Is Skyrims price fair ?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 4:11 am

Now I loved the elderscrolls series since the time I started playing oblivion and checked out the game before that, morrowind.Aand No one can disagree on this; Thay're crazy big games. So then we compare this game to my chosen example, Call of duty. who releaser a new (IMO horrible) game every year. that new game gets little to no added content except for campaign and storyline added opposed to the previous game, and now I go out from PC prising here. THey charge more for their game than skyrim !? that is jsut mad not only because the price for call of duty is redicoulusly high, but also because Skyrims price is rediscoulusly low. Now I don't know if you agree with me here, but with everything that exists in skyrim, and with all the dept in the game, I see it as justifiable by bethesda to charge around 100 $ for a regular copy of theur game. Just sharing my opinion. Sorry for any grammatical errors

I would say the price is fair because I will probably get several years of play out of it, where Call of Duty is a weekend or two.

It is a bargain when you think of how much time you can spend on it but they'd get slaughtered it they tried to sell it for 100 quid.

Suffice it to say I've never ever paid this much for a game before.

Nobody else but fans would buy skyrim if it was 100$. Its MW3 and other yearly updating games what should cost less.

divide the amount of gametime you can get out of this by the price of the game.
If anything, bethesda got ripped off lol

An immersive 300+ hours of singleplayer or 300+ of same old MP with obnoxious people. Easy pick.

What price is a fair price is different for every person playing. The way I tend to look at it is if I get an hour or 2 for every dollar I spend on the game then I got a good deal. With TES games even if i spent 300 dollars on them i would go above and beyond my typical viewpoint. So id say yes 60 dollars is a fair price, and yes 100 dollars would be a fair price. Heck i even went and paid 150 for the collectors edition.

depends on how you break it down, Skyrim will hold a higher price longer then other games because it will rarely get traded in, where MW3 will sell like 10million copies the first week and have like 5 million traded in within 2 weeks.

Collectors additions isn't fair. Normal game is. All games are $60 new now. I remember when they were half that =/

Howard believes that Skyrim is worth no more than $60.

He does not think that you should pay $60 for substandard games.

I have to pay $90 US for Skyrim.

Its pretty cheap for entertainment.

How much do you get from 50$ in other forms of entertainment?

A movie with soda and candy ?
A little trip to the local pub ?
Going to an event ? (could be music etc)

Buying Skyrim and getting 300+ hours of entertainment ??

I sure know whats going to give me most.

Edit - my 50$ is for the pc version ofc.

I think all games are slightly to much money anymore but RPGs are the most fair since you spend so much time on them. Even fps are fair since people can spend years running in circles and shooting each other (I find them exceptionally boring but meh). Action/adventure games however I never spend money on (But will borrow from a friend ^^) because 60 bucks for something I will play for like 3-4 hours at best is just not worth it to me. But in short yeah I think skyrim is decent price.

I consider the standard/day one edition priced very fair. The collector's edition is still a bit overpriced, but it's no must have after all, so still fine though.

Owned two copies of Oblivion (360 and PC) and compiled 1200 hours against the game over the course of 4 years. $110 CAD total for 1200 hours. $ 0.09/hour... seems pretty good to me :)

If I get the 300 hours out of Skyrim they've advertised (and I'm banking I will if I could stomach that much Oblivion), then I'm looking at $ 0.20/hour - until I factor in the $1200 on the computer I built to play the game... then it's a little pricey lol. Either way, bring it on.

If they tryed to sell the game for $100 they would get no sales execept for hardcoe fans, and also not everyone can spend a 100 dollars on a game just for the regular copy.......
so unless they want no sales and less money they would never raise the price to $100, And also the collectors edition would be $200-$220 which is too much for any game, even skyrim

I think Jim Sterling mentioned that prices should be flexible like, say, cars. And stuff. Why are all games the same price? At least Indie games have broken into different price-brackets.

I agree with OP, Skyrim is dirt cheap for the hours of play-time it'll give you compared to other games. Perhaps some future iteration of TES will have increased prices, when the franchise is better known.

Skyrim would be completely justified at $250 and maybe even higher. Seriously.
