I'm sure I won't preorder it, since I never do for games, but I do expect to be playing this one. I like the first one, and then I heard there would be a sequel... well, I hope it will live up to the standards the first would lead one to expect.

I say ME2 and Bioshock 2.
I wish I had enough money to get both but it looks like I'll be getting the collectors edition of Bioshock 2.

It's been a while but here we go.
You can now prepurchase from http://store.steampowered.com/ and they also are offering a free copy of Bioshock. If you already have it then you can gift it to someone. So if you already have Bioshock and plan to get the 2nd from Steam, anyone want to gift it to me? :P But seriously...
Only three more weeks guys.

That 4 pack is tempting, $33 each for BioShock and BioShock 2.

Damn, I need friends.

Will the PC version of Bioshock have horrendous DRM or require Steam? I think if it requires either I'll just not buy it. I love Steam and what not, but too many games on it really restricts my ability to play.

It won't require Steam, but the DRM is on the heavy side:

Initial installation requires one-time internet connection; Ability to save game, earn achievements, receive title updates and online play requires log-in to Games for Windows LIVE; software installations required including Microsoft Visual C++2008 Runtime Libraries, Games for Windows LIVE client, Games for Windows LIVE Client Patch, Sony DADC SecuROM, Microsoft DirectX.

They're extremely lucky I want this game so badly. :meh:

I will not rush out to get it. I'll wait until I can pick it up used.

While Bioshock was a beautifully rendered game, I found it lacking as a work on the whole. It was a one-play-through wonder. There was little to no variation in what you could choose to do or what ends you could seek. I'd not pay full retail for it in hindsight, and it left me with a "meh" attitude towards its sequel...especially with how it ended.

Just a heads up to anyone considering the BioShock 2 Four-Pack:

1) When you buy the four pack, all 3 copies of the original BioShock might not show up in your gift window. Restart Steam and then they'll all show up.

2) If you're the person actually buying the pack, you won't have access to your own copy of BioShock until Valve issues a fix. All four copies will show up in your gift window instead of adding one to your account - you can't gift it to yourself at the moment. Looks like this has been fixed.

There were THREE copies/versions of the original Bioshock?

No, it's a pack containing one game for you and three to give away to friends.

Little update on the DRM in BioShock 2

On Wednesday we reported that the Steam pre-order site for BioShock 2 showed that the upcoming first person shooter sequel would have a 15 machine activation limit. Later the Steam page changed to show a much smaller five machine limit for the game. Now publisher 2K Games has given the final word on the matter and its good news for gamers and consumers.

According to a post on the game's message board by 2K Games's community manager, "We are using SecuROM only as a disc check method for the retail copy of BioShock 2. That is its only use." That means the game will have no limits on how many PCs it can be installed. Indeed, the Steam web site page for the game has now removed any mention of machine activations for the game.

Little update on the DRM in BioShock 2

http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/01/21/bioshock-2-no-activation-limits-for-pc-version/

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/97649-BioShock-2-DRM-Explained still claims, citing a 2K Games employee, that there's a 15 activation limit--just through Games for Windows Live, not SecuROM. SecuROM will only be used for a disc check. (And apparently won't exist in the Steam version? Since any mention of SecuROM is gone from the storefront page.)

Steam's storefront also lists this among the game's other requirements: "Ability to save game, earn achievements, receive title updates and online play requires log-in to Games for Windows LIVE."

Now why you'd need or want to use GfWL on top of Steam is another conundrum entirely.
