Is Skyrims price fair ?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 11:03 pm

Whether or not it's worth more than $60, if it was retailed at $100 it wouldn't sell very well. No one would want a $100 dollar game, and only hardcoe TES fans would be willing to actually shell out cash for it.

I remember seeing a topic like this before.

Talking about how it should be charged higher than say...MW....BF....Batman....games like that

And i saw a post that pretty much summed it up, was along the lines of - ''Its the other game makers that should be charging LESS, because they didnt make a game FULL of content, not Bethesda charging more because they have done ''more''

Dont you think thats true? Think of BF3....thats MP , technically there is years of ''fun'' there, but it still sold at retail price. Same with MW3. MP wise here, Skyrim is SP only. Sure there is a lot, but how can you logistically put a price on hours spent. I think the price is fine.

Like i said in the other thread, if they make a great game they will get more sales, thats where the profit margin kicks in. People will buy a great game more than a game thats lacking, and uninteresting.

I took the price and divided it by 1000 (Miniumum amount of hours ill spend playing total) to see how much I will pay per hour. The result was easy to see, Ive never bought a cheaper game ever.

Yeah I just paid off my pre order with trade ins at gamestop. $55 for the game and $23 for the Guide. I say it is worth it, I wouldn't pay the $150 for the CE though.

I have played call of duty plenty of times and actually own most of the call of duty games myself. And how is stating the fact that CoD is a redundant repackaged game that should actually be reffered to as a big expansion blind hate ?

Sadly this is true of almost all franchises, but most especially of sports games and FPS. This is why I haven't bought any new military FPS sims or any sports games since 2006. The genres are pretty much done, and now the only improvements are cosmetic.

Meanwhile, TES succeeds by providing free modding tools and paying close attention to the to player created & player vetted mods. Incorporating concepts from the best of the best mods with each new series, and ensuring that the changes made will be what the community really wants. This way, even though the TES series only gets an offical volume every 5 or so years, it is still in a perpetual state of flux and evolution.

Elder Scrolls games are hands down the Bang for the Buck Bargain of Video Games. People go from one shooter to another as each comes out, the old shooter being forgotten. This means if people want online opponents (about the only reason to play those games as the single player parts are short and not worth replaying that much), they have to get the new game as the numbers dwindle on the old games.

Wasn't long ago I spent 120$ for FFXI for the PS2(the actual game/hdd and the network adapter), then a few years later I spent 39.99 on games that I wanted on release, then a few years later I was paying 49.99, and now I'm paying 65.09$ for my games(recent purchases are Skyrim and ToR).

I went in to my local gamestop today to check on my order(hope it was in early), and asked the owner over the last 12 years how much I had spent at his store and he told me I've spent upwards around 30,000$. So probably even if games get to 100$ a game I will still buy them if it's something I want to play.

Bethesda games are one of the few that can justify their high price tag at release. For most other games, I now have the habit to just wait a year and pick it up for half the price and all the DLC included.

PC definitely should have had some sort of incentive to buying it, like a price drop. I'm not saying that it isn't worth 60 dollars, but the only reason they priced it that way is because they can get away with charging extra money for nothing. Both of the games I've pre-ordered this year, TW2 and DX: HR, came with a price drop plus extra goodies along with them. Bethesda was being downright lazy as it came to incentivizing PC. I guess it worked, you greedy buggers.

considering the price drops to almost half after a week means the games even worth more than you think ;)

spare a thought for consolers, they pay well over for well under what we pc`ers get.

It is a bargain when you think of how much time you can spend on it but they'd get slaughtered it they tried to sell it for 100 quid.

^That.

Most games: $60/20 hours of gameplay = $3.00 per hour of fresh (never experienced before) entertainment.

Skyrim: $60/300+ hours of gameplay = $0.20 per hour of fresh entertainment.

The numbers don't lie.

So probably even if games get to 100$ a game......

I will stop playing games on release and buy them on the second round of retail when the price drops, like with the GOTY versions.

No, Bethesda could charge $150 alone for Skyrim and it would be worth it, SO the CE is well worth the cost.

Elder Scrolls games are one of the few games I'll pay this much for. I'm cheap, I buy most games out of the bargain bin. After Skyrim, I doubt I'll make another opening day game purchase until Fallout 4 is released. Maybe Guild Wars 2, but I'll probably want to do a bit of research on that one before I grab it.

Yes, the price is fair. Especially considering what the price will be for it in a year or two when the hype dies.

All games should just be 60 dollars, MW3 has just as much playability as Skyrim for people who like multi-player games, and it's not like Skyrim costs anymore to make.

Quite a narrow minded mindset there. Is something like Super Meat Boy or Minecraft worth 60 dollars? Castle Crashers? I know that's probably not what you meant, but articulate carefully.

The thing, as I said above, is that there's absolutely no reason PC games should cost 60 dollars. You're paying for a game, but nothing of physical guarantee along with it. PC games are worth less because they are purely and only bytes, and we should have companies acknowledge that we deserve to at least have a five dollar price knock.

I could barely understand the OP.
Each game has its own vibe, including Call of Duty, Black Ops sort of filled a void in the market when it comes to great arcade fps multiplayer, if you dont like this then shut up and buy Battlefield 3 jeez, they make games just like every other developer so buy them or dont. And if you want an open world shooter your gonna be waiting for quite a while for GTA 5

The PC version seems to have the same price as the console ones...

I'm gona wait a bit...just because I will have to download mods, because there seems to be less "content" as the previous ones...

Collectors additions isn't fair. Normal game is. All games are $60 new now. I remember when they were half that =/

*thinks* when were new games $30? Atari?

The OP has a point in that if Skyrim is anything like Oblivion or Morrowind or Fallout 3, then the dollars per hour value is dirt cheap. Those games give you far, far, far more gameplay than normal games.

However, I think it is a business decision by Bethesda. Because many, my guess is most, people won't pay more for a video game. And those not introduced to the Elder Scrolls type games would not understand the size and gameplay potential of the game. So while the dollar per hour cost of Skyrim might be dirt cheap, raising the price much above the current price would possibly result in less revenue. That's good for us who have to buy the game, and not at all bad for Bethesda - so looks like a win-win to me.

I think Beth's games are among the few that are actually worth $60. Most other games are just overpriced. My opinion, anyway.

I would gladly pay 200 septims for Skyrim. If Beth took donations, I'd give them some loot.

But they aren't getting my skooma!
