Seems that small patch made my missing characters visible again, still no option to create a new character though.

Hmm weird, I've got the new character option, although I did reinstall my game. My mouse is moving extremely slow in game though.

Did you turn off frameskip? It's on by default now, I had to turn it off manually.

I'm just waiting on TDSM to update their software, then I'll have something up. Hopefully it runs good.

Should I get this game?

I already have Minecraft, but this looks considerably different.

It's completely different. Terraria is basically a 2d platforming hack n slash with Minecraft elements such as crafting, and a sandbox world that is buildable/destroyable.

Just got killed by a boulder trap.

Game is really almost unplayable at the moment for me, my mouse moves like it's in slow motion, and the crafting recipes scroll through soooooooo slow. Turning off frameskip didn't work , thanks though Narmy. Hopefully they get this fixed soon.

I found a Bomb Statue, which I assume has to be activated with a switch. I don't know how to get a wrench or wires though. :(

CACTI NO LONGER DAMAGE PLAYERS!!! <3 I don't have to build bridges over deserts in my annoyance. <3

My characters still aren't showing up, even after the mini-patch. :( I guess I'll have to try and extract them from from my old computer this evening, or just start over.

I start over with a new world and a new character every time there's a content patch. It's nice to see some of the new changes as I progress again, but this time there's the whole endgame to look forward to.

I had similar trouble. Try changing lighting from "color" to "retro" in the video settings.

I will try it, but I'll be annoyed if I have to go back to the old lighting.

Great, I'll try and extract them from the wreckage that is my old PC, then. Thanks. :)

I'd start out with a broadsword, that has more knockback than the shortsword you start with and you swing it in an arc, maybe get a bow as well if you notice that you're running out of health too fast, so you can keep more distance between you and your enemies.

Then just upgrade your weapons and armor from copper > iron > silver ect. when you can (I usually upgrade weapons and tools before armor as they cost less ore to make and provide more bonuses than the early armor types). And try to find treasure-chests and crystal hearts for some more unique weapons and accessories and to increase your total health.

EDIT: I removed one of my 5 old characters and now the option to create a new character returned, not sure if 5 is the cap or that it forced that menu-page to update or something.

In my new world I spawned next to a cave with a chest with a Superior Spear in it. Extra damage, extra knockback. A nice starter weapon. :D

Do Dart Traps not trigger automatically, must they be triggered with wires?

They sadly require wires.
