Skyrim just blew my PS3 out

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 7:35 pm

Well previous Bethesda titles continue to have the same problem, so it comes down to Bethesda not coding the PS3 version right so the PS3 can function properly without crashing. Its likely Bethesdas fault since the problem Skyrim is having is similar to what previously released titles on the PS3.

Did Oblivion have this problem? I remember getting A LOT of hours clocked into that on my PS3 and I didnt experience any game/system killing issues. It was my first and only (before Skyrim) Bethesda PS3 buy so I assumed Bethesda knew what they were doing.

This is basically my synopsis of this thus far, as i've seen a few other people complain about this very issue, and also people reported this issue happening in New Vegas - only not to the extent of what has happened to me. To me it's the only logical thing to believe. I just really find it hard to believe that my PS3 randomly corrupts whilst playing Skyrim, while other games play(ed) completely fine.

I heard Bethesda didnt code Oblivion for PS3 and by the time it came out for the PS3 all the DLC was already out for Oblivion. There wasnt much for Bethesda to screw up, but Fallout 3 had problems and New Vegas had problems and now Skyrim has similar problems like the past two. Its logical to assume that Bethesda isnt coding their games properly for the PS3 and not giving the PS3 the same love as 360/ PC versions.

New Vegas wasn't coded by Bethesda.

Shame, I wanted to get into the Fallout series, but I dont have an Xbox nor a PC I want to game on. I hear Fallout was WAAY worse than Skyrim (problem wise). And Bethesda didn't do jack about it. (found this out after I got Skyrim, before this I never bothered to look up Bethesdas track record on the PS3)

I haven't been able to play Skyrim since a week after launch. I started to get bad choppiness so I stopped playing. Every time I've tried to return the game the people at the store blamed my PS3 for Skyrim's performance. But every other game I've been playing in these last 3 weeks runs 100% fine. I'm sick of people blaming the PS3 for Bethesda's poorly coded piece of [censored]. The fact that they are getting away with it is disgusting. Thankfully after talking to customer service at the head office of the store I bought the game at I am finally going to get either a refund or an exchange for the 360 version. This will be the last Bethesda game I ever buy.

I believe this guy. It totally is screwing with my ps3. Corrupt data every hours. It's just old. I'm just waiting for it explode. I'm not sure what's going to happen with my ps3 but one thing I know for sure is Skyrim just one GOTY and I expect Bethesda to hold its chin up high and say "go eat a sweetroll you poor thing, we ain't doing crap". What a shame. I hope I'm proven wrong.

My friend just got Skyrim and I told him he forgot to pick up one other thing while he was out. He said what. I replied headache medicine.

My theory. Try it out. It proves I'm right everytime when I do it. Okay so I never have freezes when I'm in a dungeon or a store or anywhere. It's usually in towns, always actually. I think it's the kids. When I'm in the part of town with no kids around nothing happens, no lag. Once I see a kid it starts. Then I did a mission, I was in a cave and I started to lag for the first time ever in a cave. Wouldn't you know there is a kid right around the corner. Then I'm in my breezehome. For some reason people always follow me in. Sometimes they are in there when I first get there. Anyway I had never had any freezing or lagging. One of those times a kid followed me in and it froze. I'm telling you the kids are evil. Try it.

I dont understand some of these posts. Is it normal for ps3 to just up and stop working after a few months like the OP's? I've never heard about that before. This game is freezing his system repeatedly which I'd assume isn't good for it. So it seems only natural that the game would be a contributing factor to a new system breaking so early if no other games are causing any problems whatsoever.

I've been on these forums for a while now, and the above comment is also my opinion on the whole 'Skyrim broke my PS3' topic. PS3s, and in fact Sony products in general, don't break so easily. Defects being shipped out are rare, and I've read way too many comments in this forum of relatively new PS3s just breaking down while playing the crash-happy Skyrim.

Sometimes Occam's Razor holds up. May not hold up in a court of law, but it holds up with this paying customer who won't ever pre-order a Bethesda game ever again.

Joking and trolling aside, Skyrim makes extensive use of the PS3's HDD using a portion of it as a pagefile or swap file. This means that the limited PS3's RAM swaps data back and forth with the HDD for the game's elements to load and work. So, it's not just save files and game data that reside in your PS3's HDD. There are these temporary files that you can't see when you play the game, that get deleted when you quit. In that respect Skyrim could corrupt that portion of your HDD making it unusable as a whole. The way to make it working again is to re-format it.

After a couple of freezes during the game and the warning about possible PS3 HDD corruption that I got with the latest firmware update, I decided not to play Skyrim again until the problems are (hopefully) resolved. Luckily I have a bunch of games to play. I suggest everybody who experiences frequent crashes do the same.

Isnt it true that a PS3 update for vita support came out around the same time as skyrim 1.2 came out.

Anyone thought that because all they play on is skyrim and it might be the ps3 update and not that game?

If you experience crashes with your other games since the update the new firmware could be at fault. I don't though, so for now I blame the game.

The patch came in before the PS3 update. So no... The patch DID broke the game before the update. I've been following these forums since day 1.

Yeah I don't think it's 4.0, I uninstalled 1.2 and played a 6 hour sesh and didn't freeze once. I'll do another longish play tomorrow and see what happens.

Just read the thread man, 4 month old PS3 and out of the blue it gets blown out. I'm talking rattling/rumbling then a freeze up. I turn the PS3 back on and my entire drive is corrupted.

Ha! I've noticed the major freezes happening within towns (mostly Whiterun for me) but never the dooming kid that was around. I remember even doing a game of tag with some kids in Solitude without any issues. However, I will state along the lines of the OPs problems. I've been finding that I've been getting tons of freezes. I've now set the game aside personally for fear of breaking my PS3. However, I must note another strange thing: Myself, my girlfriend and my roommate at them moment are also playing. Although I experience major freezes (at one point, in order to restart my system, I had to literally pull the plug - was worried I could've made some problems worse), neither my girlfriend nor my roommate are. I have more hours invested than my girlfriend but not as much as my roommate... he's not getting the freezes... she's not getting the freezes (at least not to the degree that I am) all three on the same system...

I'm having no issues with any other thing running on my system personally. Although I have no "physical proof" that Skyrim is at fault regarding my own issues, I choose to "not roll the dice". I never purcharsed FO3 or FO:NV (I know NV was a different studio but still) I heard horror stories regarding them. I do think that it is lack of care for programming for the PS3 and rushing the product before it is 100%. I will personally wait for another update before I pick up the game again.

In regards to the posts going against the system, I'll just say that I stand closer to Sony than I do to Beth when it comes to quality control.

So I enter Whiterun on my alt Argonian character, all of a sudden my PS3 rumbles and shuts down. I turn it back on and my entire HD is corrupted. I have lost everything on my PS3.

It is an electronic device, there are a number of things which cause a system malfunction. If you go to the FO:NV HW/SW issues board you will see posts claiming that game broke systems, infact there is one right on page 1 now.

The point is users will blame which ever game is in the system at the time (especially if it is new) without much consideration. If it WERE the game's fault, you would see a problem, not just some posts here and there.

If you read my previous posts, my PS3 was in fact playing other games fluidly with no problem whatsoever. There is no coincidence that Skyrim blew my HD out, it is the game that I was playing at the time and it is an established FACT that this game is bugged, and others are having the same problem.

As I said, my PS3 had no previous problems before Skyrim, and there's a reason why i'm not the only one experiencing game freezing, except this my case, it was a little worse.
