What is ARMA II?

Look it up on youtube and, if your PC can handle it, buy it.

Wow, I am not even a fan of FPS but that looked interesting and not overboard like BF3/COD is.

Doubt my PC can handle it.

i cant stand batman. the combat is incredibly easy and getting around is mostly automated. i cant be bothered to do another list on why i hate it, but its my most hated game. but its not even a game its a movie where you press a couple of buttons. a bad movie at that.
I've got to agree. There's nothing there.
I think saying the combat was really easy is the wrong way to look at it. The combat in Arkham Asylum (ignoring Batman's abysmal gaming life before this amazing game) is the best physical combat I have ever experienced in a game which is exactly why you believe it is so easy. There is nothing that I have played that does fighting better. This being said you are not going to stick with the game if you don't have any interest in the Batman lore.

From everything I have heard of the previous Batman games, it was like going from Batman and Robin directly to the Dark Knight.

Also I can't really understand why its your most hated game apdenton. There are a lot more repulsive and hateful games then Batman Arkham Asylum. Have you played Techno Kitten Adventure?

That is a true shame, you can test if it can though. There is a free demo available on Steam :)

ARMA II and the original Operation Flashpoint are fantastic games.

Yeah got into ARMA through flashpoint, first 'open world' game I ever played and with the map editor the potential for my imagination to run rampant is just amazing. I've spent many hours messing about in the editor and the single player is really good too. Still it takes a while to get into it cause I still shoot up tree's instead of enemies in battle. :D

Overrated: Morrowind, Skyrim, Bioshock, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Dragon Age.

Underrated: The Darkness, Mario Sunshine, Dark Souls, Silent Hill (it's popular but it's got the "underground'ish" feeling), Battlefield 3.

Probably tons of more games to list, but these just comes to mind. I like many of the games above, no matter if they're listed as over or underrated.

The fun for me was in the mods. I remember hunting humans as a predator on a downloaded jungle map in OFP. Those were the days.

no block button, hammer one button to attack, a indicator appears on screen telling you to counter attack, grappling hook is auto aim, jumping is mostly automated, attacking from above is automated.... its hardly a game. the only thing you do yourself is those silly riddler puzzles and the remote controlled batarang. cant stand it. its near impossible to even die. its not fair it sells well simply because its batman. ok there is worse games out there, but it grinds my gears that masterpieces like system shock 2 dont sell that well. everyone goes mad for batman but not ss2.

how can you prefer the combat of batman over, say god of war, dark souls, onimusha dawn of dreams or devil may cry?

I quite enjoyed the Batman games despite them being inherently easy. I probably liked them so much because the characters felt more true to the 90s cartoon that I consider superiorto the crap that Hollywood has been shoving down our throats these past few years.

which is the wrong reason to enjoy it imo. it should be a good game as well as true to batman.

i dont like the dark night either, it suffers from bad combat too, whenever there is an action scene the camera is shaking all over the place! you can hardly see a thing. the chinese do action scenes way better. never crappy camera shake to hide the fact that they cant choreograph and act out a decent fight scene.

Fair enough. It just brings back that nostalgia of sitting down in front of that black box I used to call a TV and watching it early in the morning. Usually while my mum was still sleeping and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

nah its cool i understand, but with all the simplified games out today batman really puts the icing on the cake, especially when everyone goes mad for it and it wins awards, it will only encourage more simplified and easy games. oh and to add more to why me no like- fall in water batman auto swims out, about to fall to your death, batman spreads his wings and saves you. sigh

Yeah that did annoy me. In the show Batmans weaknesses were often shown and exploited, it was always made clear to the viewers that no matter how strong or fast Batman was he was still human. But in AA and AC he is almost indestructible. That was frustrating :/

If games keep getting simple we'll eventually get back to Tetris, Pacman and Pong territory which is not really a bad thing. After that people will want more complex games. Games are aimed at the mass market after all so what people want people get.

im just talking about from a gameplay perspective. you should have to use the glide button or grap hook (with optional manual aim) to save yourself. and you should be able to swim in water and drown if under too long. it should be up to the players skill/difficulty setting whether you die or not, not the game.

I agree with this post, especially in the underrated category. EU3 is almost all gameplay, and doesn't care about graphics. Love that if the game has such good mechanics (even though there will always be bugs in such a complex system).

God of War 3 almost is enough of a reason for me to buy a PS3, but while the combat is amazingly fun and brutal in those games I did prefer Batman Arkham Asylum's fighting mechanics more. It's not as easy to say that there isn't a block button or there's only one attack button because fighting in game is all about it feeling natural and AA did that better then any other game I have played, in my personal opinion. It wasn't just the combat that won me over, it was also the feel of the environment, the sneaking, intelligence of the design.

I'm not saying it's my favourite game ever(GTA IV) or even my favourite superhero game(Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction), but I do personally recognize it as a very good game.

you obviously havent played the beasts i have then. deus ex system shock 2 and more.

and the combat could never be natural when an indicator appears on screen TELLING you when to counter. thats definately not natural. in all those other 3rd person hack n slashers there is no indicator, there is a block button, a evade button, swimming, platforming and so on. in god of war n devil may there is no falling damage but you can still fall to your death in many areas. no- batman, as a game, is terrible. its a comic or movie where you press a button and a scene plays out (slight exaggeration)

agreed. in no way is it a bad game, but the attention it gets should for other, more intelligent and fun games.
