The Thalmor deserve better

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 7:30 pm

Since when should might make right, even in a medieval world? The progress of a government should be represented by the progress of its morality, and the Thalmor have proven that while they do wield considerable military power, their policies of racial discrimination are far from ideal.
Every nation starts like that. What alternative do you suggest? Knocking on their door and politely asking them to submit to your laws?

The only thing the Thalmor deserve is a swift death.

No, they deserve long, drawn out deaths at the hands of ravenous draugr

But let me add some facts in the stupi evil thing. They are worst than stupid. They're suicide. They want to destroy the world itself for ascending to the god-thing. The Dwemer did that and they just disappeared! Altmers will have the same end, at all?
What's even more stupid, is that Alduin is here to destroy the world, yet they do nothing to support it.

I mean. Really. You have the World-Eater who wants to destroy the world as much as you. Even if he spits on your face, you'd at least make sure he reaches his goal

They tried their best to destroy the world, but when the chance shows up, they spat on its face.

When playing a Mer, supporting them would make some sense, but the fact remains that the way the Thalmor go about their plan is http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StupidEvil.
OMFG, the first thing that popped into my mind (before I clicked that link) was the D&D Alignment system. Chaotic Evil to be sure.
For those not familiar with the old D&D Alignment I'll sum up the evil reference:
Demons: Chaotic Evil
Devils: Lawful Evil

But I would be happy to find a DLC/ new elder scrolls where you fight the thalmor. xD
You know that will be a later TES. Maybe the first TES MMO? FWIW: I don't like MMOs, but I can see that one being an MMO.

Actually, they didn't want alduin to appear just yet. If alduin ends the world before they can completely remove talos or kill off mankind, then the world will be reborn again with all the same problems they had last time.

They don't want alduin to undo the world until Talos has lost all mythological significance, and the races of men are extinguished.

They have to first unmake the pillars of Mundus, or else the pattern of mortal creation could repeat itself. I gather that Alduin showing up is premature for their plans.

But in the process of destroying the world, Alduin is actively killing off men. The Thalmor could have used this to their advantage? After all, Alduin is pretty much confined to Skyrim at the time, and Summerset Isle and Valenwood are too far for Alduin to think about at the time.

On a side note, while the Thalmor wants to kill off men, do they want to kill off the other races too? (Tsaesci, Sload, etc)

Not to mention openly attacking people for their religious views, on foreign soil.

I kill most rude characters on site that I am able to. Thalmor are pretty high on the list....

Oh hell no. They always try to kill me when I tell them I'll worship who ever I please. With Jordis the Shield Maiden as back up, all they can do is "try"! :D

Yeah, Stupid Evil is just slightly different from Chaotic Evil in that Chaotic Evil types still usually have a sense of self-preservation.

"All of the religions that have commited atrocities against mankind have been founded on love."

~ Anton Szandor LaVey ~

Man's got a point. That's the Banolity of Evil. The greatest atrocities in history have been commited by "normal, decent, everyday people" thinking they're doing "normal, decent, everyday things". Nobody thinks they're a monster, yet meaning well doesn't absolve anyone of guilt.

I think I still have my COS membership card somewhere. Still, the greatest thing about LaVey's Satanism is also it's biggest problem: It encourages individualism and thinking for yourself, so eventually you end up seeing no reason to associate with other Satanists, since you have nothing in common with them. So I kind of lapsed, and ended up not missing them that much. It doesn't help that the older I get, the more I dislike Objectivism, which was rather influential in LaVey's philosophy.

I believe that the Thalmor have the right idea as far as ruling Tamriel goes. They have proven to be the most organized and powerful governing body in all of Tamriel. They brought the Empire down, and now almost everyone is forced to follow their orders. I believe that a strong and ruthless governing body would be most effective given the history of TES. I think that all of the city states should belong to the Thamlor.

I'm in the minority about who I support but I stand by it. Stand with us and prosper, stand against us and die.

So your ideal government is an intolerant autocracy that trammels the belief and freedom of the people under its rule? You ought to emigrate to Iran.

It's just the schtick of some people to root for and write apologia for the factions that are meant to be so unambiguously evil that they practically have "We're THE BAD GUYS"-neonsigns above their heads. I could sort of understand that with the Enclave in FO3, since they could counceivably have the usual "decent, everyday people" view of what they're doing. But the Thalmor are just doing throwing-puppies-into-woodchipper type stuff without even trying to hide it. It's kind of hard to see why you would want to root for them, except to appear "edgy" or something...

Kill everything that isn't them, and then destroy the world itself. Sorry OP, but i just can't support that

Pretty much this, i'd rather have the Empire to be honest.

A deliberate provacation to gather responses. Looks like it worked. Might as well say, "Let the Nazis rule- now who's with me?"

Just men. Men reinforce the idea of mortality and the idea of creation.

Thalmor are trying to undo reality by stopping the worship of a god...they deserve a quick yet painful death.

Don't they also kill off Mer they consider impure (or enslave them for a time if they have a purpose for them)? Which would include the orcs and elves living outside Alinor, wouldn't it?

The whole Thalmor belief is that they can regain godhood by destroying Nirn. In their lore, Auri-El, their version of Akatosh, created the Altmer in the heavens to live among the gods. But in "his time of great weakness", he was forced by the other divines to cast the Altmer out into Nirn to live among men. They believe the only way to get back is to destroy Nirn and all living in it.

I'm sure you didn't know that. I don't think I need to say anything else.

They are not fond of Dunmer, Bosmer, and definitely not the disgusting Falmer. I don't hate the Altmer. Just their government.
