Stupid Looking Helmets

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:48 am

I do not like the option to conceal a worn helmet without losing the benefits of wearing it. If there are no benefits... then just take it off.

Yeah, my desire was for a toggle-view, not actually take off the helmet. Komodo linked to a mod and that seems to do what I want, except for the Novice Mages hood. So If I am am wearing an utterly dorky helmet that clashes with my awesome Falmor armor set and has a nice reduce magicka cost for destruction spells, I can still get the effects, but still look at my character. It works for companion helms too - so I can gaze at the dreamy Marcurio, as we wander the countryside. For a while I had the dwemer helm on him, and it was like going around with a weirdo robot.

I think the helmets are good. Better than the depressing mage hoods in Dragon Age Origins. Skyrim has good mage headwear.

But I have'nt seen them all yet. They all look good and funcitonal to me. They definately look practical and wearable.

Mine always wears something on her head. For protection or to look nice.
Would never go headwearless unless I had no choice.
It does'nt look right to go headwearless in games.

But I can see why you might want a hide helmet option. Very useful when your helmet is bad. My female elven hunter on Lord of The Rings Online is'nt showing her helmet till she gets a better one that does'nt look ridiculous.
It should be there on console games I think.

I too wish there were a toggle helmet option. I don't like they way the dwarven helmet looks. It's already bad enough that wearing the full armour set makes my character look like he put on 90 pounds, but the helmet looks absolutely ridiculous, like something out of a transformers movie.

I'm okay with the Steel Plate helmet, Imperial Officer's Helmet, Wolf Helmet and Blades Helmet. Anything else is meh for me(IIRC).

As much as I still hold to the standpoint that if someone doesn't like the way an element looks in the game, they should download Blender and model their own elements and then mod them into the game, I am forced to ask the question, "Why not allow Helmets to be toggled invisible. This is not like an MMO where everyone sees what other players are wearing (and even MMOs have cosmetic toggle options). This is a single player game that one may play for their own amusemant. Whether they prefer to cheat with console commands, or mod something out, or whatever they prefer to do has absolutely no bearing on anyone's gameplay experience but their own. So why should they be ridiculed for it?

Now I do have to say that any furture cosmetic options that may or may not get added should take an EXTREME back seat to bug fixes and actual gameplay mechanics. But if harmless requests like this can be fulfilled in the process, they should be.
Sir, I would like to thank you for being one of the seemingly few logical humans that play this game. It seems like just about everyone is gung-ho about how they are purists who "play the game as it was meant to be played," but honestly, this is an OPTION. As you said, this won't effect anyone who would choose not to use it.

Precursor give it up. You are arguing with people who argue just for the sake of it. I was talking to some of the people posting here on another thread and it became clear to me that Skyrim is 100% percent perfect in every way according to them and anyone who does not think so is just trolling.

My opinion: I don't want to look at helmets that blow hard. I don't want them on my head. I don't want them on other people's heads. I don't mind them being on the heads of people who are out of my line of sight, I am okay with that.

I am happy for people who like the ghastly hideous headwear to wear them at all times in their game for it is not my game they are playing it is their own. I am not happy for some clown to tell me or anyone else that a feature that would hurt nobody and is completely optional should not be in the game. I've said before there are people who lurk these boards just waiting for something negative to be said about Skyrim so they can fiercely defend it just for the hell of it and increasingly I am convinced it's the vast majority of people on here which really, is kind of sad.
I love you <3 This whole comment seriously needs to be reposted on just about every thread on this damn forum.

Ok, it is an immersion breaker for you. Don't use it. Simple fix. For the people that couldn't give 2 sharts about "immersion" this is a very nice feature to have. How does restricting my gameplay improve yours any? People have tons of Larp Derp rules and limitations in their game, they apply their own rules. This includes but is not limited to using Fast Travel. That option however, does nothing to hamper your game. The more options, the better.
Thanks for the open mind. This forum could use more of them though : /

See a helmet you don't like the looks of? Don't wear it. Nobody's forcing you to wear one. There are always other options. Or a circlet, if you don't like the helms. The perks are for those who are willing to make the Aesthetic Freedom vs. Armor Functionality tradeoff.

In fact, perks like "Matching Set" (Or is it "Custom Fit") is made to reward you for having a consistent appearance, instead of deciding to go look like... that dude from that one Penny Arcade strip.
Dude, lay off. Its an option. TRUST me, the way I play has no effect on your experience. I promise. You can stop trolling the logical people now.

Oh right, thanks for that. Next time my mage puts a hat on that looks like he's got a [censored] sticking out of his head I'll remember it's 'awesome'.

Because the headwear in Skyrim looks awesome.
I'm sorry buddy, but is it a FACT that the headwear looks awesome? Seems like an opinion to me...

I'd sure love an option to hide helmet as well. It's an option available in just about every other RPG out there these days. It wasn't always so- Just a couple of years ago, this same argument was going on the boards of many other games, with pretty much the same arguments being made. By and large, the "yes, provide the option" side won the argument, judging by how many games started to include it.

Bu whatever. I'm on PC, so I can use a mod. I've never asked for anything to be included or kept out of a game that would affect anyoe's gameplay but my own. I really just can't fathom the kind of personality required to argue against something that would have absolutely no effect on the arguer whatsoever. I mean really, what kind of a control freak do you have to be to be so dead set against something that doesn't affect you?

If you get the Arch-Mage outfit you can have both a hood and dragon priest masks.
Yes and No.....sometimes when I wear a Dragon Priest mask with my Arch Mage Robes the mask is not visible. Under the hood is just a black hole.....This is on the 360 however.

I always considered the aesthetics of a piece of equipment to be equivalent to the stats of said equipment.

If it isn't worth wearing, one way or the other, why wear it?

Options, I guess, but it really seems like a slippery slope. Toggle entire equipment then? Skyrim is for the naked Nords!

I remember some older games you could cast invis on your equipment, now that makes sense, but toggling the visual seems pretty cheap imo.

An option to open the faceplate of your helmet(for closed helmets) would be cool but I dont see this feature being added anytime soon.

Sounds good, have always wondered how my Khajiit get her head inside the full helmets.

Trust me it's possible!
I mean just go to the mall and enter a store that sells Jeans.
Sit there for 15 minutes and i promise that you will see a pair of teenage girls trying out jeans that are size XXXXXS and they are size M.
Just sit there and watch them, 6 minutes of struggle and they have the new pair on them :)

You ever seen a wet cat?

Nothing but skin and bones underneath all that fur.

(That is really ripe for euphemism.)

So, wait, you all want a game with 'more consequences,' and then you go and ask for a way to make your helmet invisible because it looks ugly and you want the stats. Make up your minds, people.

Just sit there and watch them

Ask them what they think about 3rd person view.

Preach it. I can't understand the mentality if "I think the armor looks stupid but I want the defensive bonuses. The armor should be invisible!

I want a house to store all my loot, but I don't want to spend the money. I see no reason why actually paying for the houses should be AN OPTION. And remember, if you think it's a dumb idea, well {ahem} let me make sure I get this right here {ahem ahem} uh, "Why are you so concerned? It's a single player game, not an MMO and besides, it would be AN OPTION. More choices are better, and what I do in my game doesn't affect you in yours. Besides, I said the magic words IT'S AN OPTION and so that ends the debate and I win. Go away."

Did I say that right? I've heard the sermon so often I think I can recite it from memory at this point.

I do wonder how Kad'jitts get their ears into helmets. And Argonians get their horns into them.

It seems lazy that the helmets are the same shape apart from the face for all races.

The hats and headwear' change for the races. You can see the kad'jitts ears and argonions horns in hats and headwear.
Admittedly the kad'jitts 3 earrings in each ear disapear with fine hats.

But still, should'nt have been that hard to put in some metal cat ear shapes or earholes and metal horn covers or holes for the horns in the helmets.
The big helmets like the dwemer helmet, I can see there would be enough space to fit cat ears. But still not enough space for argonian hrons.
