Never thought I would yearn for Oblivion

I am not gonna flame you, I am just going to feel sorry for you, because your clearly not experiencing what the rest of us are and its sad. Nevermind, you go back to Morrowind.

Have a good life

By the way, they had earlier promised that the PC would have its own UI, would have DirectX 11 support, and would have a construction set. Not a single one of these things was given to us on the day of release. That's on Bethesda for flat out lying to us. It's not on us for "being too picky."

Directx11 support exists, but just the optimizations. That's okay, in my book. The CS will come. It just needs fixing. Again, I would rather wait a bit and get a good CS as a buggy one.

I always hated that Oblivion had a spell for just about everything. Waterwalking? afraid to get your robe wet? Open lock? As a mage you have to rely on your companions/followers and their lockpicking skill.

I really like the levelling system, you are what you eat (sort to speak).

You like the idea of becoming completely useless in combat if you lvlup support skills faster then combat ones? It's a TES after all NOT diablo-style hack'n'slash.
Or maybe you like the idea of mobs becoming stronger and stronger each level when you already reached your maximum damage output 10 levels ago, like it was in Oblivion?
I really don't get it... and I won't commend on your opinion of how magic should look like (I prefer Morrowind with levitation spells etc. What it lacked was magic regen)

Totally agree with OP about magic system. I bet it'll get reworked as soon as the CS comes out, since it really lacks lot of things currently.

The main problem I think people are having with Skyrim is that it's not

Yes the UI svcks......... Actually I'd go further and say its an abomination, but then I'm an elitist PC owner, not a console molestor

Yes the skills system is somewhat lacking in skills, and the perks system is different ........... I have grown unwillingly accustomed to them.

The character creator isnt up to the standard of creating supermodels..... but come on, if you looked like Mila Janovich, you wouldn't be running around looking for gold, gold would be brought to you.

I am one of those strange STRANGE creatures that considers Morrowind AND Fallout 3 to be the finest gamesas games ever, but i'll let you in on a little secret :-

Neither of them made me go "Bloody Hell its a Spiky Flame Belching Homicidal Dragon!!!!"

I've played the openening sequence about twenty times now just for the fire breathing dragon.

Say what you want about the game, and people will, the graphics are stunning, the game play (for me at least) is addictive, and theres a decent system of enchanting, alchemy and crafting (IMO better even than MW and Ob)

How would I (If I even knew where to start) improve the game?

NEW UI for the PC boys - its godawful... No seriously it is.
Reintroduce missing skills - those of us wih OCD like a myriad of skills
Tweak the character builder - its fugly but functional

There are a number of other small things that grip my thungas, but "Bloody Hell its a Spiky Flame Belching Homicidal Dragon!!!!"

All in all the boys and girls at Bethesda have created a eyewarteringly beautiful game that is going to cut down on my available sleep time

Skyrim is far better than oblivion. I pretty much throw up when thinking about playing oblivion with no mods..*shivers*. My play with skyrim is limited to my friend's 360 though since I have no access to my pc so my opinion on the ui is not very valid . ...but from what I've seen even comparing the two is crazy. I've noted many things I want to see change, yet I'm having a huge amount of fun without mods and after oblivion and fallout that's saying something.

Yes u can find ur first set of torches in embershard mine right after escaping from helgen
They are on the walls and u can take them off the walls...its also a good tactic for sneak characters

Skyrim trumps Oblivion in every way.

Hell, I'll even go so far as to say that it's the best Elder Scrolls game. Period.

I'm pretty sure the fallout 3 construction set wasn't available on the day of release either. And it says in the Skyrium mods forum that they are working on getting it out.

Isn't that enough?? We should be grateful that they release one at all!

Edit:

only thing i miss from oblivion is when i hoard all of my junk into a chest.. its not organized by what type of item it is.. and i have to sift through it..

Yes...I'm hoping when I decorate my house fully (it's a dark spider web infested place at the moment) there are more chests so I can put different items in different chests so solve this problem!

They've been dropping too many things since Morrowind and Oblivion. The appeal of TES is to make the character you want and play the game how you see fit. It does matter if some of those skills, spells or items are 'useless' or 'confusing', them merely being there as an option is much more preferable than being limited in a game whose main appeal is freedom.
I do think Skyrim is a step above Oblivion, though.

Skyrim is the best console version of an Elder Scrolls game to date so it beats out the other games.

I'm loving this game. Like, playing it to death loving it. Last night I fell asleep playing it haha. As pretty much my only complaint, I will agree the leveling system is a bit off.

When I first started playing I was (and still am!) very scared of going into the caves and dungeons for fear of being in a higher level area and dying. I spent a lot of time walking from place to place and selling things and unlocking things but not going into many caves so my combat was a bit limited but I was still leveling up. I feel like I'm paying for it now as I'm really struggling with some enemies I don't think I should be. I dropped the difficulty level so I could start enjoying playing more without dying and reloading so often, and I'm holding off leveling as long as possible to improve my skills without unleashing crazy hard enemies on myself.

I could just be playing it wrong though, as I am kind of a 'tard. Any advice or corrections would be appreciated haha.

Also, does anybody find Dragon Priests harder than Dragons? Holy balls, I spent 2 minutess fighting a dragon and then about half an hour dodging and weaving against its Priest. Just me or....?

To be honest, yeah there are things they could have done better. I miss speed for one. Of it I am getting faster I haven't noticed. Spell crafting for sure. I miss spears, I miss getting a wagon (Daggerfall) and a ship (Daggerfall) and a whole lot of other things. But it is still a great game. I LOVE it. It's glitchy as hell on the PC right now, what with npcs warping from one location to another, shouts not working sometimes, the same old exploding stuff havoc bug. I've had to reload after broken quests that just hung . . . but I have faith that most of that will get ironed out.

UI - Terrible. I mean even Oblivion's UI was better than this garbage that is forced on us because of all the kiddies playing this on Xbox/PS3

I am so sick to death of reading this.

I play on the PC with a 360 controller. Do you really think the unfortunate UI is any better for a console player? Like somehow awkward menus, bad maps and difficult to navigate lists aren't awkward and bad when you are playing on the 360 because they are suddenly NOT awkward? Well, it's not true. Using a controller doesn't change the fact that the menus are terrible. Oh, and not only do the favorites handling/menus svck for everyone because they are so difficult, but the 360 players only have two hot keys. Two! :sadvaultboy:

(this comment is not an invitation to get into why I should be using a keyboard and mouse so don't bother telling me to)

I think Skyrim is better than Oblivion (except the fights.Sorry, the spell system of OB was the best of TES.You could block with your sword and cast a spell in an opening. In Skyrim I just look at my flaming hand and need to change equipment if I needed a block.Though if I could block spontaneously it would give a much more seamless combat experience.)

But Morrowind was once in a lifetime thing.

By adding such detail in the game world they effectively created a better roleplaying game....in fact making it evolve into something more. By getting rid of some features they showed that those features would be insignificant in a game like this. Take away spell crafting, but give me much, much better spell casting? Any day. Take away armor repairs, but add improving items and creating them? Easily one of the best ideas ever. Repairing really svcked in Oblivion, and it was almost as bad in morrowind. Having a weapon break 1/3 through a long dungeon was annoying and just a negative all around. Im more satisfied now with a more fleshed out world around me than i would be with water walking and levitating.

In Morrowind, I considered replaying the whole Legion/Fighter's Guild quests specifically as a legionary Spearman. It's something I'm tempted to do to this day. The combination of weapon types, faction types, and lore all made this seem like an exciting and fun thing to do.

Why is everyone complaining about the UI? You even remember Oblivion's UI? Every item in Oblivion's UI would almost fill the entire screen with its enormous size, it was certainly meant for a console to be played on your TV. This one looks way better, much more clear and streamlined.

The amount of detail is just astonishing. This game is way better than Oblivion ever was in every single way, the only thing I don't like so far is that we still have to lockpick chests as a warrior (I don't know about the mage). This ruins role-playing a bit.

Only thing I have missed from Oblivion is the detailed Journal diary and that was only after I did the quest with Moira in it because I didn't know what the heck was going on during it.

Obviously there are haters and lovers and anything in between. I'm personally a lover of Skyrim, I didn't hate Oblivion and had my fun with it but I found myself playing Morrowind on my PC again instead of playing Oblivion on my 360. Not because I missed modding or anything, I never even used mods in Morrowind except for a custom house, but I just couldn't get the atmosphere. The only atmosphere I had were some moments in the DB and Shivering Isles.

To me Skyrim really feels like the spiritual successor of Morrowind, the system might have changed a lot and I do have some small gripes with how magic works on higher levels and missing spells but nothing can beat the feeling of exploring again in a country with diverse dungeons and secrets waiting in forests, Dwemer ruins, tombs and you name it. Add to that the random dragon battles and I again feel like my character is actually doing something instead of playing fetch for the illegal son of the Emperor.
Most of the things I thought were missing were included in the perks system. I don't even miss the attributes and classes which really freaked me out when I heard of it.

But you could at least use a mouse in Oblivion. XD Though the Skyrim UI looks really cool.Just "looks"

And mages have to pick locks as well.

So here's my main problem with this game...

When Oblivion came out after Morrowind, they ditched a bunch of weapon types, skills, spell effects, faction choice (in the sense that in Oblivion, you could be everything & do everything on 1 toon) etc etc. I raged super hard for a long time. The stupid autoleveling system where you have bandits running around in armor & weapons worth 2000g - 3000g EACH was ridiculous beyond imagining.

When Skyrim was announced I actually thought that we would perhaps see a return to the glory days of Morrowind's style of atmosphere & gameplay...but after 3 days with the game so far, this is what I see:

Skills dropped EVEN more...1 handed/2 handed? Are you kidding me?
Spells - gone. Open Locks? Absorb Health? Feather? Water Walking? How does removing Water Walking from the game streamline the experience for the average player?
Spellcrafting - removed
Spells - Don't scale with player level
Leveling System - Broken beyond belief. I mean...the game tells me to unlock something...I do it...and I gain a level? I sell trash to a merchant and I gain 3 levels of Speechcraft...which levels me up? Which moron came up with this idea? I mean, why even have levels at all?

UI - Terrible. I mean even Oblivion's UI was better than this garbage that is forced on us because of all the kiddies playing this on Xbox/PS3

To be fair, the following things are done well:

1) Atmosphere/graphics
2) Voice Acting
3) ???

Does anyone know when the construction set will be made available to modders or if it already is? Because this game needs a new UI, overhauled magic, implementation of a spell crafting system and for the love of god, nerfs to enchantment/smithing to bring some semblance of sense & balance to the gameplay.

Bring on the flames [censored]. :flamethrower:
2 words: move on.

Sick of all these people complaining. You think your whiny post will influence Bethesda to make a game tailored to your ostensibly ridiculous needs? Morrowind and oblivion are in the past. Get over it. Skyrim is miles ahead of oblivion... Skyrim is what Oblivion should have been.
