Metal Thread #2

I'm listening to the new album right now, and with the themes of death and afterlife, it's haunting.

David Gold was known for handwritting thank you letters for everyone who purchased a Woods of Ypres album directly from his site. So damn sad.

Really great bloke yeah, seemed really nice and properly communicated with his fans which is rare to see.

Ordered the new one on limited edition vinyl from the Earache store as soon as it came out. Got the limited to 100 copies version as well, but I'll be good and hold off listening to it 'til it arrives. Done the same with the new Alcest album which is supposed to be excellent... anyone else heard it?

You going next year? Lineup's pretty pants so far but I probably won't have anything else to do.

I'll wait and see what Sonisphere's line up is. If that svcks I'll just go to the steam pile of [censored] that is Latitude.

New Alcest is pretty good. Always been on the fence with the band but I've enjoyed my 3 listens.

I know of them, they have really crazy bass lines. Cool stuff, weird to me, but cool. I probably wouldn't put them on my iPod haha. But I would listen to them off YouTube.

I can get that, but personally, they've been a catch of fresh air. They go a little further than just the typical jazzy lines or borderline technical/brutal-ish progressive death metal.

Oh I agree! They are good, especially bands coming off on the brutal or progressive side of death metal, and just out of that genre period. Earlier today I was scrolling through my iPod. I just kept thinking, wow, I need something to listen too besides Cobalt, Immolation, Ulcerate, Cormorant, etc.. And YouTube is what I use that for. :P

Some pretty cool stuff that is not -core or scene coming from California, almost seems immoral: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iv-dRZNV0AY, some pretty cool death metal.

And cool album artwork. :P

I know Lamb of God isn't generally liked by everyone here, but I like lamb of god and I like quite a lot of the music found in this thread earlier, so I thought I'd point out that LoG's new album Resolution is coming out in two weeks and here's a sample of what's on the way: (remember to put on 1080p) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBtVOmRJEos

There are all songs of the new album already available, but they are terrible quality. Can't wait for Resolution!

You ever hear about a band who are described as being something you'd love, but don't check out for whatever reason? For me, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7TzAIHrkVU&feature=related is called http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWRZ0C5Q89M&feature=related

Think a sludgy/hardcoe take on death n'roll and you'd be close. Some bits remind me of Disfear as well.
That's not bad. For some reason this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL5BrOC55TQ&feature=related reminds me of iron maiden combined with lamb of god. I like it!

Not to into lamb of god however the new Testament album due out I think in April which I am eagerly awaiting features Lamb of God's drummer on all the tracks

Also like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GptMvBrchkw, might be a good album for those into this sort of metal..... obviously not as good as Priest

New blood and new blood, been lurking a bit and iirc even posted one or two posts somewhere in one of these metal threads before. (this is not metal thread #2 lol)

As for that song, the music was good, the singer was good, however I just have an allergy against songs where the lyrics are about songs/music/dancing and such. No idea why. I go all green from it. :o

Cradle of Filth have some good songs and some of their stuff is well crafted, I don't get all the hate. Then again I'm not the biggest black metal person so....

Edit: I like the Skeltor you linked, nice find

They are a good gateway band. I liked them a lot way back. Today I think most of their stuff is boring. I put on a song by them on youtube once in a while for nostalgia and that's it.

I have to wonder why Shub-Niggurath couldn't just end after the first album after hearing that.

Anybody else here love Harvey Milk?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8S75VZIr4s

I've been listening to Courtesy and Good Will Toward Men for ~3 months now and I'm starting wonder if they have any other good albums. So, what is another good Harvey Milk album like Courtesy and Good Will Toward Men?

Also, I want to start listening to Burzum, I'm more interested in Atmospheric or Experimental Black Metal if Burzum made some of those, don't really care for something like Mayhem's work (yes I realize Varg used to be in Mayhem). So, good atmospheric and/or experimental albums by Burzum?

Filosofem
Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Belus (it holds a repetitive atmosphere. Hypnotic riffs, cold vocals, dat bassline)

Those to me hold more of the definition of atmospheric. The early stuff was more raw and in your face, with dark ambient instrumentals scattered about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpgbwuSL9jk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Bm-kdLwBVc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SBfkVkiLMY

and for [censored] and giggles, here's my favorite Burzum instrumental. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDK2ZAGDta0&feature=fvwrel

Noticed you said experimental as well. Well, jeez I'd just pick up every album save his 2 pure ambient works, if that's not your thing.

Det Som Engang Var is probably his most experimental.

Check out the Life...The Best Game In Town album. Its my favorite Harvey Milk album.

Edit: Oh, and I finally got around to listening to the new Last Chance to Reason album Level 2. Oh my god, how have I not listened to these guys before. They are amazing! Its like taking Between the Buried and Me and then throwing in some Cynic.

One of those bands, eh? I guess I'll look into their first and get blown away because I thought what I linked sounded pretty good.

Very Iron Maidenish. (old maiden) I can understand why you don't like LoG if you like this kind of music. I like both.

I've been listening to them a bit lately. It is pretty entry level stuff.. but damn some of it is just awesome. Could be nostalgia playin tricks on me though heheh. I agree though they're great songwriters

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8v_nDap-i8. First song I heard from them waay back in the day and I fell in love. I had no idea music could be dark :0
