Patch 1.2 Unofficial Thread #5

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 2:21 pm

Just adding my dissappointment.

The 1.2 patch brought a noticeable drop in frame rates for me. It was fine before, but now my computer just freezes for a second or two during most battles.

Thought the patch had fixed my outside loading stutters - seemed to have eliminated them around Whiterun, but by the time I got back to Solitude they were back again :(

I'm getting upto 10sec freezes every 10/15 min or so when exploring the outside world. I guess this 'pause' is caused by the game loading in new exterior cells, but is there anyway to minimise them at all? No freezes inside towns or dungeons.

My specs:

Athlon 4800, 9800GT, 3GB , XP.

Will installing the LAA patch make any difference? (or is that just for systems with 4GB+ ?)

By sharp intellect, I have effectively dodged all problems caused by this new patch that has rectified so little. Merely by backing up my tesv.exe before I modified it with the LAA (4GB) patch, I was able to restore my game to its launch functionality.

I had presumed that Bethesda would continue serving low-spec users, so after my obvious assumptions on the new patch were confirmed via Google, I restored my backup of 1.1's tesv.exe before ever launching the game. I cleverly set the executable to read-only and disabled automatic updates in Steam properties. It makes me chuckle that people are claiming you are required to be in offline mode to prevent Steam from patching.

However, this does not change the fact that Bethesda has blundered on many levels for its more feeble-minded PC players with bad PC practices. For despite my razor wit and copious knowledge, I am a humble man who does not turn a blind eye to those so obviously inferior. Bethesda cannot possibly expect its entire fanbase to be on my level of cunning, so it must take responsibility to hold than hands of its poor, pathetic following.

Peons and peasants of the Bethesda forum, know that I, Reacon, am on your side. We must notify Bethesda of their failure through a gargantuan volume of complaints, since there aren't a sufficient number akin to myself who actually care to make a difference through an intelligent trading of vernacular with the developers and community managers.

Don't know if anyone has this issue with the new patch or not but in addition to the backwards flying dragons, it appears that the dragons have been leveled down as well. I used to be fighting blood dragons and such now just regular ol' hum drum dragons.

Patch installed and working after 4 hours of gameplay:

Things I did do since the patch:
The last 2-3 stages of the Thieves Guild quest line with no problems, including fully exploring the Dwarven ruins underneath Markath.
Visited Whiterun, Markath, and the Thieves Guild town, crafted/smithing, enchanting.

Things I did not do since the patch:
See, fight, or kill a Dragon

The only problem I noticed:
Residual spell effects, like ice shards in dead bodies, is still a problem.

I have the 4GB Skyrim mod installed and have no CTD's since using it either and no apparent conflicts.

With the latest patch I've got a rather unusual bug. My character has shrunk in first person perspective - in 3rd person he's the correct height when standing next to NPC's. However when I got into a store I'm barely peeking over the counter, when I use my alchemy lab I'm barely as tall as the table. At the same time this bug occurred a problem developed with using sprint mode, so I'm guessing the two are linked. He seems to be unable to sprint for a second or two before starting, or inexplicably slows down mid-sprint (even though there's plenty of stamina left) . With the removal of resistances also introduced in this patch, and the instant CTD every hour or so that was introduced in the steam exe update then the game's not really playable with any sense of enjoyment at the moment.

For me personally I have done a fresh vanilla install then patch to 1.2 0 mods 0 ini tweaks.
Patch does pretty much was is listed in notes for me but...

Dragon flight paths are inconsistent and occasional backwards flying.
Bookshelves in house allowed to me to remove my books then prevent me from adding any. (the "E" options does nothing to a shelf unless it was prior empty)
Elemental resistances are inconsistent or non-existent . (Eg Fire kills Flame Thrall, Lighting-Lightning Thrall, Frost-Frost Thrall)

Same here from what I've seen as well.
The resistances are borked, as well as the bookshelves in player homes. Now I just hope the next patch AT LEAST addresses those two issues.

I've just encountered by first backward flying dragon; and yep, also confirmed that resistances are up the creek - that or they vastly buffed dragon's breath attack damage

Patch made the game unplayable, along with introducing a few CTDs that I had not experienced until now. I was able to revert back to 1.1 thanks to some posts around here where people uploaded older versions of the patched files. It's offline mode for me until this gets resolved. Feel bad for my friend on the PS3 though, he is having a hell of a time...

Were you able to rename an item upon enchanting?

That are 2-3 issues more that need to be addressed for the patch including yours.

1. Dragons flying backwards
2. The resistance thing
3. The bookshelves at your house
4. Perhaps some tweaks for the mouse in-game (add more density to the sensitivity for the mouse)
5. If confirmed also fix the rename an item feature when enchanting an item (I don't know why but I can't do that right now)

Actually yes I renamed four items with no problems at all.

That being said, I occasionally get 'stuck' to the enchanters table for about 15 seconds when I try to leave it, but that's been like it since game release.

You could actually rename an item? I wish I know how to do that, because I haven't figure it out yet.

I experience the same thing for being stuck at the enchanter table between 10-30 second, but I suspect that you can get stuck forever if you don't try to move your mouse.

Yea had also some problems at the start. No working sound, as i tried to start a new game scripted events didn't started. After i tried to delete the ini files, and after requesting them again, the errors where gone. So the dragon is coming, it is making trouble by the Imperial and saving me and what i noticed, that my extremly [censored] up mouse is working smoth and direct like a scalpel now, so that i run past the guy i have to follow (and in the dragon) all time instead nearly loosing him because of the walls i was running into first time. :D

Haven't seen any texture problems also for now.

Only problem what makes the game still nearly unplayable is the still missing creation kit. :flame:
No the game isn't so bad, but i don't get the right feeling by playing a Bethesda rpg without creation/construction kit.

When you say, "you wish you knew how" you don't mean the fact that need to press 'F' after having selected all three aspects of the enchantment do you? I don't mean to insult you if that's not what you meant.

If that is what you meant, you can only rename once you've chosen the item, the enchantment, and the soul gem to use.

Do you not have the option to rename anything or does if give you the option but the 'F' key does not work?

They do have short character limits for renaming things I noticed, other than that it's working fine for me.

For the most part the latest patch is working great for me. Just noticed a couple issues. Seems my natural resistance to frost (Nord) is gone. Frost attacks from mages and dragons about killed me, but before the patch it would barely affect me (Lvl 39 now). Seems my heavy armor perk for not being hindered is gone as well. My character is moving much slower now. At least my dragons aren't flying backwards and I can open locks, lol.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but can this patch fix the annoying glowing eyes bug? Demonstrated in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pr7ld1Gazc

Hi,

I've posted this elsewhere but it may well be more relevant here.

Dragon glitches - not just with 1.2 - seem to form a pattern with me.

Basically a dragon appears, I save (just in case) and proceed to take the dragon down. For me they do have a tendancy to fly off and ignore me but hey, I chase them down. So, I've just had a successful dragon kill. Nice.

If I then RELOAD to when the dragon first appeared I often get...oddness. As best the Dragons behaviour is totally different, i.e. it'll fly off, attack others etc. At worst I get odd things like the dragon gets stuck mid-air (cannot crash) or it begins to fly directly UP out of site before returning. Or even just general flying the wrong way (like the video we've seen but not as extreme) with assiciated animation oddness.

The conclusion I've reached is that upon reloading a game where a dragon has spawned something is missing from said save regarding the Dragon, so it proceeds to be very bugged.

To be clear: Dragon appears, save game, play = usually everything is fine. If I then reload my save to fight the dragon again, it's behaviour is vastly different. Not every time, but a lot of the time.

For the record my main game is still on the day-one v1.1 patch - I've not updated to 1.2. I know this is a v1.2 thread, but there was dragon oddness beforehand if you do the save/load thing when a dragon appears.

Cheers,

Scoob.

I called bethesda support to ask about rolling back the patch. I did tell them "ROLE BACK THE PATCH". the guy did not know what was happening to address issues.

he was politely unable to do %$%#

I have no magic resistance, which means I drink a LOT more potions in fighting dragons and mages. it is annoying. at least it is mostly playable for me.

As of 12:30 EST, Valve is still distributing the patch, as my game updated as soon as I started Steam.

It seems UESP is wrong, not to mention that I can't find any info on UESP that they ever even suggested that Valve had ever pulled the patch, nor any info on the Steam site to suggest that they had pulled the patch.
