Fair enough. It just brings back that nostalgia of sitting down in front of that black box I used to call a TV and watching it early in the morning. Usually while my mum was still sleeping and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Was just on my way here to create this thread because of my recent experiences. Over the holiday season I was lucky enough to be gifted with a nice amount of money( not to mention some leftovers from graduation thanks to keeping my first semester partying rather inexpensive). I upgraded my old GTX 270 and 4 GBs of RAM to a GTX 560 Ti and brough my RAM total up to 12GBs. I also purchased two developer packs of games from Steam, about 70 items for 125 bucks. I purchased the Focus Home Interactive bundle, this one was a risky bet but I mainly bought it because I had always wanted to try out Cities XL and was going to buy Divinity II per recommendation from a thread like this one. The other bundle was the 2K bundle, which included Borderlands and all its DLC, Mafia II and its DLC, Bioshock and Bioshock II, CivIV and DLC, CivV, and a couple others. Overall I got a nice mix of games and was happy with all of my big holiday purchases. I tried a few of the games and its safe to say their were a few stinkers( Sherlock Holmes uggh). However one game that truly blew me away......Mafia II

Mafia II, not only does it look fantastic it also runs very well. The PC port of the game was done to perfection and unlike Saints Row 2, LA Noire,GTA IV etc the game does not have a stuttering issue that many open world driving titles seem to have. The characters are great, the animations are fantastic, and overall the developers paid tremendous attention to detail that is lacking in todays games. Its a bit on the short side so I would not have paid 50-60 dollars for it but at its current price it is a steal.

Now in relation to the above game I have to say......

One of more overrated games would have to be Saints Row 3. So many websites placed it into the GOTY category and I really have no clue why. Sure the game is crazy, over the top fun and every mission feels like a scene from a Jason Statham movie but I feel that is also its downfall. The zany action becomes stagnant because of the way they overuse it. Most games follow a similar arch, start off fighting with sticks and stone move on to lasers and death rays. The reason games follow this? It works. Saints Row 3 lacks the sense of progression that a game like GTA San Andreas, Mafia II or even Saints Row 2 offered. Think of San Andreas, you start off with a wife beater, a pair of jeans, sneakers riding a bike through downtown LA guarded only with your fists. By the end of the game your could be flying a jetpack over the Las Vegas strip, being chased by hoverjets, wearing a 300 dollar suit, dress shoes and a pink afro, while wielding a M16 that you have used enough to have unlimited ammo. I will say that Saints Row is incredibly cinematic and customizable but at times its all to much and does not deserve the praise it is given.

Some other overrated games........
- LA Noire- boring, conceited, poorly done PC port
- Thief- Really do not enjoy this game

Underrated
- Metro 2033- One of the best FPS and it does so without having to include an online component
- STALKER- Under appreciated outside of certain groups
- Warhammer II - Probably my favorite action RTS hybrid. Great use of RPG elements to add playability to a genre that usually has stale campaigns.

you obviously havent played the beasts i have then. deus ex system shock 2 and more.

and the combat could never be natural when an indicator appears on screen TELLING you when to counter. thats definately not natural. in all those other 3rd person hack n slashers there is no indicator, there is a block button, a evade button, swimming, platforming and so on. in god of war n devil may there is no falling damage but you can still fall to your death in many areas. no- batman, as a game, is terrible. its a comic or movie where you press a button and a scene plays out (slight exaggeration)
That last statement is actually a big exaggeration and it is one of the comparisons that piss me off the most, but I'll choose to ignore it. I haven't played Dues Ex and System Shock 2 just like you haven't played a lot of the games I have, this doesn't mean that my opinion is any less valid then your opinion.

In your comment the highlighted section is your opinion, my personal opinion is that Batman Arkham Asylum is a brilliant game and I have no idea why fall damage was brought into this.
 YOU LOVE IT!

Oh, overrated, Zelda. Seriously, I can't understand why people play this, let alone call it GOTY.

agreed. in no way is it a bad game, but the attention it gets should for other, more intelligent and fun games.

I can think of very few games that are both more intelligent and more fun. Either more fun, or more intelligent, but not both.

Final Fantasy XIII is the most overrated game ever.
Unnecessary rant, not even a rant.
Spoiler

I absolutely hate final fantasy XIII. I've went on rants before and I'd rather not get into another one again. The story is terrible. The characters are terrible. The battle system plays itself. The game plays itself. It's a movie. It doesn't let you progress your characters your way, it has a nice tree that you must follow for every job you can pick, which is only open to you on the third disk 180 hours into the game. The game plays itself.
The most underrated game? I suppose the first three dragon quests weren't that bad, and I know hardly anyone whos played them.

LA Noire is one of the most underrated. Yeah, the game has faults, but it is a really new and unique take on the adventure genre, and kudos to Team Bondi for taking a risk and making such a unique game.

Overrated, probably BF3. Better than Cod, sure, but it isn't as good as some other FPSs in my opinion.

May I enquire something, Your Highness? If you consider your opinion more valuable than others and therefore think you are superior you should start to use capitals at the beginning of sentences.

Regardless, your opinion is no more valid or superior than anyone else's. And to say so makes people think that you think you are superior, also, ho do you know whether or not you have played more hours of games than a person you have never met?

Can we get back on topic please, discussion is fine but calling each others inferiority complexes out is just useless banter. Besides everyone knows Batman is the best superhero ever invented.

Mirror's Edge is vastly underrated, It's too short, you spend too much time indoors and it's plagued with clipping issues, but it's absolutely gorgeous, and really innovative.
