I have had CTDs since day one, but patch 1.2 ruined the game for me. I continued to play even with the CTDs, just remembering to save frequently. The only problem I ever had pre-1.2 with dragons was one dragon that wouldn't fight me then flew away.

Shortly after patch 1.2, I fought an Elder Dragon at the Boethia shrine. The dragon killed almost all of the NPCs, but I killed it and absorbed its soul. Since then, however, I have encountered two Frost Dragons and one Blood Dragon. I have been unable to kill any of them because they fly backwards away from me and never land. When they do fly forward, they do so at super speed. When they stop, my fps drops to 19-20. They start to fly again, but it's in reverse again. Even if I do lower their health to what should be 0 using destruction magic/arrows, they never fall from the sky, but instead bounce up and down in the sky and my fps drops to 19-20 again.

In addition, it looks like I got the bookshelf glitch, too. I can take the books off the shelf one by one (read, then take) but I cannot put any books on the shelves that already had any books. Add to that the resistances & armor not functioning correctly (for example, Forsworn Briarhearts one-hit killing me when I'm at full health which NEVER happened pre-1.2).

Edit: Forgot to mention, I had not used any mods, and had only made a couple of tweaks to the .ini files in My Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder. I deleted the modified .ini files prior to playing 1.2 for the first time.

Mouse has no vertical movement. Looking side-to-side is fine, but I can't look up or down at all. This is not a sensitivity issue. With the sensitivity maxed out, I still cannot look up or down. Mouse movement in menus is fine.

No mods, no textures, no changes to ini files.

Verified game integrity, downloaded 1 file, did not fix the issue.

Currently reinstalling the game through Steam.

Reinstalling the game through Steam fixed my mouse issue, but the other issues (resists, funky dragons, etc) still persist. Going to try using the 1.1 revert trick as described in this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1299292-pc-fix-to-revert-from-12-back-to-11/

I'll give them a few more days (maybe until Saturday) to announce 1.3 or something before I attempt the revert tricks.

I found a solution for myself:

I downloaded the 1.1 files from the links other people have provided. I won't repost them as I'm not sure of the rules regarding posting those files on here.

To be safe, I backed up the 1.2 files for now.

I put the 1.1 .exe, .bsa, and .esm files in the proper locations.

I disabled auto-updating in steam.

I ran the game using the 4gb Skyrim.exe I have, that enables Skyrim to recognize 4gb of memory.

Game was back to being unpatched.

Checked steam's settings upon quitting (using the console command, qqq, as I always do, since it's faster) -- still set to "do not update"

We'll see if it auto downloads again. If it does, I can just replace the files again, but this worked for me, I can play again with resistances and working bookshelves until a hotfix comes out. :)

Definitely good to know. Just tested it myself, too, and using the LAA launcher seems to keep the game from turning it's Auto Update back on. Why the 'regular' Skyrim launcher is doing changing that setting, I couldn't begin to speculate, but I hope it's rectified soon. ES games have always had a healthy modding community, and making the game auto update just seems poor form when updates can -and do- often break mods until the modder gets around to fixing them up for the new ESM. Either way, at least like this I can keep the updates turned off and not have to bother with keeping Steam offline, too. And just in case it magically finds itself turned back on somehow, I still have my back ups.

First time poster. Noob here. Didn't have too much trouble until this patch. 50 hrs in and now game is most unstable for me to play. Here are my specs if anyone could help me tweak maybe? I'm getting terrible lag and stutter now after today's patch. I'm playing vanilla game. ..my specs are :

Intel i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80 GHz 2.80 Ghz
Ram 8.00 GB
64-bit OS
ATI HD Radeon 57xx series

I have major stutter and lag now since patch. I had game close one time on me with "Skyrim has stopped working" message the day of release but nothing since then until now.
I let game decide graphics (not very confident as to how to set CCC so it is set to factory defaults) And let game decide settings also. I am new to steam . I thought I had unchecked auto updates but
Skyrim updated regardless today. I may not have set that correctly.

I play DAO, DA2, Witcher1 and 2, Fable TLC and Fable 2 and 3 on this machine and Long time fan of Oblivion (Ive had it installed on all my computers since release :) along with Daggerfall, Morrowind.
I have all The Sims 2 and 3 also on this machine with FPS limiters and booters to help out with them.
But...
I am really stumped at what to tweak here to get better stability for Skyrim. This is one game that is unplayable now since this patch. Can anyone suggest help with this vid card on any settings that might make this smoother for me? I really am not too picky on the graphics- my main gameplay is the storylines etc. So I don't mind rough or bad textures. I just get vertigo with this stuttering now that I didn't have and can hardly play. Thanks for any tips in the CCC that might help.

I thought I had unchecked auto updates but
Skyrim updated regardless today. I may not have set that correctly.

If you turned it off, you set it correctly. The problem is when you launch Skyrim via it's launcher, it turns auto updates back on. Without informing or asking you. Why Skyrim is doing this, I don't know.

Now that you're on 1.2, though, I don't really know what can help other than finding a way (and there are some links floating around here on that) to roll back. From that point, you have to either leave Steam in offline mode until they release a hotfix for this patch, or if you're using the LAA fix to launch the game, launch only through it, and never through Skyrim's own launcher. Using the LAA launcher doesn't seem to turn the Auto Update back on for Skyrim, in Steam. I've tested it, and so has DarkDragon. Seems fine. But I'd keep back ups just in case.

Edit: After a quick Google search, it seems this resetting of auto update status is a known bug of Steam itself. In a bout of curiosity, I started messing with my Fallouts and ME1. Launching directly from the exe (bypassing the game's Launcher) seems to get around it. The autoupdate status you choose will stay intact. Going through the launcher seems to make it angry and revert. So it's a Steam bug, not a Skyrim specific one. Never paid it any heed before, though, as by the time I got the FOs and ME1 on PC, those were all done with updates. :P

Before (1.1): Played fine, vid settings maxed, 30+fps. 1 CTD @ 40+hrs of gameplay, unable to bind any keys to num pad (reserved).

After (1.2): Played fine, vid settings maxed, 30+fps. STILL unable to bind any keys to num pad (reserved).

Before anyone tries to be helpfull I am aware of the workaround for the the num pad found in the forums.
The 1.2 release notes mentioned fixing some key mapping issues so I got all excited assuming they fixed it...

Please try the method described in this post http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1299365-unofficial-pc-12-rollback-seems-to-work-for-me/

It absolutely worked for me, though I have to run the game in offline mode.

The one thing I truly wanted in this patch was the fix for keybinding issues. My thief has been stuck in Riften on the quest where you have to plant a ring on someone because it's impossible to drop or give an item if you rebound the keys. I was under the impression that the patch would fix this problem and I am sorely disappointed. I love the game otherwise, don't get me wrong, but it's very irritating to have such an obvious problem not only get overlooked but not have it fixed when it was supposed to be.

I have to agree. And what bothers me is that it's inconsistent. I remapped the movement keys to ESDF, because I touch-type and it feels very strange to have my hand anywhere else on the keyboard. In some places, my remapped keys match the display, and in others, they don't. Hardcoding the menus like that was a bad decision and I wish they hadn't done it.

I'm using AutoHotKey to get around the original hard coded key bindings (I haven't tried the patched version yet). I like playing with the arrow keys and wanted the sheath/unsheath key to be the large Enter key. But when I remapped the R to Enter I couldn't use the R in the menus. I remapped the keys back to their default settings then created an AutoHotKey script to redirect the Enter key input to activate the R key (along with some other changes). So now if I press "R" I get "R" and the menu code is happy, if I press "Enter", AutoHotKey sends out an "R" and I'm happy. Here's what my script looks like:

;
; AutoHotkey Version: 1.x
; Language: English
; Platform: Win9x/NT
; Author: A.N.Other
;
; Script Function:
; Template script (you can customize this template by editing "ShellNew\Template.ahk" in your Windows folder)
;

#NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.
SendMode Input ; Recommended for new scripts due to its superior speed and reliability.
SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir% ; Ensures a consistent starting directory.

#IfWinActive ahk_class Skyrim
MButton::e
XButton2::Tab
Enter::r
NumpadEnter::Enter
Backspace::f

I saved the script as "Skyrim Keymap.ahk". You have to run the script icon at least once before launching Skyrim. The Line "#IfWinActive ahk_class Skyrim" prevents the key remapping from working in any other program besides Skyrim.
The format is Keypress::Keyout. The AutoHotKey website has plenty of examples and keycodes such as the XButton2 for the 5th mouse button (if you have one available).

I read the Tab key was replaced by the Esc key in the patch for exiting menus. If you wanted to, you could add a line Esc::Tab and it would go back to how it was or you can use any other key or mouse button to exit the menus.

Well, CTD within about 45 seconds after installing patch. At load, it said things were missing so it's possible that was a mod issue. I delete my texture folder (only mods I have) and will see what happens...

OK well got to play for maybe 30 minutes after running "vanilla". A dragon came by, flying the normal way (forwards) but it just did a couple circles and left. I was right outside Whiterun. Then another CTD.

I am using one of the LAA mods, still. Might be an issue but before the patch it worked great...

EDIT: Well I just put in a few hours without any CTDs. I did get a BSOD, but that was "atikmd.dll" or whatever it is - essentially an ATI driver issue. I reinstalled all my texture packs, and a few other mods, and used the LAA and all is well. Didn't notice any improvements to the game, though. Menus are still weird at times - not letting me select things with the mouse, instead needing to use the mouse wheel (even arrow keys occasionally are disabled).

I did notice one bug, which I think was there pre-patch as well. Sometimes when I'm enchanting and I use the scroll wheel to go through the items, it will also zoom in/out on my character. Then when I quit enchanting it'll go back to first person view, but I'll be stuck for about 10-20 seconds and then I'll kind of move backwards automatically and it all works again. While stuck, no keys work.

Using the LAA launcher doesn't seem to turn the Auto Update back on for Skyrim, in Steam. I've tested it, and so has DarkDragon. Seems fine. But I'd keep back ups just in case.

Thank you very much for reply. I didn't realize lauching game would turn the updates back on. I have used Origin for EA games and such but have never used Steam so I didn't know it would override my setting. Ty I guess I'm stuck with this until next patch. I'm just sorry I can't play it now. But thank you for your help and reply.

If anyone can help me tweak the graphics for this card in the CCC I would be most grateful. I get physically sick trying to play with todays "fix" now. Strange it didn't stutter like this before this patch though. But thank you for your time , most appreciated by this Elder lady ;)

XBOX controller on PC no longer works after 1.2. Tried reinstall of controller and changing/resetting controller settings in game. Nothing.

Mine's working perfectly fine (and has been for the last 10 hours).

Tips:
Switch USB ports, after unplugging all ports.

Disconnect battery, followed by re-finding your controllers through the USB hub.

(If neither of those work)

Try connecting your 360 USB plug into a USB hub, before putting it into your computer.

This happened to me in DCUO once, turned out to be a printer driver issue.

Well, I failed the test and that is....pretty definitive...so no choice but to roll back to pre-Steam stealth 1.1.

I tried googling it earlier but found only codes from Oblivion. Easiest way is to go to Dragonsreach and buy "conjure flame atronach" tome from Farador the wizard. You'll need about 270 gold.

What's the code to spawn a Flame Atronach?

ID for the spell is 000204c3.

I'm guessing it'd be "player.addspell 000204c3" to get the spell or something?

I just summoned a Flame Atronach and tried using a fire spell on it. Is it supposed to say something about Resisting Fire Attacks in the top left corner of the screen? Cause mine did NOT do that.
