*scratches head*

This is why I wish Werewolf&Vampire would turn up more often.

Ok, let's put it out really simply now:

- The dwemer made crossbows in the first place
- The imperials remastered them and presumably equipped their arbalists with them
- The craftsman in Dawnguard has supposedly 'created them' from what I've heard

This doesn't make much sense, since the imperial troops should at least be equipped with them still (even if you don't see that in skyrim).
And infact civilians in skyrim are quite viable in the lore to obtain a crossbow without much effort, so this whole 'restriction' is rather.. weird.

Anyone with enough coin to create a suit of plate armour could well of used that coin to purchase and commission additions to a crossbow.
The whole 'Dawnguard are the only ones who specifically have it' sounds like a load of silly bull crap put into play by bethesda headquarters.

Impeials could have had them but I willing to bet beth will say they were lost and rediscovered in the 500 year gap.

You don't just lose that many weapons.

A spell I could understand, what with all them spell tomes being replaced by explosive chickens and all.

But a weapon like a crossbow is not just 'lost.' You'd have to be an idiot to forget about something as noticeable as them.

What is this crossbow argument? You called, Daroska?.

All I can say is this: The game world and the lore world are two different things that are within each other's range. The game world is a limited, smaller version of the real lore surrounding the Elder Scrolls. Crossbows have been around for ages in the Elder Scrolls. Steel, Dwemer and etc were used in the Third Era. Just because they never appeared in Oblivion does not mean they do not exist. Likewise for werebears in Skyrim or spears.

Think of New York City and a Spiderman or Grand Theft Auto game. The city is much larger in real life and offers much more tangible content than the game would represent. Elder Scrolls is no different. Vvardenfell is massive, so is the Imperial City, but the game is a shadow compared to the "true" magnitude of things.

If you don't become a vampire, you can't return to the Soul Cairn. And also, that makes the choice of joining which side more based on which side you want to help rather than what toys you can play with.

Actually, you can. And for some reason, on my vamp character, I couldnt return. Could be because I cured it, but I got it again, and still no go.

Wait wait wait 500 years? 200 years since Oblivion, and I don't remember the gap between Morrowind and Oblivion but Uriel was Emperor in both (well at the start of OB anyway), and he was already quite old in Morrowind.

So... were crossbows lost during the Oblivion crisis?

Weapons such as crossbows don't simply vanish through time. If made sense if they evolved, but completely vanish? Nay! The gap between Morrowind and Oblivion was twenty years or so, I believe. Correct me if I am wrong.

Yea Im saying gap from Morrowind to Skyrim.

That's what I mean, it cannot be 500 years, Uriel Septim lived 87 years, he was alive for both Morrowind and Oblivion, and Oblivion was 200 years prior to Skyrim, so as W&V said it was about 20 years, so a 220 year gap between Morrowind and Skyrim.

So... the only people who knew how to make them were in Morrowind, we'll say... and erm... they were cut off by the crisis... then Morrowind exploded, all crossbows lost... because the empire never kept schematics... or the Daedra were really specific in targetting crossbow makers and all info on crossbows or something.

...Yeah it doesn't really make sense.

Is it 200 my bad 500 was stuck in my head lol

Things fall out of favor for the sake of mass production for armies.

But everyone being in morrowind is just dumb.

What aspect of it seems jokey? It's serious.

It just doesn't make any sense.

Who cares if the Dawnguard accept you as a VL after you've finished the questline? I'd be more upset if they didn't.

Hell, Serana, the Vampire daughter of the antagonist, has just helped a group of Vampire slayers kill her own dad and save the world from an affect that could only have benifited her. If that doesn't prove to the Dawnguard that all Vampires aren't saddistic [censored]s, and that some can be genuinely good people, nothing will. If your character wants to become a VL after saving the world, then use those powers to hunt other Vampires, there's no reason for Isran to care.

An undead lycanthropic vampiric dragon with earplugs you say? that sounds prosperous.

I have to agree here to it makes no sense. And if this is true then I should be able to get all the new spells from just doing the vampire side.

It doesn't really matter?

I mean, what's the point of being a vampire lord without the rings, necklaces, blood cup thing? No free cattle to feed on.

If it bother you that's it there, then don't use it?

It's not like the Dawnguard get much from it if they decide to get the Vampire Lord.

This. Lets not forget none of the dawnguard npc's will speak to you as well until you get yourself cured honestly if I make a DG character I will never take that option cause to me it does not make much sense to become a vampire lord and be a part of a vampire hunting group lets not forget the previous dawnguard got ruined because they thought they could use vampirism to combat vampires.
