Riften Massacre - Master Vampire Attacks... (imgs)

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 10:10 pm

Well for your information "MonkeyBiscuit & Merv" I don't OP My Char & its set to Master Difficulty...

I only set the One/two Handed to the first 5/5...
No Restoration/Smithing loop either...

Matter of choice, My Experience, My play style - Remember Single Player Game - My Actions do not Affect You in your Game!

If you think I am Mad or Upset. You are Mistaken, you need to stop Assuming... I never made a comment about not being content with the outcome...

And as a rule in RPG - due to the Hours you can spend & lose by not saving - Save Often & as much as Possible...

I did suggest some ways to alleviate some players frustrations by load prev Transition Auto-save or their save and wait-time 24 or so hrs...

its funny I thought alot of Dawnguard Skyrimmers would post their Vampire Attack Casualties (pics recommended)

Just my lil old 2nd hand septims...

They weren't directing that at you. They were making fun of people who come on to threads about this issue and say "You must svck at this game to not be able to defend those NPCs." or "You're just exaggerating. I never have this problem." These vampire attacks are a very big problem which needs to be fixed by Bethesda, but some people don't seem to be able to grasp that.

It's only a "very big problem" to a very few amount of people. No reason for Bethesda to change a mechanic in the game for such a small population of people.

That's just business.

Such a predictable reply.

If it's only a minority, then how do you explain the 20+ threads made about the issue? It's only been five days since Dawnguard's release.

And there's even more threads about it on other websites. Just googling "dawnguard random vampire attacks" brings me loads of threads about it. I'm afraid that is not a minority.

Wonder how many people complained about ME3 ending in the first week? And this is only the 360 people right now. Still PS3 players to come. Not so much PC because they will obviously mod it out, Will be worth noting how many downloads that gets but yep, not to worry, not a problem at all.

I predict it ends up in the top 25 all-time mods on SkyNex. ;)

Saw this Quote & thought it was fitting now - :)

“Truth always rests with the minority, and the minority is always stronger than the majority, because the minority is generally formed by those who really have an opinion, while the strength of a majority is illusory, formed by the gangs who have no opinion -- and who, therefore, in the next instant (when it is evident that the minority is the stronger) assume its opinion... while truth again reverts to a new minority.” - Soren Kierkegaard

Because it's the same ten people or so making the threads. And frankly, with the trolling that goes on on the "other sites", I wouldn't be surprised to know that they're exaggerating it as well.

Something comes along that someone dislikes, they're more than happy to make it sound like the end of the world and vastly over-exaggerate how bad the supposed "issue" is. They also conveniently ignore all of the accolades and say that the reviews are "nothing but trashing" the DLC/expansion.

So, no. I don't believe that it's anywhere near as bad as you've made it out to be. My own experience with the DLC (for a far longer period) tells me that it isn't that bad. And a majority of the Beta testers are right there with me, and even a whole army of non-Beta testers think it's fine as well.

No one wants to acknowledge the hordes of people who think it's fine, and typically that's because if people like something, they don't report on Forums that they like it. They're too busy playing it. So of course it looks like there's a disproportionate amount of people hating it, and funny enough, the numbers are very non reflective of the whole of the community playing this game.

Remember when this discussion was about dragons ? I do and look what the end result was... dragons that will never land unless forced to, all they do is circle over head.
I remember when the game first cme out that dragons would land at any given moment just to chomp at you, then people started to complain that dragons where too hard and that they couldn't defend towns properly which ended up killing a lot of NPC's in their game.
I was one of the few that actually enjoyed the fact that the second you saw a dragon you stopped what you where doing to destroy this dragon before it could cause too much damage. And now I look apon the vampire attacks the same way, they just add spice to the game, your always in a constent state of high alert and always on guard. This adds a certain element of ergency to the game, which points you in the direction of completeing the main Dawnguard quest before thing get out of hand. Before you accuse me of calling you all sissies hear me out.

I was in Solitude the second day( in game ) of starting Dawnguard, as I was passing by the little cart market on the way home( it was about 8pm ) I noticed a gentelman derssed in black hooded robes, thought nothing of it just a priest or mage. As we crossed paths I noticed that the finger tips of his gloves where tipped with steel, then I noticed that the steel was sharpened so I look up to his face and saw that this " traveler " was in fact a master vampire. The second our eyes meet he went into DESTROY mode and begain to attack me and the towns folk, the fight lasted a minute or two and the only death was that of the old drunk who hangs out in front of the Winking skever. From this point on I learned a very good lesson, I will make a lap around the entire city, any city , every time I walk in just to make sure there are no vampires.

Once I finished the Dawnguard mian quest the vampire attacks happen less and less and now it's to the point where I only see vampires of any sort out in the wild. So I say that these vampire attacks on towns is just a mechanic of the game to heard you in the direction of finishing the main quest so as to stop the attacks. I really never needed to enter a town while I did the Dawnguard quest and there for never really have that many attacks but they did stop once I had the quest finished.
So if you guys get what you want, a fix to the vampire attacks, you take a event away from someone like me who likes this feature and thinks it adds to the game. And once it's fixed it will be nerfed like they did the dragons and then there will be complaining that the vampires are not as hard as they should be.

So instead of going about your normal business while you play Dawnguard, why not focus on the task at hand and destroy the vampire threat. That way you complete the Dawnguard quest and stop the vampire attacks on towns, just like the main vanilla quest there are points where the dragons are very apparent in the game and then when you finish the quest they slacken. Which is what happens with the vampires, they get worse as you play through but then ease off after you finish the quest.

If you would kindly take a look at the vampire attacks fix or remove them poll topic, then you would see we are not the miniority. Also, we're not asking for much, just some smarter npcs that might actually run, and to tone them down after the main quest.

Maybe it's the same people keeping the thread going, but how do you explain the polls, then?

Look at this thread:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1391461-vampire-attacks-fix-them-or-remove-them-poll/

I'm seeing 117 votes to do something about this 'feature' compared to the 42 who wish for it to remain as it is. And don't come and say "It's just the same people voting over and over again." because that's just nonsense. You cannot vote twice. The polls do not lie.

So please, tell me again that we are a minority.

That's funny I had an attack in Riften and I managed to repell the attack. Only one civillian got killed but he wasn't important. Just goes to show when I am armed with dual Deadric Swords you stay the [censored] away.

Any Vampires want to start trouble? Bring it, I need to kill something :D

You know what I mean about the realism comment! Hehe. Anyway, yes, I suppose it can lead to a Ghost Town effect- leading me to suggest that respawning/replacing NPCs after a certain amount of time would be better; plus limiting vampire attacks to 1 per month on each city might be a fair idea.

These are great solutions, we don't have to take this feature out just make sure we don't have ghost towns.

As soon as I see vampires in a city I use the slow time shout in an attempt to kill them before they kill NPCs. It usually works but chain lightening has a habit of killing not only vampires...

I usually just paralyze the master vampire, then take him out only lost one guard.

Isn't it wonderful we have these XBox people finding out all these plunders before us?

This issue is making some 360 users wait anyway until (or if) we get a patch to fix it. PC users can just mod it out when they get it... Lucky so and so's. :yuck:

No its been reduced by half i believe. Mines at stage 4 is 50% fire weakness. Same for frost resistance.

I had an entire village near the thousand steps path killed when I installed the DLC and entered my autosafe. Dead, everyone with no idea how it happened. I haven't played in months and I have to try and remember how the hell everyone got killed. Thats Realism? I want to see your reaction after being droped in ghost town full of dead bodies. Other then a possible loss of my favourite NPC's I'm just fine with it.

Considering how Bethesda also loves to break mods with their patches - PC players would also be better off waiting.

I think the biggest issue here is that if even one non-guard npc dies each attack, it is non-recoverable damage dealt to your town/community. On the surface it seems minor, but if you have a popular hangout, like riften, and you go there often and there is a small chance of an attack each time you visit... well I'm sure you're starting to get a picture of what happens. Of course this doesn't take into account the fact that an attack can start without you being near it, or even aware of it happening. For example you exit the thief's guild while a vampire starts his attack by the main gate... well you don't know it's even going on, so you could be going about your business while he's killing off the population and in general causing more and more irrecoverable damage. If your solution is to simply run around the city every time you enter it, well I for one would consider that a bad solution, as the attacks still happen and distance can still allow a vampire to kill off npcs before you arrive (this happened to me in whiterun, I exited dragonsreach and found the brawl going on by the gate, no matter how fast I ran there was at least one casualty by the time I got there, usually a guard, but it could've been the blacksmith just as easily).
