What releases are people looking forward to this year?

We should see new Lunar Aurora and full-length debut from Wrathprayer quite soon.

So far, I am looking forward to:
  • Hour of Penance (They are supposed to make an announcement soon about the album they are supposed to release: soon...)
  • Deeds of Flesh (Keeping my eye out on in, the pre-prod teaser sounded very good)
  • Ulcerate (They are making there Relapse debut for a later 2012 release, IIRC)

I am sure more will pop up on this list as the year goes by. Right now though I am more focused on making music related purchases from albums I don't have, but really want. And equipment to play them! I just ordered a turntable last night, a decent Audio-Technica. I have some vinyls I would love to play such as Majesty and Decay by Immolation and Betwixt and Between by Oakhelm.

New Drudkh album February 26th!!

And on a side note, I've been a little slow updating my album reviews. I've been really busy, but there are a few new ones I put up yesterday.

Yes, Proclamation should also be very soon!

I should also mention Ignivomous and Vassafor. I gather that recording is completed for these two albums, just working on the layouts now.

And then we can speculate about what might be released.... Maybe releases from The Chasm, Inquisition, Weapon, Destroyer 666....

Not my cup 'o tea, but I see a link to bandcamp in the description. Have been browsin' through again on that site and have found some cool stuff. Such as http://graveheart.bandcamp.com/album/return-of-the-curse-of-the-creatures-ghost, who remind me of Revocation. And I also found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJTYYcot5DY a solo project, of death/black/progressive/doom elements. I find it pretty cool. Don't know about you guys. I am trying to expand my metal tastes.
The Hands of Despair one is good.

Great stuff, bought the album. Cheers!

[edit] Also, just got an email saying my copy of the new Alcest shipped.

Yeah, it's pretty great. I also should get to ordering that Alcest album.

Did you guys hear the new Alcest leaked today? Or was it yesterday? Either way, it was one of those two. But I think I'd prefer to wait until its proper release to listen to it.

I also heard it's better than Souvenirs, so that's great news.

EDIT: Also it's not related to metal but I just bought some tickets to an M83 concert in DC (they were also pretty expensive). Gonna be my first concert! Going with a friend as well so should be loads of fund. Any advice for attending concerts to ensure maximum enjoyment?

It didn't exactly leak. Their label posted the songs on Youtube, and Alcest mentioned it on their Facebook, so its official.

I've already got my order in for the clear vinyl

Off the top of my head I'd love a new Nile, Ufomammut, Shrinebuilder, and Triptykon album this year. Also looking forward to new Ulcerate album, as has already been mentioned.

edit: and new Gojira album would be sweet

It is, and about the concert, if there is anyone that is/may annoy you. Stay away from them. Other than that, enjoy the show and have fun!

Bit late but another good bandcamp album: http://disappearingland.bandcamp.com/ Atmospheric sludge, think Cult of Luna. It's decent for what it is.

New Alcest sounds alright, they've never really been my thing though.

Because I never really ever listened to sludge except for Beastwars. (I think that would be stoner/sludge metal). I find Mother to be pretty cool.

And I am with wind on the new Alcest album.

Also, @Theron, new Nile would be awesome.

Wait, Bloodstock this year? I was there!

How about that, I could've called you a [censored] in person rather than over the internet for a change :P

It was ace though, Morbid Angel pretty much stole the whole festival on sunday night.

What releases are people looking forward to this year?

Ahab, Woods of Ypres, Drudkh, Cathedral, Wodensthrone, Napalm Death and Cathedral, off the top of my head. Winterfylleth are supposed to have a new one on the way as well.

Btw for those with an interest in vinyl, they've re-pressed Ashes Against the Grain and The Mantle on double LP; they're both on the Osmose Productions website for 24 euros a pop. Now that I have a job I can afford them both so I put in an order today. Plus, I only need to get All Shall Fall and I'll have every single Immortal album on vinyl. Aren't I cool? :P

Would've been totally worth the 100 odd quid. Though if you saw someone stumbling around blind drunk in a blue Mastodon shirt... That was me.

You ever hear about a band who are described as being something you'd love, but don't check out for whatever reason? For me, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7TzAIHrkVU&feature=related is called http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWRZ0C5Q89M&feature=related

Think a sludgy/hardcoe take on death n'roll and you'd be close. Some bits remind me of Disfear as well.

Might not be the most original brutal death metal band around, but pretty damn dynamic and catchy.

This is one of the few times where I must say, I don't like this one out of the bands you share in the thread.

I am sorry Sadist.

You going next year? Lineup's pretty pants so far but I probably won't have anything else to do.

Always a shame when musicians die in their prime.

I'm listening to the new album right now, and with the themes of death and afterlife, it's haunting.

David Gold was known for handwritting thank you letters for everyone who purchased a Woods of Ypres album directly from his site. So damn sad.
