Patch 1.2 Unofficial Thread #5

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 4:11 am

Why change tab key to esc in terms of closing menus? It sounds like a slight annoyance, but when the option asks me to press "enter" or "tab" keys to do or don't do something respectively for example, I'm inconvenienced in pressing esc when I'm so used to tab. Quest bugs I can handle, but this is a game changer for me.

I would *really* love to have a look at this automated test framework they've cooked up. At any rate, although it's been posted dozens of times already I'll repeat it: resistances are broken and dragons don't give up their souls, even with a fresh install and a new game.

Automated testing, indeed.

I'm confused. I want to play the game, but Steam tells me I can't because it isn't patched. I can't find out where to download said patch. How do I play?

Nevermind. The problem was Scriptdragon. I was looking forward to using that. :(

People said to delete your ini files then check the cache again. I'm not sure if you have to delete your documents AND C drive or just one of them.

My Documents one. Both Skyrim and Skyrimprefs.ini. Let the game generate a new one. They log into the game and test. Afterwards, do your tweaking.

Ive done my tweaking already pre-patch and set mine to "READ-ONLY" afterwards. The game cannot make changes then. Since the patch, I turned V-Sync OFF and it plays like you would expect. No disparity between X and Y ratios.

My game runs just as smooth before the patch. Just now i get drop in FPS when i fast travel to any where. I've never had the CTD like every one e'ls my game has run perfect from day one apart from having to tweak the ini file. I must be extremely lucky.

Bethesda:

Its clearly obvious that you have become victims of your own success. Given that this game has already outsold Oblivion.Yes there where always issues but never on the scale of Skyrim. Its clear you thought you could rush this game out, meet the 11.11.11 release date and hope people wouldn't noticed that you'd done a shoddy job of it.
Do you honestly think the community is completely stupid?

You've messed around the Xbox owners, made a complete joke of yourselves with the PS3 users clearly you shouldn't even make versions of your games for that console since you clearly don't understand the architecture. Now you've started to alienate the PC userbase. What are you doing?

Actually correct that. What have you been doing? Its apparent that you have no QA, no Testers. All you can do is close down peoples posts as quickly as they go up. I'd understand if it was a few angry people but you've successfully managed to upset 90% of users who bought this game. Did you get dizzy counting your daily profits and forget to put the appropriate amount of effort into the patches or were you still hungover from Thanksgiving?

Clearly the latest update is absolute rubbish for almost everybody. At least do the decent thing and issue a statement saying you messed up bigtime. Its such a shame since you've made a good game but seriously it needs fixing and fast like in 48 hours before you turn everyone against you.

Oh and I don't approve of Ninja Shannigans you and Steam have going, updating my game against my wishes when its been in constant off-line mode.

I think trying to do a spell to a Antronach using the same spell type that they are is a little bit more accurate test. Even if you arn't a caster there are scrolls and every character starts with flames.

Yeah, I just tested this and can confirm that a flame atronach takes fire damage and dies. Shame, cause I didn't experience any of the other bugs (dragon AI, UI keys [censored] up). Now I'll need to roll back to 1.1. What a complete [censored] waste.

Edit: if you want to test 4 yourselves, easiest way is to go to dragonsreach and buy conjure flame atronach tome (about 250g) from Ferador the wiz.

I had the vertical mouse issue. Deleting and regenerating skyrim.ini fixed that. The difference was in the old version fMoustHeadingYScale was 0.0100 and in the 1.2 version it's 0.8500.

I noticed the lock rotation has gone from A/D to the currently bound strafe keys. This seems like the intended behaviour, but it's not documented and the UI doesn't indicate correct keys. Whoever hardcoded the key descriptions in the menus deserves a thorough dressing down methinks.

Ok, after doing a bit of testing here is what i've noticed on my system:

1)Dragons ARE still giving me souls

2)Dragons ARE NOT flying backwards

3)Dragon flight is VERY erratic. I caught one flying in a tight circle super fast, like it was caught in a tornado. I wish I had recorded, it was quite humorous.

4)I have NO problems with quick traveling or the map

5)Resistances are NOT working

6)NO increase in FPS, NO decrease in FPS

7)NO mouse/keyboard problems

8)Haven't experienced a crash yet, but haven't played that much since patch

Running no mods / Vanilla Skyrim w/ Ultra Settings
Not running the LAA launcher

Is anyone else experiencing FPS drop with this new patch?

Yes, randomly, between 5-25 fps drops out doors in the world (though turning AA x2 off and switching to FXAA seems to run slightly better only getting 5-15 fps drop with that). Though funnily enough i don't seem to get more than a 5 fps drop using the 4gb LAA patch (works fine with AA x2 or FXAA).
Haven't bothered to check in towns or indoors yet, as its late.

The patch slaughtered any control I had in the game. Before I could look left and right, up and down with only a little bit of problems; but, post 1.2 I can only look right and left, the Y axis is dead to me; which, makes the game completely impossible to play. Thanks! =)

The one thing I truly wanted in this patch was the fix for keybinding issues. My thief has been stuck in Riften on the quest where you have to plant a ring on someone because it's impossible to drop or give an item if you rebound the keys. I was under the impression that the patch would fix this problem and I am sorely disappointed. I love the game otherwise, don't get me wrong, but it's very irritating to have such an obvious problem not only get overlooked but not have it fixed when it was supposed to be.

Whoever hardcoded the key descriptions in the menus deserves a thorough dressing down methinks.
I have to agree. And what bothers me is that it's inconsistent. I remapped the movement keys to ESDF, because I touch-type and it feels very strange to have my hand anywhere else on the keyboard. In some places, my remapped keys match the display, and in others, they don't. Hardcoding the menus like that was a bad decision and I wish they hadn't done it.

Mouse has no vertical movement. Looking side-to-side is fine, but I can't look up or down at all. This is not a sensitivity issue. With the sensitivity maxed out, I still cannot look up or down. Mouse movement in menus is fine.
I can look up and down in fact in any direction, but the mouse sensitivity is going berserk (lack of density for my mouse) on my game right now so yes there is a sensitivity issue a least for me. Everything is working so far and I haven't got the time to check out other things yet.

So I deleted my prefs file and let the new one be installed. I don't have any problems with crashing or backwards dragons since the patch. My only problem is that now my mouse is on the lowest setting and it's still a bit whiplash-ey. Any advice?

1) Mouse break. Y-axis >= 2 * X-axis. Mouse behavior in 1.1 was great in compare with 1.2. My hand pain after 20 minutes with 1.2.
2) Start play with Nord race like in 1.1. There is no more Active Effect with 50% resistance to ice.

this happens to me too.

Personally, I would have been a lot harsher. I like what you said though, especially the part where the mods are using every excuse concerning practically every topic that has something to do with the patch outside of these sanctioned threads to lock it down.

They doing [censored] damage control. I think people are starting to notice.

I'm finding this whole situation just stupid.

Save 1 cannot turn in most Quests, Dialog options not there.... that's fine game just released and i made some mistakes in my choices anyway (v1.1 released about halfway between start and issue) 25-50 hours of play not sure

Save 2 no issues get pretty far all factions done just started working on main quest. bout 80hours of play....V1.2 .......
issue 1 armor has no value armor rating of 0 even freshly crafted
issue 2 no magical resistance not counting Nord.
issue 3 my weapon damages for all weapons i look at are somewhere in the 10,000-20,000 damage marks even thought they were fine last night (bow was 160 something as a reference dagger was 90)
issue 4 i dint like running anything 3rd party on my machine, if i don't know what it is, with the exception of mods for these games. that being said i feel i shouldn't have to run a third party exe to get >2gigs of use out of my machine. just to get it to stop crashing. honestly the rotating in bed thing the npc's did was figgin Hilarius. the fact my nord is no longer playable isn't. and if it wasn't for the fact that this game relies on a 3rd party application that automatically updates it (Steam), and due to my unfamiliarity with steam, i will not get my nord back. that's fine but if i have to make a Save 4 because Bethesda broke there [censored] again, im going to bust out the flame throwers and a wildfire will be the least of there worries.

btw 4 hours of sleep = poor punctuation..... poor Rokthur Blackfist.......i should throw him at a dragon....but they keep running away
and if you want to flame with me i use napalm in my throwers. /endrant CHEESE FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to try somthing other than summons, go to a Dwelmer ruin and try cold spells on the constucts. They are immune to those. Or at least they were until the patch.

Atronachs are taking damage from their own elements, and my resistances are nullified. Absorb still seems to work, so i can still stop 80%-85% of all magic, not much help on dragons though.

So now my Breton 1H mace+shield paladin is now worthless at tanking mages/dragons now.
On the plus side my game had no problems loading, dragons don't fly backwards, and lockpicking still works.
All of my mods seem to still be working, but none of them are major. No problems with .DLL files either.

The game runs a bit smoother/better fps for me me now outside, but I don't think it's worth keeping the patch for a few extra FPS. Fortunately I completely backed up the previous version and can restore.

The patch only seems to have replaced tesv.exe and interface.bsa, so you only need to back those files up before starting steam if you wish to restore 1.1. The dates modified remain untouched on everything else.

Yeah several ways, try http://www.fraps.com/ out.
No need to use it to record just have it running in the background, it'll show your fps in a corner of the screen as you play.

Im pretty sure theres some console command you could use to get the same result, but i don't know it :P

[Edit]: This is if your on pc of course.
