Is Skyrims price fair ?

I think the price is fair.

COD needs to have its games at $10 if they wish to be fair.

If the world was fair, Bethesda should have charged the CE price for the standard edition. Because the value you get for your money from games like this is amazing compared to all these action games that only takes 5-10 hours to complete. I have a personal rule, never pay full price for a game that has less than 12 hours of gameplay. And i am starting to think i should increase it to 20 because sales are so freaquent on steam these days.

From the nett store in my country.
Skyrim PC: 344kr = 61$, normal playtime for me is around 200+ hours for such games.
CoD MW3: 398kr = 70$, Campaign is said to be about 5 hours, include MP until i get bored, around 15 hours in total.

Now I ask you, Is this difference in price compared to value reasonable?

There was a time when most games offered the kind of depth and longevity many of you are expecting to get out of Skyrim, all for $40-$50.

It's not a question of whether Skyrim is overpriced (I think it is at $60), but rather a question of whether most other games are overpriced at what has become the standard $50 fee (for PC titles, consoles editions are generally $10 more). They are overpriced, in my opinion, especially when you start to hear developers boasting about "20 hours of gameplay". Back in the day nobody would use that ridiculously low amount as a selling point. Instead, you would hide that little "fact" and pray nobody found out before wasting their money on your product.

When I hear games advertising 40+ hours of gameplay, I think "yeah, and..?", because most games used to be that way. It was the standard. These days gamers are ready to gobble up whatever gets dropped in front of them and are willing to pay through the nose for the privilege. It's just sad.

I'm also tired of statues being included in collectors editions. Where do developers think all these statues are being displayed in the average gamer's home? Especially in the case of advlts, who are the ones with jobs that can more easily purchase collector's editions. All these statues do is give the developer an excuse to jack the price up to a ridiculous $150 price tag when in reality the statue costs a fraction of that to manufacture. I was perfectly happy to continue purchasing collector's editions at $75 when they came with smaller, useful items like music CD's and art books. Get greedy by tossing a bulky statue in the box and doubling that price tag and you can kiss my collector's edition purchase goodbye.

My two cents. Here, wait.. I'll toss in an image attachment you don't want and charge you two dollars instead.

This will be the most I've ever spendt on a game. The runner up being $49.99 US.

I would however gladly pay $100 for a game of this magnitude. And I'm sure I'll get the opportunity to spend more money once the DLC and GOTY editions come out. Hopefully the Artbook becomes available at some point soon after release. While I'm sure that I'll be able to see much of it on the web, it's just not the same at all as having that bound copy. $90 extra is too much for the CE (esp. when I don't want the statue), but $50 would be totally reasonable.

I think that COD should be on the market for around $15-20 since it is essentially an expansion pack. I know it seems insane but a long time ago but many games a few years back had better replay value and longer campaigns (I'm talking about back with the N64 and PS1 generation). Thankfully Skyrim will last a long time. Many other games nowadays don't last that long at all. I even remember completing Gears 2 in about 2.5-3 hours. Not exactly worth what you paid.

All game prices are fair. Price of a 2 hr movie is $10-15 depending on 3D, matinee, etc. Price of the average DVD/Blu-ray is like $15-30. Price of games are $60 (new) now but they offer infinite replay values far greater than movies do.

If games like Skyrim charged you the way theaters do, you'd be spending like $600 just to play a game. Game companies could charge us crazy money to play games, but they don't, and it's great. And this makes piracy all the more stupid when you take that all into consideration.

Now I loved the elderscrolls series since the time I started playing oblivion and checked out the game before that, morrowind.Aand No one can disagree on this; Thay're crazy big games. So then we compare this game to my chosen example, Call of duty. who releaser a new (IMO horrible) game every year. that new game gets little to no added content except for campaign and storyline added opposed to the previous game, and now I go out from PC prising here. THey charge more for their game than skyrim !? that is jsut mad not only because the price for call of duty is redicoulusly high, but also because Skyrims price is rediscoulusly low. Now I don't know if you agree with me here, but with everything that exists in skyrim, and with all the dept in the game, I see it as justifiable by bethesda to charge around 100 $ for a regular copy of theur game. Just sharing my opinion. Sorry for any grammatical errors

What everyone seems to miss is if Bethesda asks for $100 per-game every other developer would follow suite and ask the same. We must keep in mind the consumer and realise that such price hikes are not good for the industry and has the potential to destroy it simply because economic situations of the day will not allow such lavish spending in the name of entertainment. In the long run all developers would feel the aftermath of such a thing and the cost of making video-games will go up simply because everyone involved would want their slice of the wealth, this cost would once again transfer to you the consumer. Leave well enough alone, enjoy what Bethesda has done and if you feel that they deserve more of your money then buy two or even three copies and give them to your closest friends or to strangers I don’t care but keep such potentially destructive ideas to yourself please.

I live in Europe, Sweden to be exact, and most new console games are already roughly $90, and guess what store it is we have and about the only game store in my fairly small city except big electronic chains similar to bestbuy in america? Well it's a Gamestop store although it used to be a "Game" store which I believe is more UK based.

If I compare the price, new pc games are roughly $50 and console games (xbox360 & ps3) are $90, and yes for that price I can almost buy a brand spanking new ATI Radeon 6770 graphics card for my computer or I can almost buy a new xbox360 for the price of two new games. Although not all games are that expensive, for instance when I went in last month to buy Dark souls I saw they had Deus Ex limited edition(including two dlc) for "only" $55, probably because Deux Ex had been out for a couple of weeks.

Sure, I have options like ordering from an online store, one of big ones only charge about $75 + $5 for shipping, which would save me about $10 per game.

I've also checked on the Skyrim collectors edition at my local gamestop store and they want $210 for it.

On PC it's not fair.

There is no royalty to pay for distributing on a PC, unlike what you have on consoles.

70$ and 300h of real gameplay? that's 23 cents an hour of entertainment.

Yes the price is fair, apparently I'm supposed to get it for free, and it can't get any more fair than that.

I wish I had the money to buy the CE. I don't even want half the stuff in it, but I feel like Bethesda needs to be rewarded for even attempting to make this kind of a game. Those who can afford to, why not? Unless you're going to donate that money to a more worthy cause, like fighting world hunger or KIVA... really, I mean these people are bringing to life the world we'd all rather be in. Sure they already have the best jobs in the world, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve a little extra for the amazing passion and effort they put into it.

Even though it's not in my budget, I'm still thinking about getting the CE just on principle.

I live in the Bahamas, games here are already $120 USD, if games in the States did go up to $100 per-game it would cost nearly $200 here which would place it out of the price range of more than 95% of the gamers here, this would translate in the lose in sales of thousands of copies a lose that would translate to millions of dollars. More sadly it would mean the end of gaming for most children in my country simply people will not pay $170 for one game.

lol @ fanboyism and blind hate towards CoD.

1: you're at a skyrim forum, what do you expect a skyrim hater to complain about how much the game svcks ?
2: I have played call of duty plenty of times and actually own most of the call of duty games myself. And how is stating the fact that CoD is a redundant repackaged game that should actually be reffered to as a big expansion blind hate ?
