approach, I wonder what TYPE of Nord architecture there will be. Riften, Whiterun (obv), Windhelm, Solitude ect

Yes. Let's assume that every single person plays on PC.

Ever noticed that mosques in other countries often don't look like mosques in the Middle East?

Even religious buildings tend to conform to the architecture of their region.

Thats a mosque, not a house. Difference. Besides, they have mosques in China that look completely asian and not at all like the other known mosques at all.

But you are in Skyrim, yes?

I'd love other architecture designs, but we are in Skyrim, where Nordic is the most common architecture style.
Most common sure.
But everything is oozing with Nord culture while that is a plus since we are in Skyrim but there is no hint of other influences other than the copy pasted orc strongholds.

I wish we could have several fiffwrnt style we could choose from and I hole the styles look drastically different. I would like that wo we could get some diversity with the construction in the houses to reflect more distinctive taste.

1. How am I trolling? You're the one insulting people
2. He did not insult you at all
3. I'm not complaining. How am I in extreme distress, and what does that have to do with me buying games and an xbox?

I love the game and I love the idea of this dlc. Show me the post that I was complaining in please. Every time I see you I always say the same thing. Read posts more carefully, and you never do. And if you wanted your post to remain private, dont you think you should've PM 'd the op instead? Hmm?
oh god not you again...i wasnt talking to you at all....you always say read posts more carefully because you're always responding to a reply never meant for you. /prays for ignore function for posts

well it is skyrim, so i imagine any architects you employ will be more inclined to build in that style. I'm just happy about being able to build my own house, brings me back to building a strong hold in morrowind.

all i have to say to the op is that i do agree with dwemer.....i think its reasonable with so many dwemer ruins that we could rebuild one with the abundance of ruins lying around.
