I'm really sick of that claim about Ulfric. Especially since from the stuff you see in the Creation Kit, he was intended to have more lines which would have helped flesh him out as a more caring a just man, but had to deal with the crap from war as well.
Comments like that try to stereotype people as one dimensional. It's a shame that all that content was left unused... Such as General Tullius saying he actually sympathized with the stormcloaks and their cause, but his loyalties still remained with the empire. The fact that he really didn't want to wage this war, but duty called and forced his hand... would have added so much depth to him.
It's nothing against you in particular, but... well, even from the conversation you hear when you first walk into the stormcloak area, you can tell this guy's not just some powerhungry guy. His second in command sure does seem like one, but Ulfric himself... not so much.
I will say, though, that I'm ticked you can't play both sides against each other as a thalmor agent. My Altmer Mage would have totally done that, and would have worked with Ancano into framing the Archmage and the Master Wizard into doing our work for us, and then coming out on top not only has "heroes", but exposing the Psijic order's location to the Aldmeri. So much that could have been done with an Aldmeri faction option... Such a waste not to include it.

But in the game that is how he comes across to me especially with this looming threat.
You can have more dimensions if you are power hungry but the civil war quest is the worst faction quest in the game and it was not thought out very well.
Also it had been mentioned that Ulfric will turn a blind eye to those who are not Nords being victimized I just had a discussion with some people a few weeks ago about that very subject.
He chooses to wage this war because he is one sighted for control he want to be high king and drive the empire from Skyrim.
But he foes not see that the Thalmor are fueling this war as a distraction so they fan gain a foothold to sound their doom drum and begin their end game and without a world nobody fan control anything they will all be dead.
They need to unite under one banner the empire and the Stormcloaks: I am sure that will never happen and the civil war will be mentioned but it probably will not be mentioned who truly one that battle in the future but I am curious how the empire or whoever whatever group or if its the dragonborn I wonder exactly the events that will stop the Thalmor from breaking the physical world.
