I must say, I have looked a Lets play, and I can't share the good general opnion on this DLC. I am very disappointed. SImply because everything is simply average. No suprises in the story, very archetypic characters, and also I don't find the other new stuff impressing, the new architecture don't reach the level of the vanilla game (Like Windhelm, Markarth or Whiterun, but sadly the great concept Artist of Shivering Isles, Fallout 3 and Skyrim is dead and I think this is noticeable in this dlc), the most important artifact is a cheap retexture of a Vanilla bow, which could be done by every average modder who candle Photoshop. Generally it seems that TES turned in completly generic fantasy, it's all very replaceable. Nothing compared to the level of for example the Witcher. And that's a problem for me, TES, mostly Morrowind but partwise also Skyrim is for me fascinating because of the world itself. I always thougt of TES is something unique, a interessting Universe with complex politcs, cultures, legends. But it seems this is gone over the years and now finally with Dawnguard, it seems to be very poor/average entertaiment.
Wouldn't it be for my liking of an Openworldstyle Fantasyworld and the rich modding communty, I wouldn't be interessted in TES anymore.
And sorry for my english.
Bizzy, I partly agree with you. However I think that you aren't giving Bethesda enough credit, over the past 6 months, not only have they been well...resting and reflecting upon the awesome game that they made, but they've been working on Dawnguard and most likely other DLC, they've been having to deal with all sorts of bugs and issues especially with the PS3, they had to get the Creation Kit ready for PC players, and they also suffered through the loss of one of their great artists like you said. To still have all that occur, and create a piece of DLC, that is longer than many FULL GAMES in itself and appears to generally please the masses is quite a feat. However I do agree that at least from what I've played so far I can see what you mean by them just "re-skinning" vanilla Skyrim stuff, but honestly if you look at the series as a whole, they are all basically the same game. Where the difference lies is in the story telling, and so I don't have a full comment on that yet since i haven't gotten close to finishing, but from what ive played so far it seems at least up to par with the rest of Skyrim's quests, I wouldn't say that it is any worse. But heck, if I'm able to at least stay somewhat entertained by this for at least 10 hours or so, i'd definitley say money well spent
