I don't understand what's wrong with it, personally, I love the new UI. Much better than Oblivion.

Pre-ordered PC version but still waiting for delivery (damn Royal Mail), but I am starting to get a little worried. Been looking forward to this game for ages but is the PC version really this bad?

you know darnified ui in oblivion, some of the mods for oblivion has taken years to test and develop before a final version was released, bethesda cant afford that luxury they have a deadline thats why mods will always be better, because they have time on their side and players willing to test them out.

I agree the mouse controls was pretty bad without the ini tweaks and the hud is to simple, nothing short of what oblivion was before patches, dont worry when the creation kit arrives you will see.

Aww, I just started using the hotkey in oblivion! Oh well.
Hot keys can still be setup you just favorite the items then go into the Q menu and assign the items to numbers for the hot keys (1-0) then in game simply pressing that button equips those items to your hands.

Also the UI interface has already been updated - after installing the latest update my interface is actually working properly now - and can now navigate the menus pretty easily using the mouse like it was designed. (guess something went wrong in the initial release that broke it but they have already patched it up !

quit complaining dont play if you dont like it

But it's ok for you to complain about people complaining about legitimate things? gg hypocrite. You must be every company's wet dream, never complain about anything no matter how shoddily you're treated. You and your ilk epitomize what people like P.T. Barnum were talking about.

And yes, it is the worst PC UI of all time. Thanks for nothing gamesas.

set something as your favorite, then open the favorite list and shift + 1 , 2.3.4..5.6. ect binds that favorite weapon/spell/armor to the key.

What?? I am starting to really get confused as to where people are getting this whole hotkey / interface been [censored]e topic from... Up or down on D-pad brings up favourites? is that what people are whining at, because i see nothing wrong with it, it is simple to use. Or are people complaining at something else?

UGH! why the hell cant he voice his opinion without these kind of [censored] replies? He makes a good point.. there is far too much hand gymnastics involved in selecting weapons, looting and invent management.

hand gymnastics lol

I agree, the interface isn't as great as I had hoped. Its just something we will all have to get used to.

Having played an enjoyable Oblivion in the past, I thought id buy Skyrim.
Everything was fine, looked good and everything. The charecter creation was not so bad.

But then i experianced the UI. Ugh!.. i haft too agree. Dont like it much. It is like running around in paradise with a big iron lump around your leg.
Was going to write a long list of things.. But to try and sum it up.. I read that the Apple gave inspiration for the Ui... And its just this.. something like that, dont belong in a RPG game.. It is just too sleek and minimalistic.. I like seeing my items in a giant bag, and not like a wall of dull plain text...
Too sleek/modern.. Too little functionality. Too little information, is it 2hand or 1hand?.. bad overview of my spells and everything. It reminds me alot of Dragon age 2s UI..

Was going to complain about lack of hotkeys aswell
But just discovered, that once something is in the favorites, you can bind them with 1-9 keys.. Pheww... thought id have to open favorites every time, to change anything, or use potions..
While this is good... It could still be loads better.

To be honest - the intercace is so anoying that I even don't feel like playing anymore. What the hell did you think when you were designing this?

This.

I mean it's so bad that I actually managed to alt + tab and close the game while trying to figure out wtf menu to open.

Is it really THAT hard to tweak our controls so 1-9 are our hotkeys? Or to fix our damn Y-axis? Or to make it so I hit E to open a container and hit E to close it back up?

I honestly haven't had any issues with the interface. The mouse is a bit too sensitive for my taste in the menus and every so often the click detection is dodgy, but I love the layout and look of the menus themselves and they work great using the keyboard. The default control setup wasn't that bad either; I only ended up rebinding two keys (changed Sprint to Shift and Magic Favorites from P to C). I do wish I could bind a couple of things to my Mouse 4 & 5 buttons natively, though.

Aesthetics wise, yes, the Skyrim UI is much better. It's attractive and readable.

For USE, however, it's kinda terrible. It clearly expects you to use an XBox 360 controller and the keybindings are not entirely intuitive. I had to rebind a lot of the keys because there were issues straight through the beginning game tutorial with it not working in an expected manner. For example, why is it when I open a container with one key, I have to close it with another? Why can I not 'back out' of a menu, for instance, spells, and return to the main crosshair menu (this ensures that I have to close and then reopen the menus altogether to go to a different one).

The worst thing thus far, though, is the fact that the RIGHT and LEFT keys for selecting items in the menu and assigning them to hands are BACKWARDS. It is extremely difficult to assign a left hand weapon/spell with the RIGHT SIDE mouse and vice versa. I know I can probably change that in keybindings, but seriously. Did anyone actually playtest this game for the PC?

It's not too bad, but the keys for selling stuff and putting it into containers are different, which is a bit counter-intuitive after being used to FO..

There are hotkeys! :D All you have to do is add your desired weapons and spells to Favorites. Open Favorites, highlight the desired piece of gear or spell and press your desired hotkey of 1-8 (I haven't tried 9 or 0 yet). If you have a spell hotkeyed, you can even quickly switch between dual-wielding the spell or not (I haven't tried it with weapons yet; I only have one mace currently).

The game itself is really really good. It's just got a dumb down Console interface. After about 12 hours of playing now I'm kind of getting more used to it so it's not as annoying but still it's a bit clunky.
It's definitely not a game breaker or anything for me.

Don't, really just don't, I tried played this with the pad and interface is, without wanting to risk hyperbole, about a million times worse than the mouse and keyboard version. There's only 2 hotkeys on the console so *pause* it comp *pause* letely *pause* breaks the *pause* flow *pause* of *pause* the *pause* combat *pause*

It's substantially worse than Dragon Age was on the console and that was a complete mess. The PC version is probably a 10/10 even with the issues but the console one is more like a 6/10.

What's really a pity is whoever designed the control interface is just plain spiteful, you can't use control pad + keyboard (which would be ideally suited here), you can't redefine keys, there are buttons sitting unused on the controller for the desperately needed hotkeys and you can't use X-padder as it randomly swaps buttons around on the mouse and keyboard version. Whoever designed the interface HATES gamers and isn't going to let anyone play this comforably.

Honestly I feel like that's not too far off the mark. I get the feeling that some user experience designer who's not a gamer came in and said "Look, the way everyone has been playing games for twenty years is WRONG. I'm going to change all the buttons and menus around to make it the way it should be. And we shouldn't make it customizable because even though they will complain and hate it at first, in time they will realize that my design is superior and every other game is wrong, and they'll never want to go back!" And then he promptly took all the playtest feedback saying it was terrible and burned it to save his job.

You obviously haven't rebound F, R, Tab, Y or N... Try rebinding those then come back.
