Most ridiculous outfit in Skyrim?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 5:45 am

The Forsworn outfits are totally ridiculous. I laughed the first time I saw the Forsworn bikini girls.

The best outfits are the Thalmor robes... pure awesomeness.

True... I love the feather-like look of their golden armor.

Why bad though? I would have said that women might actually find it more comfortable to have a briastplate that actually fit their curves, but in truth that would likely only be necessary for the bustiest women. Soldiers wore padded clothing beneath all forms of armor, whether plate or mail or what have you, so really they wouldn't need special accomodation for the boobs.

That said, the U.S. Army has worked on reshaping the hard plate that goes in body armor to better accomodate women's figure. It might not make much difference for smaller-chested women, but some women do apparently find the body armor uncomfortable in the chest. There's only a kevlar pad, the cloth of the plate carrier itself, and their shirt beneath the hard plate, so it's not as well padded as what a knight in 1066 might have worn beneath his mail shirt or briastplate.

Probably because any blow that strikes the insides of the briasts will be deflected into the center of the chest, causing more damage. As opposed to glancing it away, causing less damage.

By ridiculus outfit I assume you mean out of place and jarring?

Dragonplate. The helm is just so out of place with the rest of it. It just looks bad and it isn't even the same color as the bones of the dragons.

I also imagine most women in skyrim would be extremely flat chested, since the wealthy where the only ones that wouldn't be extremely underweight.

Um, why? Is food in short supply, or expensive?
How do you come to that conclusion?
Skyrim isn't historical Scandinavia, its a magical realm on a planet called Nirn. Hard to make any conclusion about things like nutrition there.

Given the evidence, we are forced to conclude that food is abundant (though not stored in large reserves), nutrition excellent, disease uncommon, birth control quite effective, and infant mortality very low. Alchemy almost certainly helps with the last three (maybe 4) there.

Luckily, none of Skyrim's armors look as bad as US digital camouflage.

Personally, I think most of the armor looks a bit over the top. I currently have my follower Jordis decked out in ebony armor and she looks like something out of an action movie LOL

A lot of the common clothing NPCs wear, because the textures look like they're 64x64 res.

Of all the things to cut down on detail, they pick clothing, and that's ridiculous.

Daedric Armour - You need not just ebony for it but friggin Daedric Hearts. The way it looks is great although a bit overdone in the "evil overlord department" but it's value is destroyed by the fact that you can loot or buy it from anywhere once you dinged a certain level. Not to mention crafting it. I mean seriously... Just how many Daedra invade Skyrim at a daily basis that there's so much Daedric Armour just lying around, waiting to be picked up?

Dragon Scale/Bone Armour - You're walking around with a pile of rotting dragon skin and bones stuck on you. It not only sounds unsanitary but seriously dangerous as well due to all the little bone spikes piercing through your flesh by accident. I can't really imagine moving and fighting in them either. It weighs you down more than metal (judging from the bone/skin material weight) and it's a lot harder to tailor it to your body to avoid too suffocating or too loose fit.

You can buy it from vendors? What level does it become common at? I have two characters above lvl 48(lvls 54 & 53) which is the point where daedric armor is supposed to show up on loot lists, but I haven't seen a single piece on a vendor yet.

I don't like the look of the dragonbone/scale armors either, but I'd still like to remind you that there are perfectly good methods for cleaning and preserving leather and bone for use in armor. Or do you figure fur, leather and hide armors are made of plastic?

You're covered in dragon bone, leather, and scales. What do you think fur and leather and hide armor is made out of? It's not gonna rot.

I had seen Daedric equipment at blacksmith shops on lvl 63 though it could have appeared even sooner, I didn't specifically look for it as my Hunter was only going for Light armour.

Fur and leather armour seem okay due to the fact that they were made from "natural" material: skin and pelt of deers, wolves, bears or even chaurus although still unsanitory. Looking at Skyrim's advancement level I'm not sure they know or even care about disinfection and proper preservation. I have skinned animals IRL before and to be honest I can't imagine the process without my trusty formaldehyde and methanol mixture. The middle ages must have svcked so hard. Anyways, the mentioned pieces all seem realistic.

The dragon one however... it just feels wrong. You don't make an outfit, especially not an armour, by sewing rock hard skin (a skin allegedly so strong mortal weapons have little effect on it) and even heavier bones together. It's clunky and difficult to move in. If the bones would have been used only as a supporter (like a spine for the chest piece) I could call it feasible. But whole layers of bone glued on top of the spiky skin? Meh.

As far as dragon armor go, I think it's a safe bet that only select bits of the whole skin and bones are used - and probably cut and shaped. I haven't checked the numbers, but it they're anywhere close to the other armors you're goign to need bits from several whole dragons to make one single set. That means you're extremely picky on what you're using.

A real life anology would be crocodile leather - you're discarding a lot of the croc's hide.

I see. I guess I just haven't gotten to high enough lvl to see it then.

Considering that brains, urine and dung have been used at one time or other for tanning leather, the middle ages would've certainly stank, if not svcked.

Dragon skin doesn't seem that hard in the game, since ordinary arrows and apparently mudcrab pincers too can pierce it. But yeah, the dragon armors look silly.

I love dragonscale (especially if you accessorise with a natty matching katana), but really cannot stand the look of dragonbone armour.

Whenever I play Skyrim from now on I'll be feeling that stench, unable to get such information out of my mind. The horrors... :stare:

I meant more from a lore perspective. Tribal communities that display their fitness/virility/fertility via physical appearance pretty much almost always have a tit (hah) for tat philosophy. Men would show off their powerful thighs, chest and arms; and women, their briasts, waist and thighs. This isn't so with the Forsworn males. All that the armour prominently displays is their arms. It doesn't make sense.

You make the ritual of courtship sound so beastly and animalistic. It wasn't based on looks. It was based on who the dominant figure was.
