Mass Effect Thread #58

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 3:27 pm

I've been trying to do the mission you get from your British Assistant, about the ex-Cerberus Scientists.
Spoiler
Every damn time, the game is glitching during the fight.  I have one squad mate "repairing" the one gun that wasn't working while Shep and squad mate 2 fend off waves of Cerberus.  The first time every damn thing was dead and the combat music just kept on.  The second attempt, one of the cerberus shuttles just remained in the air - no one dropping, no way to blow it up.  And the combat music just kept on, no enemy in site.  When I try to reload - using the autosave it has just before the battle on the roof starts, it dumps the three characters INTO the scenery, so we can't clip and get out.

Anyone else run into this and have an idea how to fix it? Frustrating as I would like to wrap it up.

Argh - starting to hit a bunch of glitches now. I got an email to meet Miranda in the Citadel sometime after initially catching up with her. Marker on the minimap, but no Miranda. Super frustrating. Derp, figured that one out at least, not a glitch :)

Came across what was supposed to be the original ending choice and Reaper motivation:

Spoiler
Remember the Dark Energy problem blowing up the star in Tali's recruiting mission in ME2? Originally the idea was that using Element Zero causes Dark Energy to build up, and the Reapers would ...reap all space faring civilizations to prevent that Dark Energy build up from destroying the whole universe.

The original ME3 ending choice was to allow Reapers to continue the cycle, or destory them and hope that the current civilizations could come up with a solution to the problem.

Of course, that's just from a random forum on the internet, i can't say if it's true or not  Still, it would've been simpler and made more sense than the current one.

Spoiler
Honestly that kind of ending sounds waaaay too much like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. In that regard you could literally swap out the Anti-Spiral for the reapers.....of course you have to disregard the part where they were also piloting Mechs that were larger than galaxies and were also throwing galaxies around like they were chakrams.

Is there a way to check how you're logged into EA / Origin within the game (on the 360)? I'm pretty sure it just logged me in automatically using my gamertag or something. But when I log into EA on my computer and go to 'my games' it only shows 4 games, and I have many more EA games than those 4. So I'm not sure where my other games are going (including Mass Effect 1 / 2 / 3).

I bought the iPhone game and logged it into Origin (it doesn't show up in my EA account either) but I want to know it will properly tie in with my Mass Effect 3 game before I put any time into playing it.

Holy [censored], the Revenant actually sounds like a machine gun this time :ooo: And the Widow is a damn insta-kill stick too. Think what you will about the ending, but the actual gameplay is the best yet :goodjob:

Though i would have liked if the heavy weapons were still in the game as other than one shot things found in the levels. And Epic Fails Inc. is the enemy a bit too often too for my taste :P

Spoiler
That is Cerberus after the Illusive Man thought it would be a good idea to get rid of all of thier competent personnel :hehe: Well, atleast he kept (or hired?) Kai Leng.

I find myself not even using the few heavy weapons I find unless forced to. This game is certainly far far easier than it's predecessor.

Edit
My Paladin pistol is my heavy weapon.

My Paladin pistol is my heavy weapon.

And so it was for my Vanguard too, much better than the ME2 magnum pistol. My Soldier however uses the Black Widow as it-absolutely-positively-must-not-see-tomorrow weapon :hehe: And Eviscerator with Cryo rounds is just hilarious to use against Assault Troopers at close range

The Prothean Particle beam is essentially the Collector Particle Beam from ME2 with infinite ammo. It might as well be a heavy weapon

I had this too. I found reloading a save worked for me at least. I also didn't use the mounted gun the time it worked for me, I just fought on foot.

I am however, pretty irked that they lied about how you didn't have to play the multiplayer in order to get the "best" possible ending. AND that you have to KEEP playing the multiplayer in order to keep some stats up in order to get the best ending on say another playthrough in six months from now if I choose.
Spoiler
Yea I'm going to replay the entire series now and try for the best possible ending, of course I came pretty close and it was still very dark and depressing. I almost wanted a third option of allowing the Reapers to continue because the cost of winning was almost too much.

A question about the ending.

Spoiler
With the destruction of the Mass Relays is every system cut-off and isolated now or are they still able to travel about the Milky Way with FTL travel?

Well, third time is the charm. I reloaded, and instead of going to the left gun first, I went to the one that is "broken" - on the right first and then did the wave of attacks from there. Manning the gun, I basically just shot the hell out off every drop before they got anywhere. Not sure what Kaidan was bothering to do in all that time.

I'm going to do the Priority Mission with the Quarian next I think - I've been putting it off, hoping my paragon score is high enough. Even without reading any spoilers about it, I could have predicted what kind of decision is going to be made there, so I am expecting a high score in paragon or renegade will allow me to push the decision *I* know I want to do.

Does anyone have a good list of side missions - I have only found sporadic info, and my Journal is so cluttered with little crap that I know is just scanning a planet somewhere, I would really like to clean it up before going too much further.

Yeah, I'd been thinking about that.

Spoiler
The Mass Relays let us pop looooong distances on the galaxy map. But the regular Normandy "fuel" engines let us kick around between nearby systems. At least in the gameplay. So, even if people may not be able to get back to their original far-flung systems from Earth, they should at least be able to spread out and colonize a bit. Maybe. And I'd guess that they might be able to come up with slower, more fuel-efficient drives that could let them (eventually) get a sleeper ship back to Thessia/Palaven/etc.

Anyone else noticed a similarity between Mass Effect's ending and The Fall of Hyperion novel conclusion?

I eastablished this about 2 threads ago....aparently nobody read them....They cannot travel the milkey way they way they used to, or much at all because of how massive it is, let alone how impossible pinpoint traveling without relays would be. And heres the kicker - If you remember ME2, they mentioned that Quarians and Turians cannot eat bacteria from humans/ human related food. And they're stuck on Earth....to starve to death (why Bioware forums hate the endings).

So, I went over to my friend's today to finally get started on ME3 -- again, it's all your fault -- and it turns out he's having trouble getting the damn thing to work.

Earning myself a three day suspension for this place didn't help the waiting.

I hadn't been reading the threads here, to avoid spoilers/etc.

On the biology thing...
Spoiler
I'm forgetting my lore at the moment - do the Quarians have farming and/or hydroponic ships in their fleet? If so - and if they survived the fight - they could probably supply at least some Turian/Quarian-compatible food. And there should be some survival rations on the military ships. But yeah..... in the long term, that is a potential big problem.

Speaking of biology mistakes - one thing that bugs me is that oh-so-fragile Joker, seems to come out of major Normandy crashes without several dozen broken bones.

My squad usually consists of Garrus and Liara/Tali depending on the game. I suppose that I could go all three games with the Garrus/Tali combo though.

So, I unlocked a Javelin with a Spectre Pack in the Multiplayer. Thing shoots through walls and is basically a direct upgrade of the Mantis. Only down side is it has max weight. I can only use the Javelin, and even then I take a 9% cooldown hit.

Why, BioWare? Y U DO DIS?

No way! I brought EDI on pretty much every mission! I loved her. And I actually liked Vega, he was definitely better then ashley.

The thing with Mass Effect 3 that bothered me is that it's more focused on spectacle rather then character. Mass Effect 2 was pretty much all character, and they really made you care about who lived or died. In ME3, you got the cool cinematic levels, but there were only 5 permanent squad members. And even then, the focus isn't really on them all that much.

I suspect that is included only in the DLC? I don't have that. And besides, Revenant and Widow rip trough anything :gun:
