The worst PC gaming interface award goes to ... SKYRIM!

There is nothing wrong with the UI. I use the mouse to navigate through it all the time. Can't dual wield spells with mouse? You must have a bug because I can.

Well, that's weird, I guess it must be glitched then, but I am not the only one.

Might I direct you back to this post everyone keeps ignoring:

Just to clear something up - if you check the PC support forums MANY users are finding their mouse simply doesn't work in the inventory or menu screens. This is why some people are like "huh, dunno what everyone's moaning about" while others are seething with incoherent rage. It's buggy

There is a lot of "really devoted fan denial" in this post. I understand you all have been waiting for this game for many years.. as I have. BUT this game's UI is simply terrible. How will anything get changed if people keep arguing against the obvious? Play the game on xbox and come back to PC. It's hard to see what changes they made.. at all.. other then a crappy control port where you have to guess wether or not it's time to click or press enter.

Like cmon Bethesda.. really?

I can see why people who can't use a mouse would hate the UI, and it's taken a little getting used to. But I find it quite intuitive once learned.

I would without a doubt trade Skyrim's UI for Oblivion's or Morrowind's. This is on PC, of course.

I agree, the UI is horrible, it was WAY better in Oblivion (even if that was a console port also) and morrowind.
Sure it may work "perfectly", as in do as intended, but that does not change the fact that it is horrible while using a mouse and keyboard, and no I am not getting a xbox/ps3 controller because I find them to beh the suxxor.

Bethesda please fire your UI guy or get another one that can make a PC UI.

Seriously, after one hour with the new UI, nearly every misgiving I had just... floated away. Once you get keyboard controls memorised properly, it's incredible efficient to use.

I prefer Oblivion's UI, but Skyrim's isn't that bad once you get used to it.

Mouse works fine for me. Be sure to get that ini fix for the mouse lag and v-sync stuff. It's somewhere around here or at the hardware section. It does improve it a lot.

I'm just using my 360 controller until Bethesda or a modder improves it, it's like playing the 360 version but with better graphics and shorter load times.

Character creation is bugged, as you has to center the slider before you can use it, as in bad console port. Graphic settings don't have this problem as it's only for pc.
Except for this I don't like the shopping interface however this would be equal bad on console with the exception that click is buy.
Would prefer Fallout 3 shopping cart system.

yes and as I understand modifying key binding is for default buttons is bugged.

Read the post right above yours. Seems a modder has improved it...

Scumbag OP...

Looks forward to a game for months/years he can't wait to play... Complains about it the first chance he gets.

I understand you may not like certain things and that is totally fine, but what gets is why you feel the need to post it. It's not that I care that it's negative, it's just when I see an entirely new thread like this it makes me think you're just whiny and not adding anything constructive. I dislike stuff in life too, but why do people feel the need to [censored] about it? Narcissism perhaps? I honestly don't know.

Any, OP. I hope you are enjoying the game despite the interface issues. I truly mean that.

Best,

A forum friend.

its allright.

why did they take out your player image from the inventory screen? you cant see item changes in real time anymore.

i liked the old menu better where you could see your item and then hold down the quick slot fly wheel. now its more cumbersome. i guess to better show off the item models. someone will mod this for sure. es4 had some great ui mods

My only real complaints with the UI are the favorites system and navigating perks.

1. Give me a hotkey system. I have over 100 keys on my keyboard. It's a PC game, let me use those damn keys

2. My mouse works fine in game, but navigating the perks is still annoying as hell. Let me view an entire perk tree, and see what each perk does simply by hovering over it with the mouse.

Yes, I am fully aware of the fact that this is a console game ported to the PC but Bethesda, you've made millions off PC gamers over the years. Please show a little more appreciation for those of us who have been playing Elder Scrolls for decades and give us a REAL PC UI. This console UI is a blatant slap in the face to a demographic that was your exclusive market for many years. For those of us in that demographic, this is a small yet persistent thorn in the side of an otherwise excellent game.

Skyrim's UI is vastly superior to Oblivion's UI as far as I'm concerned. Oblivion's system, with it's tabbed menus (and tabs within tabs) was the worst UI I have ever seen.
for pc users?? i don't think so. Oblivion was a [censored], but Skyrim is far worse...and don't frget the combat system....0 sense of hitting an enemy, 0 physics in combat...a total crap!

This is my only issue with the game so far.. bad UI.
BUT... every Bethesda game I end up modding the UI first thing. Its something that can be fixed or modded very easy.

You don't play many ports then thats for sure.

Agreed.

I think everyone is overreacting about the UI. Yes, its not ideal, and I'm waiting for a UI mod, but I can live with it fine for the moment. Its okay when you get used to it.

u are right...i repeat, maybe the way is stop buying their game, in add they lying to us, for rise hype they said PC users will have all the care, Syrim will be more PC friendly of Oblivion, A LIE; this is far worse than Oblivion. no binding option is a total fail.
but hey, they can't release a Dermo for us...guess why?

I don't know if you guys noticed but skyrim's controls aren't optimized for the PC, it's really meant to be played with the Xbox controller so that is why i'm getting it on my Xbox.

And this is why I wont be buying it at all, despite the fact that I have been waiting and wishing for this game for months.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

I'm not saying Skyrim's menu system is perfect but at least, for me, navigating menus in Skyrim doesn't give me near-carpel-tunnel syndrome (I play at 2560x1600 and it can take some serious mouse movement across the desk to move my cursor from a menu tab, to an item in my inventory, to the "Yes" button on a message box, back to my inventory, ect, ect).

Skyrim's combat system has nothing to do with this topic.
