Is Skyrims price fair ?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 4:27 am

If $60 is a fair price for crap like COD and that failure of a new Ratchet & Clank game , then Skyrim should cost $60,000 dollars

I think so. I mean, seeing the US prices still makes me sad as an Australian, but $89 on steam sure beats the hell out of $114 at EB Games.

I think the comparison to other games like Call Of Duty is a little off. First of all, if you go by sheer playtime, I'm sure you can get as much out of CoD if you're into it as its main factor is obviously the online multiplayer stuff.

Even if you argue it's pretty much the same CoD like the previous one with a new three hours story campaign, it didn't cost less to produce than the other games. People are working on it, people need a salary and the company also wants a little profit, all of which doesn't really depend on the content they made. It should also be realized these prices do not necessarily represent only the actual value of a game (working hours, production costs, shipping) but also the demand. CoD is being sold "like warm buns", as we say here, why should they sell it for a bargain price?

As for Skyrim shoulding (that even a word?) cost more due to what it has to offer, I must disagree as well. First thing to mention would be that what you pay in the store is not what Bethesda gets from you, you basically pay the shop owner. He has no more work with the game than he has with other games. They might sell the game for more to the retailers to begin with, but again, do you think Bethesda does not already get more than enough for each copy? Do you think they would be even making this game if they wouldn't know to a certain degree of certainty it'll be worth it for them? The game's actual "value" does not directly depend on the content but on the work invested. Who was working on it and who would profit from a higher price? Definitely not the same persons. Do you believe if the game would be sold for $100, some graphic designer, a programmer and the secretary will get a higher salary? I'd say no.

Yes, though I wish we could buy some sort of DLC pass so we don't have to spend sooooo much $$$$$ over the months it is out.,

Now I loved the elderscrolls series since the time I started playing oblivion and checked out the game before that, morrowind.Aand No one can disagree on this; Thay're crazy big games. So then we compare this game to my chosen example, Call of duty. who releaser a new (IMO horrible) game every year. that new game gets little to no added content except for campaign and storyline added opposed to the previous game, and now I go out from PC prising here. THey charge more for their game than skyrim !? that is jsut mad not only because the price for call of duty is redicoulusly high, but also because Skyrims price is rediscoulusly low. Now I don't know if you agree with me here, but with everything that exists in skyrim, and with all the dept in the game, I see it as justifiable by bethesda to charge around 100 $ for a regular copy of theur game. Just sharing my opinion. Sorry for any grammatical errors

I believe it to be slightly low, with todays economy tho, I am glad they priced it as is. tho to be fair, 69.99 US woulda been more fair to the company

Video Games in general, are overpriced, but not more overpriced than movie theatres. If the amount of the game bothers you, the only option is to wait a year at least. If it gets GOTY status, you might be able to get it for 20.

I don't think it's overpriced. It seems like a great deal if the promise of 300 hours holds. That's a few cents per hour, I've done much worse when it comes to entertainment.

I don't know whether it's underpriced. I wouldn't want to second-guess Bethesda on that one. If they want 50 Euro then who am I to say they should ask for more? I'd pay more if they did, though.

Here in South Africa I've just got my email confirming the price for the CE... It's costing R865 which is roughly the equivalent of $100 or thereabouts, so when you look at it like that some people are getting seriously ripped off for the normal copy of the game... But I suppose everywhere is different. The standard game here is priced at R350 (pre-order), which is about $44 or so, roughly... I guess we're lucky in that games have (generally) stayed pretty cheap here... SC2 was pretty expensive though :(

Paid £24.98 (Tesco UK). Throw in the free Construction Kit, all the free Mods that will appear, the 100s of hours of gameplay. It's almost like getting it for nothing. It costs me more than that to go to the pictures these days.

You guys should stop [censored]ing. In Australia, it's $100+ for all new releases. I would LOVE to only play $60. You're lucky bastards and you get games cheap, so shut up and appreciate that your video games are sold for pretty much HALF of what I have to pay :verymad:

Based solely on the amount of game-play, I would say it is worth more than $60 dollars US. Of course, the game-play has to be enjoyable :) I think it will.

I'll get two-five years minimum out of it. That's worth the price of half a dozen games.

I have no problem with the game's pricing. If it was higher though, I probably wouldn't pre-order.

Arent they the same price? Or atleast they are here in Finland, which is about 50-60 €. And here you can order pretty much any game for 43€ or lower from Aland storage but it takes usually almost a week to arrive to you so I just reserved it from a nearby Gamestop so I get it on friday :P (Aland is an autonomous province of Finland located in an island near it)

Pricing is regular in Norway (400 kr) which is less than games like CoD (500 kr).
Of course the CE is really expencive (1200kr, 1300 for PS3 and XboX).

I have no quarrel with the 30 euros price I got at Amazon.co.uk. Premium map included and sent to my doorstep at no additional cost.
The 50 euros STEAM would be charging me ammount to legalized armed robbery as far as I'm concerned.

The nerve.

Amazon.co.uk needs to step in into the digital distribution market and have STEAM file for bankrupcy.

Call of duty. who releaser a new (IMO horrible) game every year.

Your opinion, as well as many other people including myself. I know people who beat the game yesterday afternoon, and found countless recycled textures and such. Then all your left with is overrated online gameplay. People into the online gameply do some of the cheapest stuff just to get kills, making it no fun if your playing it at a friends or somthing. And it seems like in every game theres at lest a couple annoying pre pubascent boys, funny how that is.

And about the price... I'm not saying I want an increase, but it would be justifiable and I wouldn't have a problem. From what I've seen, and after the leaks, I've seen alot, the game is incredible.

I completely agree. In fact, I agree so much that I finally made an account here to post my agree-ing-ness!

I'm not sure what they should charge exactly, but i'd pay a couple of hundred bucks for this without even blinking. I realize that's not typical though. It does seem criminal when these FPS's that get pumped out every year are charging more. Skyrim has 3 or 4 times the time in development, and i'd like to think that we TES fans are about as loyal as they come. They should be charging at least as much as the COD or BF games, and i'd like to see them charge $10-20 more.

I don't know about anyone else, but i've well and truly learnt that the old addage, "You get what you pay for," is true more often than not. So if I see something on the shelves for a bit more it usually makes me more interested rather than less. At the very least i'll go and have a look at it. And that's with anything, not just games. I guess they're trying to keep the price low to appeal to the console market, many of whom have probably never heard of TES. I'd really like to see them get paid what they deserve though.

In fact, just to add to my post above, I went and spent 4 grand on a fully kitted out Alienware M18x just so I can play Skyrim on max everything while I work overseas. So the fans will always pay.

I'd say more than fair. It costs the same as games with half the number of people working on it developed in less than half the time.

And you can't really put a price on Epic.

the price is totally fair for skyrim, bought it for around 50 dollars, totally fair price for a game this size, and just thinking about the effort to create it.. i have no problem what so ever with the price for skyrim.
