What will you play Fallout new vegas on and why?

$2000, you could easily find a good pc for under $1000 that can run FNV.

Yep...I don't know where people get their numbers from sometimes. PC hardware that can run games is fairly cheap nowadays. You can build a good gaming machine for under $700 if you know what you're doing. A lot of people could probably get away with upgrading their video cards for $60 - $200 as well, depending on whether or not they'd need a new power supply.

Is it the same controls as on the xbox 360 with the xbox 360 controller.

Yep. Anytime you see a Games For Windows logo on a PC game you're supposed to be able to use a 360 controller with it and the controls should be (by default) exactly the same as the 360 version (if there is one). The controls in Fallout 3, to me, feel the same on the PC using a 360 controller as they do on the 360.

I'm suspecting rectal origins, or they looked up exorbitantly overpriced Alienware.

I made a rule of thumb once... "You can easily buy twice the PC if you buy the parts and build it yourself than if you bought it from Dell or their ilk."

It's not just memory, it's CPU, video card, hard disk speed/space... Memory is just the temporary storage.

What's your computer's specs? CPU, video card, memory amount, video card bus (AGP/PCI express?), list 'em.

Better yet, run a program called "DXDIAG", click on "Save All Information", save the text file somewhere and then copy-paste the contents of the resulting text file here INTO A SPOILER BLOCK (emphasized because dxdiag barfs up a LOT of info), and then we can see more in detail.

While it might not be $2000 it's still at least a console, the game, and a nice tv. And than it'll be obsolete in 3 months.

And I don't know about you guys, but I know that I don't know how to build a computer. So saying you could for less means nothing to me.

I'd love to have a gaming rig, but I just can't see it as that good of an investment. MY OPINION, please don't tell me that my opinion is wrong. I know that people value different things.

I really hope that anybody who is getting it for 360 or PS3 just is not fortunate enough to have a powerful PC, because if not, wow, you are purposefully missing out for no reason

You can just git a good hard drive for about $200 and a good graphics chip for 200$ so about about $800 to have a good computer but if you wanna go all out you can buy realy high grade stuff and make it a monster you may have to put 2-3k in it

Unless you plan on buying a high end HDD/SSD then there really is no need for paying more then $110 for a HDD. There are 1TB drives out there for less then $80 now, and they would do fine for a basic gamer. Then in order to make sure your "$200 graphics card" is not bottlenecked by anything, you need to make sure you have enough RAM, decent CPU and a good PSU to power it.

PS3, I hate the mouse and keyboard for gaming, really do, gamepads are way better for me to use, I'm faster with them and they're more comfortable.

PC does win out because of the mods, but I figure I can't run it on optimum (or even close) so I'd better stick with my PS3. If I get a better PC in the future then I may switch over, by then there should be some sweet mods out too. Until then though, PS3.

PC game system requirements haven't changed that much since 2006. 3 months? Really, now, do some research before you post things like this. My old PC from 4 years ago that I just handed down to my nephew runs games better than my 360 does.

Aside from that, the video card is the only thing that you buy for gaming, the rest is...well...a computer that can do all sorts of wonderful things. Video cards that surpass current-gen consoles go for around $60 - $70.

And I don't know about you guys, but I know that I don't know how to build a computer. So saying you could for less means nothing to me.

Ok, how about this. Buy a $600 PC that's not for gaming, then add a video card (pretty easy to install) for $60 - $150. Now get your games for at least $10 less than console games, not to mention all of the discounts you can find all over the place. I rarely pay more than $30 - $40 for new, sealed PC games. Really, it's not much more expensive than consoling...if at all. If you don't already have a PC that can be upgraded for gaming then the initial investment is going to look higher for a PC, but over time it evens out and in my experience ends up tipped in favor of the PC side.

I own both PCs and consoles, and I usually go the PC route with games if I can...it's actually cheaper. The price difference in the games more than makes up for the difference in the price of the hardware.

I'd love to have a gaming rig, but I just can't see it as that good of an investment. MY OPINION, please don't tell me that my opinion is wrong. I know that people value different things.

IMO it's a better investment than a console. Then again, I'm a computer type of person so I have them around anyway. My HTPC is also my music player, blu-ray player, Netflix player, DVR, and lots of other things. Cost me about $1000 to build. Much, much cheaper than buying all of those things of comparable quality separately, and even then I couldn't do all of the things my HTPC can.

It's a matter of perspective, I guess.

Again, I own both, and I'm not arguing the superiority of one over the other. I just have a hard time letting it slide when people start posting such grossly inaccurate information.

The only thing that was grossly inaccurate was my obsolete time frame.

Anyhoo, I've never really looked into what it would take to make a decent rig and reading into it just kinda got overwhelming.

You've got me interested though.

PC.

1. Higher resolutions. You know what svcks? Having a 1080P HDTV and games being upscaled to that resolution(whenever I play games on my PS3, my HDTV always displays the resolution it changes to. Games always run at 1020x768). The quality loss is horrendous, especially with little to no AA or AF. I like my 22" 1080P monitor, which my PC games can fully utilize.

2. Better graphics. Absolutely no debate about it. Higher view distances, better and more shadows, higher resolution textures, etc.

3. Steam. Yeah, some PC gamers hate it, but I absolutely love it. PSN comes nowhere near Steam from my experiences.

4. Mods. Mods, mods, mods, mods. Do I even have to explain this?

5. Developer console. And before you yell out "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX", educate yourself on what the developer console can really do.

6. Better performance, adjustable graphics, INI tweaking, and faster loading.

No real reason for me to choose the PS3 version over the PC version.

Fair enough...didn't mean to sound like I was mad or anything. :)

Anyway the $2,000 machines you see in catalogs and such are typically way overpriced and unnecessary. When you buy Alienware you're paying more for the name and the aesthetics. A lot of the other "boutique" brands do entirely unnecessary crap like using liquid cooling on machines that aren't overclocked, etc. A sane buyer will generally save their money and buy something more mundane for a lot less money unless they're "hardcoe."

Xbox 360

I don't have the best computer so I'll stick with my 360.
All those mods sounds great for different games but I'll just go with what I know for now. ^_^

The Kinect has absolutely nothing to do with graphics. It has everything to do with motion sensing, ala the Wiimote.

PS3 and it'll be just fine because it's beautiful. :)

The extras all the PC users have are very tempting but I work on computer all day and I'd rather not be on it in my leisure time too.

It's true that it is a computer. I tend to think of it as a game console / blu-ray player though. My Macbook is my computer...it's all in my head. :)

PC, because playing a modded Beth game is like playing an entirely different game. I can really say that I wouldn't ever play FO3 if I didn't have mods, the original combat system is just too unimmersive and bland, as well as a vast amount of other awesome stuff mods have added.

Wife and kids are my #1 Priority which pretty much takes up earnings including mortgage, car payments and schooling.

That said: Fishing, Hunting, Palma shooting, and Gaming are my hobbies.

If I want a PC that will run new games at a speed that the PS3 and Xbox does, what do I need altogether price-wise. I'm still looking at 1k+ right?.

I wouldn't mind replacing my Consoles with a PC, but a Console I can keep for a few years and not have to worry about upgrading and spending more money on it outside the games. Are PC's as cheap to maintain as consoles?

I'm curious since I'm a business guy not a tech guy. "IF" I can get a PC that will last 4-5 years with no upgrade, I might spend $600- $800 dollars on it assuming it can truly outdo my PS3 in both terms of longevity and ease of use.

I want it to be noticeably better at that.
