Patch 1.2 Unofficial Thread #5

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 12:52 pm

Hey guess what I found bethesda!? When I set my sound to the highest quality 24-bit, 192000 I get a big fat CTD :D thanks for the patch. And no I'm not making that [censored] up... but hey it works at 48000 so you don't have to worry about it. >.>
Please post your soundcard else this info has little to no value for Beth. I personally tried it with 24bit 192Khz on my Asus Xonar D1 and it seemed to work though I did have some random CTDs... but I blame a missing LAA patch or memory leak not the sfx card for these. If my sound settings were to blame I believe it would crash during the intro...

Doh I am with stupid time for bed I guess: You have your soundcard info in your sig ;)

With v1.2, Skyrim won't load past the image of the dragon after the Bethesda initial screen. No 'Continue', 'Load', etc. Simply hangs. Reinstalling this evening from Steam simply reinstalled v1.2. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Skyrim ran flawlessly for me before any fix packs!

BTW, when I followed other suggestions, like reverifying the cache on the steam / Skyrim / properties, it did not find a problem. When I unchecked 'automatic update', the next time I went into the properties notebook, it was back to 'automatically install updates.

I tried going to a backup and copying over the files in the Skyrim program folder, but not in any of the subfolders and trying to play a game from Monday when I made my backup. 'E' and 'Tab' work for vanilla, but not in mods. Any suggestions? Is there anything else from my backup on Monday I should replace?

I'm sad and frustrated, but not angry at the folks at Bethesda. Look at the huge variety of computers it is being run on. Of course there are going to be problems. The number of people playing is staggering!

Yes, I have encountered several dragons near their roosts. I killed em, too. When I first started the game they killed me several times before I got the hang of dealing with them. I have killed about 12 or 14 dragons. No elder or ancient dragons, yet. Just black dragons, frost dragons, and blood dragons. The blood dragons are the nastiest, so far.

I guess I am not sure what you mean by "have fun with that" near dragon roosts.

I was referring to the game-breaking bug that I now have after the 1.2 patch. Before the patch I was about 90 hours in level 48 and had killed maybe 20 dragons without issue. After the patch no matter what dragon I encounter they fly backwards from me and can no longer be killed. Strange that it seems only some people experience this. Dragons also create huge lag now whereas before everything was silky smooth.

ok this is stupid ,before patch absolutely no problem, after the thing im crashing to desktop when i fast travel! and why did they decide to try and stop people useing 4gb patch? ,we wouldn't need to do it if they just enabled 4gb in the game!
When debugging, program address pointers can change, Beth is not obliged to keep in line with the 4gb enabler, it's up to the author of the 4gb enabler to update if he so wishes.

I tried to play skyrim when i got home today and after 30 of restarting skyrim, steam, and windows7 never made it past the splash screen.

about then a friend emailed me warning not to let steam download the new patch or it would break everything.

WTF!

the last patch had issues, but nothing like this.
yesterday i was running with my settings on ultra, today i can't even run on low.

FWIW,

got around patching issue which was a freaking pain,

now cannot use xbox controller (razer onza tournament)

fixes listed in the forums as solutions so do not help me with this problem, cannot do anything in the menu options using the controller, unplayable game

I would use the keypad if you bothered to make a gameplay configuration that didnt make a keyboard mouse combo cluttered and useless

Wow, ran into a master magic caster and yikes they are super zappy now. It does appear something has changed with resists or magic damage.

Not true. I downloaded the 'unpatched' files and backed up my patched ones, then put these into the appropriate directories and let Steam verify my Skyrim files again, it immediately saw 3 files that were incorrect and redownloaded the patch.

Of course, if one were to not have steam verify the game files and just play the game, it may work, until Steam decides to check for updates again.

Putting steam into offline mode is an option, but I like my Steam overlay and friends list, so I'll pass.

The game is playable for me with the new patch so far, just broken bookshelves and magic resistances. Dragons work fine, FPS is good and no crashes either. *shrug*

But how can the magic resistance be playable? It obviously affects mages the most but it screws up the combat/enchanments/who knows what else for everyone. It's like cheating, if you think about it.

Edit: it affects difficulty and opens up a whole can of worms.

My current character is a Khajiit and only has a 10% magic resistance from one of the Alteration perks, and doesn't really use Destruction magic. So other than Flame Atronachs and similar things being vulnerable to enchanted weapons they weren't before... it won't really affect me.

I want it fixed, badly... and I hope we see a hotfix patch in the next day or two. But at least in my case, it doesn't affect me much. I might have to turn the difficulty down from Master for a bit, as I usually drench myself in Resistance potions when fighting mages, which won't work anymore.

EDIT - If I could revert and keep my Steam overlay and everything, I'd do it. The fixes do not outweigh the annoying bugs introduced. I do quite like the fix to the Y sensitivity though.

I am currently considering to download the game from warez and patch up to 1.1

To be honest if Steam and Bethesda keeps this up, I will not continue purchasing their future games.

Patch is most definitely not pulled. Thankfully I was bored at work tonight and was trawling the forums here to find out that 1.2 is a big bust and made back ups before going online to see the patch for myself. I've kept it offline since. I don't like doing that, as I do actually enjoy my FL and have no problem with Steam on the whole, but it was necessary in this case. Also, to point out something that I noticed, and someone else posted in another thread, while you might can set Skyrim to not auto update, the next time you run it, it will change itself back to auto updating. Steam itself is not doing it at least for me, as I exited it, logged back on, and it stayed. But if I launched Skyrim (at least through the launcher, I didn't test if launching through the LAA fix did the same) it toggled it back to auto updating.

In any case, as of only about an hour ago, I logged on Steam to see if the patch was still there and it certainly is. I restored my backups and all, but no the patch has not been pulled.

hmm, I am going to have to try disabling the auto-update in Steam and see if it doesn't switch back if I don't ever launch the Skyrim Launcher (I use the 4GB loader program as well, since it removed all CTDs I was getting with the vanilla game... and still works in 1.2 I might add...)

I'll go try that real quick.

I can't tell for certain whether my DR is affected. Although my equipped armour seems to have some effect on the amount of damage, I'm still taking much more damage than I normally would.

And of course even the reduction of elemental damage with blocking is broken too. Hopefully I can successfully revert back.

Okay, so I started the game with high settings instead of ultra settings and I noticed that my framerate improved a little but not that much. With ultra settings it lagged like hell, even though i know my PC can handle it. Other than that, I am still receiving texture popping all over the place when I enter a city like Windhelm, with people's bodies being see-through and my framerate does suffer while there. I deleted all mods and regenerated my skyrimprefs.ini and even uninstalled and installed the game with my back-up saves. The really big problem for me is the texture popping but I think the game is still playable, although it is very annoying that nothing noticeable has changed for my version of this game.

I found a solution for myself:

I downloaded the 1.1 files from the links other people have provided. I won't repost them as I'm not sure of the rules regarding posting those files on here.

To be safe, I backed up the 1.2 files for now.

I put the 1.1 .exe, .bsa, and .esm files in the proper locations.

I disabled auto-updating in steam.

I ran the game using the 4gb Skyrim.exe I have, that enables Skyrim to recognize 4gb of memory.

Game was back to being unpatched.

Checked steam's settings upon quitting (using the console command, qqq, as I always do, since it's faster) -- still set to "do not update"

We'll see if it auto downloads again. If it does, I can just replace the files again, but this worked for me, I can play again with resistances and working bookshelves until a hotfix comes out. :)

Was playing happily with the LAA patch applied to the original exe. This new patch jacked up my game pretty bad, now unplayable. If I left or right click ANYTHING on my map, it closes so I can't fast travel or remove my marker. Turning quests off or on in the journal has a 99% failure rate and usually closes the journal. Opening the quick slot menu and clicking anything.. yep.. closes the quick slot menu with no choice selected. The new exe won't get past the loading screen without the LAA patch still. But apparently the patch edited "Skyrim - Interface.bsa" also so using the LAA patched original exe gives me all these stupid problems regardless. The game I upgraded my PC for is the one I can't play.. because they fixed it..?
