Stupid Looking Helmets

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 6:17 am

Anyone here who has played Dragon Age II will probably agree that it wasn't that great of a game, but it did offer one of my favorite gameplay options ever; the ability to show or hide an equipped mask or helmet. Honestly, I hate the look of most of the helmets in Skyrim, so I leave it off because I play in third person. Early on in the game its no big deal, but later on its nice to have the extra enchantments. (Honestly I don't worry about an extra 20-50 or so armor) I think it would be great for Bethesda to implement this same idea. What do you guys think?

Lucky. I hate how most armor, clothes and weapon choices look.

There is a mod for that: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=562

An option to open the faceplate of your helmet(for closed helmets) would be cool but I dont see this feature being added anytime soon.

That would be cool if only for the fact that it would be really realistic. I just feel that i made the character's face the way I like it and the helmets are often REALLY derpy.

Helmets in a lot of games are complete Derp. I too wish there was a toggle helmet view option.

I saw the glass helmet in loading screens and was like "awww yeah I HAVE to get that sh*t!!!!". I got it, equipped it, and it looks like my dude has a tumor coming out of the back of his head.... like really? Also, I wish there were other masks/bandanas or something to pair with hoods. Or at LEAST make other hoods wearable with dragon priest masks.

LOL would if I could. Xbox 360 :( I would hate playing this with a mouse and keyboard because whether people like to admit it or not, Skyrim was designed for a controller. I know you can use a controller on comp, but eeeeh, idk. Hell, console commands alone just might make that worth it.

This is why each armor should have had at least 3 different templates.

I hate the Ebony helmet because it looks like something out of Power Rangers and the Dragonplate helmet just looked odd to me. I do wish there was a toggle helmet on/off as well.

My thing is that I see no reason for every game to NOT have this option. i doubt anyone can find a game where this option wouldn't be welcome. I hope someone at Bethesda sees this and adds the option. On the other hand, I'm sure at least SOME Beth employees have mentioned this idea, but idk.

I'm just glad that the helmets don't have those [censored] goofy looking goggles like they did in Oblivion.

Steel Plate armour looks cool...the winged victory bikie helmet does not.

I think it`s something you should live with. Would you take off a marine helmet just because you didn`t like the look of it and lose the protection you get from it?

Take it off, you lose the benefits- makes sense to me. Helmets aren`t supposed to be pretty either, they`re meant to protect you or look ugly to scare the enemy.

Skyrim on PC with 360 controller is the way to go. It's excellent. The UI is great with a controller, and the controller plays nicely with the PC.

Also: I'm a bit mystified by all the hate on the helmets in this thread. Most of them look fairly realistic. The full-face helmets (steel plate and ebony) look pretty much like real-world helmets from full plate armor, the steel and steel horned helmets are very realistic looking, and the iron helmet is realistic looking too. I'm not as much of a fan of the leather and hide helmets., but they're all right. Elven and Glass certainly look like helmets from a very different culture, but they should look somewhat exotic.

The Dwarven helmet again looks fairly realistic for a full plate helmet as well. The Daedric is, as always, suitable for anybody playing Sauron Jr.

Also, I can't see the logic behind the demands for invisible helmets. If you don't want to look like you're wearing a helmet, don't wear a helmet. Problem solved.

Careful, logic can be unwelcome at times.

If you get the Arch-Mage outfit you can have both a hood and dragon priest masks.

I'd like this feature too, but a lot of favorite armor has cool helmets (Wolf, Iron, Nordic, Blades).

There's an easy option to not seeing helmets: don't wear them. Sure you'll suffer a significant decrease in protection and a good deal of heavy armor perks won't work, but that's what helmets are there for: protection.

I just don't see the point in hiding helmets when they're there for a reason. Feels too Hollywood to me.

People don't want tradeoffs. They want to see their purdy hair AND have the protection of a helmet.

And hell, why stop there? I'd like to have the protection of heavy armor AND be able to wear anything I want, including nothing at all. It's so ridiculous that I can't have invisible armor!

And why do I have to wait to a high level before I have enough perks to be good at one-handed weapons AND two-handed weapons AND heavy armor AND destruction magic AND alchemy AND sneaking AND archery AND enchanting AND alteration? Why can I only spend each perk point once? Why can't I just use it as many times as I like? It's so ridiculous that I have to take time to get perk points, and then I only get to use them for ONE perk!

The tradeoff is pretty unrealistic. You lose set/all item bonuses for not wearing one, instead of just a loss of a helmet armor rating.
