Would you mind putting those instructions in spoiler tags in the OP? I have a feeling I'll need it when I come to install technic

12. Open up the folder you just created (eg D:\Program Files\Minecraft Technic\TekkitInstaller), double click on Tekkit_Installer (Executable Jar File)

There is a jar file inside the zip file.

when unzipped the "Tekkit_Installer" file is a winrar file, not a jar. and even when unzipping that there is no .jar in any of its folders.

Steps 9-11 you extract the zip into the install folder, and the folder created there (TekkitInstaller) has the jar within it.

Sounds like your unzipping program is causing problems. What software are you using to unzip. Both windows built in unzip utility, and 7zip working fine here.

Here's a print screen of the Tekkit archive sitting in my desktop, and the contents that are within the archive.

If this isn't what's in your archive, can you take a screenshot of it and upload?

@undone. cant screen shot, but I got the file from tank here

Download http://tesfan.mchost.org/tekkit.zip . Unpack to wherever you'd like your Technic install to be. This will be a working directory until install is done. Mine stays on the desktop. You can always put a shortcut to launch it afterwards. Read the instructions in the Readme.txt file. Have fun, and remember, the Technic side of the server is at tesfan.mchost.org:25566 .

also tried 7zip the "Tekkit_Installer" file is still a winrar file and not a jar file

edit2: tried running as a java platmorm SE binary and got this result: "could not find the main class: C:\users\[myname]\desktop\tekkbgsf\tekki_instaler.jar. program will exit."

Inside that zip is a folder called "Tekkit". Inside that is "Tekkit_Installer.jar".

Ahh, I see the problem. WinRar by default sets itself to open .jar file types. Right click the Tekkit_installer, click "open with..." and right away, you may see the familiar coffee cup, Java in the new list. If not, you'll need to browse to your java folder, usually: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe is what you are looking for, but there are a few different places it may be. Once that is set, it will no longer just start opening winrar, but instead, actually launch the installer file.

I can support you through teamviewer if you'd like.

That would allow him to run the installer the normal way, but to have the .bat file auto repoint the directory to his working folder(just during install), he would need to set .jar files back to be associated with java.
If you just right click->Open With->Java, make sure to tell the installer where your technic directory is, by click "Set target Minecraft Folder" and browsing to where you unzipped the files to.

Just incase WinRar somehow corrupted it, start over. Just delete the directory, unzip again, run the first bat, log in to minecraft, exit minecraft, and try the last thing you were doing again. I suppose there is a chance the wrong java executable is associated now, but that is better than WinRar.

To resolve the issue from happening again, I'm just going to force java to open it using the bat file. Should make things even easier for future uses.

Once you use the WinRar and extract it to say MyDocuments, run the Tekkit Installer that should be present and direct it to your .minecraft folder, from here it will create its own folder called mods and multiple others it uses. This should be you good to go.
Thanks! Loving the mod.

5. Save the notepad file into the new Minecraft folder above as Technic.bat - Make sure the file type is "All Files".

No need for the type setting. Just type it with quotes when saving - that is, "Technic.bat", not Technic.bat - and Notepat will not add any file name extension to the end.

This is standard Windows save file dialogue behaviour since more than a decade, by the way, and works the same in almost every Windows program.

So of the stuff seems complicated though but f it :D

By the way, we DO have a new Official Forum. Eventually, one will be required to register in order to be whitelisted. I suggest you do so now and while you're there join in the discussions or make your own.

Working on the whitelist implementation now. The non technic server will be affected by restarts for a bit.
