The Thalmor deserve better

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 1:04 am

I believe that the Thalmor have the right idea as far as ruling Tamriel goes. They have proven to be the most organized and powerful governing body in all of Tamriel. They brought the Empire down, and now almost everyone is forced to follow their orders. I believe that a strong and ruthless governing body would be most effective given the history of TES. I think that all of the city states should belong to the Thamlor.

I'm in the minority about who I support but I stand by it. Stand with us and prosper, stand against us and die.

No, no, no. What you're asking for is discrimination, subjugation, totalitarianism, despotism from a singular race and perhaps slavery of every non-Altmer in existence. The elves once thought they could control man, what they got was an uprising from those who were tired of living under the boot of oppression.

The Thalmor doesn't deserve the submission from the people of Tamriel. They deserve the blades, bows and magic from their defiance instead.

based on what i can understand of the confusing lore, Talos is the last 'living' god. If his worship is completely wiped out, reality will unravel, and the universe will restart. THAT IS THE THALMOR PLAN! They want to destroy everything because they are convinced they are gods made mortal! They even claim to have been put on a continent called Aldmeris after being made mortal, BUT ALDMERIS NEVER EXISTED! They are a bunch of arrogant, xenophobic, supremacist, xenocidal, LIARS!

Since when should might make right, even in a medieval world? The progress of a government should be represented by the progress of its morality, and the Thalmor have proven that while they do wield considerable military power, their policies of racial discrimination are far from ideal.
That's a very subjective thing. Whose morality do we judge by?

And not directed at the quoted forumite but everyone in the topic, when you speak about racism, are you against all forms of it or just the type you consider bad?

The only thing the thalmor deserve is my boot up their rear they are stuck up bastards that belieave they are better then every other race they want to force what they belieave on the other races and if you dont follow every single one of their rules they will kill you or put you in one of their prisons so in short they can screw off and wait till we get the dlc to kill everyone of those cowards.

I don't care what the Thalmor are up to. I'm perfectly willing to stop murdering them and leaving their corpses dotting the landscape, as soon as they quit sending death squads after me.

They're not lying. They actually believe that. They're wrong, but that doesn't mean they're not telling the truth as they see it.

I do have to wonder if our good friend Sheogorath had a hand in the Thalmor's creation.

The Thalmor are probably weaker then they would like the empire to believe. Elves breed slowly and they've killed a lot of their own people as dissidents and shooed others out of the areas they control. They have to be hurting for soldiers. They haven't been the dominant culture since the Nords conquered Tamriel. They are provoking the civil war by co-opting and manipulating people in Skyrim, and acting like the Spanish Inquisition in order to breed rebellion against the Talos part of the treaty (because if worshipping Talos had no downside -- nudge nudge wink wink -- it wouldn't provoke a rebellion. They need to weaken the empire so that they have a chance when the war comes. Taking Skyrim away from the empire would do it.

The empire can't move against them ... yet, but what they should do is create a new blades like organization to work against the Thalmor, making their operations in Skyrim dangerous (or lethal) but without a definitely tie to the government. Luckily they have the dragonborn who in my play through (and many others) are killing Thalmor at every opportunity in as great a number is possible.

I expect public transportation runs on time in their dominion though! Curious that the Star Trek Dominion is a similarly fascist arrogant culture to the the Thalmor's dominion isn't it? I wonder if that's why they called them a dominion?

@ carbon_dragon

without the soldiers of skyrim there is no imperial army, not really... they lost the redguard and are still rebuilding alliances there and if they want to stand a snowballs chance in heck of survival they'll have to reevaluate the way that the empire is formed and what it stands for, and do it quick like accepting the terms of the white-gold concordant and not hesitate for even a minute in the face of the Aldmeri Dominion who is only waiting for a sign of weakness.

I don't want an on-time horse cart because the driver is afraid he'll be hog-tied and french fried for being late and making his profession look bad to the inquisitor sent to manage him... I'd rather he was drunk and laughing and singing obnoxious songs like ragnar the red the whole way from the imperial city to solitude because he loves his job and seeing the empire he is a part of.

Dude. DUDE. You gotta get your facts straight.
1)You were going with the Stormcloaks to be executed because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
2) Churchill was a highly decorated army officer and veteran of multiple bloody campaigns before becoming the Prime Minister and that's why he was a brilliant strategist. BECAUSE he was a natural born warrior.

And my two cents: the Thalmor are a bunch of fascist, racist (specist?) dikeweeds that deserve every bit of steel and fire I give them!

1. So a just empire has the right to execute someone who is not even on the wanted list without a trial.
2. If you can call a war journalist a natural born warrior go ahead.

In the world of Tamriel, I truley do believe in the Thalmors cause. (This is NOT my opinion of people in real life)

They want to wipe the weak out and bring structure to the world. Given all the problems that Tamriel faces (Oblivion crisis, dragons and daedric princes) I think this is the best course of action. The means justify the end, and the Thalmor don't want to achieve this through genocide but through political manuevering. They are talented warriors/marksmen/mages and brilliant strategists...which puts them in the unique position to take command of Tamriel. I'm sorry but given the disorganized fashion of EVERYTHING in Skyrim, their cause is just.

As far as rebellion goes, a tyrannical type of government must deal with every uprising with brutality. Its better to be feared than well liked.

I'm not saying everyone has to be of Altmer descent, but the weak should remain weak and be used as fodder while the strong survive and better the world. Key fact in this world of Tamriel is if you're seen to be weak and actually aren't, you can prove everyone wrong and become part of the elite.

Too bad then, Shor always crushes uprisings that upset the balance of nature. As I have said before, a Shezzarine will be born every time, and they will be crushed. Kind of hard to be "the dominant race" when there's a god that won't allow it.

I'm not saying that the Altmer will become the dominant race. I just believe that given their natural abilities and talents they should be in a position of leadership, with others races on the board to advise them. The final decision however should rest in the hands of the best and strongest.

That's what Hitler thought. By what you say then it's the Sload that should rule Tamriel. They hold dominance in every way against the Altmer, the only reason why they don't rule is because they don't care to. There's a reason why the Altmer can only successfully [maybe not even compltely] rule Summerset Isle and nowhere else. You put a Thalmor underwater with an Argonian warrior and the Argonian will have the advantage. It's simple logic: If they were the dominant race and deserved complete dominion they would have it already. The truth is they're not entitled, they're not dominant, and very soon, they'll be crushed again.

Every fight has its advantages and disadvantages, I'm not too familiar with lore. From what I've seen the Thalmor do possess the skills to come out on top in most fights. The Thalmor soldiers are the best equipped in the game. They can come at you with lighting or with a glass bow & arrow if they please. Even if you come in close they have some of the best light armor available.

Its clear that their logistics are far more advanced than any other armies to equip their army with top of the line gear. While imperial soldiers have...skirts, and the stormcloaks look to have some chainmail with leather padding. Bottom line is the Thalmor are the elite in terms of inteligence, magic, ranged combat and close combat. In my opinion that entitles you rule. Life in Tamriel isn't about equal rights, but survival of the fittest.

So... you're saying that your opinion overpowers lore because you don't know the lore that well. The lore says they can NEVER be dominant, so therefore they are obviously not fit to be so.

Let me simplify it more for you: The Thalmor believe in a pillar-like system [why they chose pillars is beyond me]. Each pillar represents an event in time: The Numidium, The Oblivion Crisis, and eventually the return of the dragons. In their religion, Auri-El [Akatosh], created the Altmer in the heavens to live among the gods. In his "only known time of weakness", he participated in the creation of Nirn and was forced to exile the Altmer to live among men. According to the legend, Auri-El went with them in their exile, and left them on Nirn "in such a way that the Altmer can follow in the future". Now, Auri-El is a dragon. The Thalmor work to bring back the dragons in Skyrim because that means the world ends, and they get to go back to live among the gods. Unfortunately for them, however, Shor says no, and just like with Shezzarines Pelinal Whitestrake, the Nerevarine and the Champion of Cyrodiil, the Dovahkiin stopped them in their tracks.

Pretty armor, tactics and magic mean nothing when the will of a god is against you.

I don't think you're getting it. The Thalmor don't just want to dominate "lesser" races. They want to eliminate them. All of humanity. Even from the possibility of existing.

I'm beginning to think you're trolling.

Supporting the Thalmor is basically supporting the end of TES. There wont be a TES if all non-Altmer races are destroyed. Besides most Altmer themselves are against the Thalmor. I bet a lot of them are just supporting it out of fear.

That's what the theory of Evolution says. It don't mean they'll rule forever, but I'm with you on that they deserve to be the dominant faction in Tamriel currently.

Are you telling me Akatosh is trying to destroy the world? This is the biggest bull...t I ever seen in the lore of Skyrim. Akatosh created Alduin, Pathnx as well as Dovakiin and all the Gods. If anyone is going to end it, it should be Akatosh, although I don't seem to recollect any reasoning behind why he would.

Hopefully in DLC we get to drive these guys out. These guys are the real enemies, but I'd say not matter what we do in Skyrim in TES6 the story will probably be that the Aldmeri Dominion invades Skyrim shortly after the civil war officially ends and takes out (Insert Legion or Stormcloaks here) and officially takes it over. Then the Imperial Legion goes to full scale war against the Dominion which will probably go on for a few years, the Legion will eventually win and take back Skyrim and other Dominion occupied lands. Most likely this will be lore in TES6 if it takes place 100+ years after Skyrim or it will be the story of the game. Either way I can't see a faction thats been in almost everygame not to mention having its logo on 2 game boxarts losing to a random faction that appeared out of nowhere.

Close.
Talos is the enantiomer, the mirror-brother, of Lorkhan.
The story of his life, of his ascension, so closely mirrors the story of Creation that there literally is no difference, apart from size.
This road to heaven is called the Walking Way, when you walk the walk of a god until they must walk like you.
The existence of Talos fortifies the Wheel of Creation, strengthens the world, because it is a repeat, an affirmation, of creation.

The Thalmor desire to return to Anu, to escape what they see as the prison that is the world and return to the godhood of before.
The Dwemer tried the same thing, only they wanted to turn their entire race into a big stompy robot-god.
The Thalmor are trying to uncreate the entire world.
Removing Talos from the mythic awareness is the first step. His removal will weaken the Wheel and allow the Thalmor to remove man from Tamriel, so Talos can never come back.

Aldmeris is Tamriel.

I play Bosmer and Altmer and my pcs never support the dominion which is why they're in Skyrim fighting against injustice. The Thalmor is akin to Nazi ruled Germany. They want to dominate, enslave and rule everyone else because of this preconceived notion that they are the superior race. Are they? Absolutely not and just to prove it, my Bosmer will start killing every Thalmor she sees. She gets them riled up until they attack and then wipes their smug looks of their faces.

As I understand Tamriel was fine without Tiber Septim ever being god. You sound even more of a mystic than the Thalmors themself. Alduin came to the world because some idiot of a Nord who didn't know what he was doing, sent him in to the future using the Elderscroll. I can't believe people are trying to blame the Thalmors and the 8 divine pact to what is currently going on in Skyrim. Yes they may have started the civil war, but if the empire didn't rule Skyrim from the nords in the first place, it would have never happened.

The ascension of Talos fortifies creation, it does not enable it.
Its a wheel within a wheel, or, a mandelbrot pattern. You know, those things you find on t-shirts that are mathematical diagrams where the large structure is the same shape as all the smaller structures that build it.
It is an affirmation, a cosmic 'yes'.

To unbind the dragon first creation must be put in a state that will allow it.
Like when you want to blow up a building, you attack its foundations, load bearing walls, not just the roof.
