Who misses picking a Class

I've always hated classes. I find them unrealistically restrictive.

I don't miss picking a class per say, I miss that they could have gone further and tied the Class with a more robust Radiant Story system, that you'd get random mission pertaining to the Parameters you told the game, I want something the game cares about, not what I can make up in my head ;p
What the game needs are robust faction mechanics, not classes. Classes are 'fossilized' factions that exist in the player's past. I'd rather have living factions in the player's present.

I completely agree with this. The idea of just playing the way you want and having your character grow accordingly is a cool idea... but it really doesn't work well. It's so stupid that you're able to be good at absolutely everything with a single character.

I missed the part in Oblivion where I COULDN'T become a god at every skill. Actually, I haven't and Skyrim but I DID in Oblivion. My Argonian had maxed every skill, had every daedric artifact, completed every questline and quest, had godly-enchanted equipment, and pretty much every attribute maxed.

Nothing changed. The only change is that you'll level up from the low skills you never use increasing. Which makes you WEAKER.

I don't miss classes at all. I also don't get where the "you're good at everything without classes" talk is coming from. I have 5 characters, each is a different "class" concept, and are nowhere near being good at everything. My characters are far more specialized than they were in Oblivion. I'm finding it tough to make an effective "all-school" spellcaster, for instance, which was very simple in previous games.

No. That could not be furtherfrom the truth. This game is about player choice. If anything, I should be able to be good at everything with a single character.

I find in terms of practicallity, I can only effectively focus on four skills - In Oblivion, it was six, and Morrowind, it was Eight (I always had one useless "major" in Oblivion, and two useless "minors' in Morrowind)

I like the restrictiveness of picking a class. I hate Jack of all Trades characters. I play the role of the class and if I want to play a different type character I start again. I find it unrealistic to be able to max out every skill to 100. In every Bethesda RPG I play that way. Maybe it's just me?

EDIT: The system only works for those with self control. If you just want to level everything then you can't blame the system for allowing you to.

Which is why you see so much whining. It's due to the influx of MMO players who have no self-control because the games they play never allow them to control anything. Welfare gaming at its finest.

I prefer the perk system because of the freedom it provides. You can choose to be very narrow or as jack of all trades as you like. I don`t miss the class system at all, other than having a cool title of sorts.

How is the view up there? For the last time, just because someone plays an mmo does not mean they are the ones whining. Now get off your [censored] high horse.

I miss having classes ... for other players.

I got tired of the typical warrior / mage / thief class about ten years ago so I've played with custom or invented classes since then whenever the game lets me do it that way.

I liked the classes as I usually got ideas for new characters from them.

But I almost always ended up making a custom class anyway, so no big loss there.

Somewhat but I prefer the new leveling system. It could still improve though.

Far more than classes though I miss attributes. Really hope someone could mod them back in.

I miss anything that brought more depth to the game. The more character choice, the better. Simple is as simple does is well, simple.

I feel absolutely the same as you OP. I miss this feature a lot. And the first thing I'll try to do once the CK is out is overhauling the "character creation" and skills and stats system. I am not very optimistic that this is possible at all though.

To be honest, I haven't given it a second though. Assigning your build some arbitrary name seems fairly pointless.

I never liked the class system; I like having a mage who can still do a beat down with a sword; or a beserker who can fix his own stuff. I like being able to choose the things they will be good at; feels more like a person that you're creating.

Its not arbitrary. It defines your character a bit more. Always helps when the game acknowledges things. Of course we can just pretend that we play a certain class but its always good when the game acknowledges these things. If I wanted to pretend everything I'd play a tabletop rpg.

I'm not saying classes should be extremely restricting but something resembling a class would be nice.

I think the perks system aims to replace the class system. Does it ok, but now level means almost nothing. I would like both :P Would make it easier on beth if they wanted to have a world react to the PC more. NPC's could react based on class and sign n such, fewer variables than every skill/perk

But, the game never acknowledged class anyway...

Nothing's been "removed"

They do, or at least they react to my skills. A lot of guards admire how skilled my (female) khajiit uses both hands to handle her weapon, and would really love it if she'd enchant their blades.

I don't miss picking a class but I miss MAKING a class. It felt more challenging with minor/major skills because minor ones were harder to level up. It was also cool thinking of a class name, and even writing a description of your class to make it more personalized. But alas we will never get it back because Bethesda is trying to get those little CoD fan boys to play TES and they don't have the time to think of how they wanna play because they just wanna kill stuff and yell "LOL I PWN U" at the screen.

Not really. I usually end up picking a class but when I play do the opposite. So for me its more natural not to have to choose and define my character through playing the game instead.

I miss it, because some classes have lore behind them, such as battlemages, which enhances RP. Of course, those of us who have played other TES games can simply recreate them, but it must make a new player's characters feel rather empty and generic unless they're very good roleplayers.
