Who is that dragon!

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:31 am

I watch this video every day and I am currently watching it again. I am wondering if this really is Alduin. Here are my thoughts as to why..

This image reminds me of the beginning a LOT http://playstationlifestyle.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Skyrim_Conceptart_dragon_feature.jpg

Also, I stated earlier that I thought it WASN'T Alduin because "Bethesda wouldn't spoil the boss for us that soon". thinking about that statement it doesn't make much sense now because technically they have. They have shown us the collectors edition statue OF Alduin AND told us who the boss was going to be so there really isn't anything to spoil.

Aside from that when he breathes fire through the tower you are running through the face looks way too similar. I am starting to doubt my previous opinions, especially after you all made the alternate argument to "Legends don't burn down villages". Now that I think about it that should have been the first interpretation of that sentence rather than what I thought.
Well technically they said Alduin is the major villain. They did not (unless I missed something) say he will be the final boss.

Um, what Rncewindthethird said. Alduin is supposed to be in an idle state at the beginning of the game, I can't see how and why it should appear in its full glory when the game starts. We know that an elder scroll foretold its return but we also know that the MQ won't develop until the player decides to go through it. If Alduin is already awake and ready to destroy the world, what a weak player who doesn't even know he's the Dovahkiin is supposed to do against it? It is my understanding that things in Skyrim work just like in Oblivion during the crysis, which doesn't start until the player goes through the MQ

Don't slam it until you've seen it and made comparisons for yourself.

Maybe the CE dragon isn't actually Alduin...

That would actually be pretty cool

Alduin has NOT yet come into the world. This is just the beginning of the game.

Heck, the developers have already described Alduin in detail. We know what to look for...

Like the person above said, the only solution is if the CE statue is not Alduin, because the dragon in the video has more than a mere passing resemblance to it, they are identical aside from the in-game lighting conditions. Unless Alduin happens to have a twin or a direct offspring (would a god even need that?) that shares his exact appearance, it was him, a projection of him, or whatever that had his exact appearance.

People will see what they want to see. No one can help that...

even if you point out that unlike the beginning dragon, the very tips of Alduins spikes in the statue are light colored

Indeed. That's the main distinction - I think it probably isn't

It may be Alduin (hopefully not - would seem an odd choice so early on) or it may not. If it is Alduin, then in reality I was hoping he'd be slightly bigger, but he's still pretty bad ass

Hopefully it's one of the jills.

What I would say in favour of it being him, is that in the art, the picture where he's arriving and blowing everyone to hell is very reminiscent of the opening sequence.

well but in morrowind the main villain was already there, wating to be killed
i hated oblivion btw, for the bad MQ, in Kvatch the time stands still until i decide to go there? really?

I don't see why it would be so bad to see Alduin at the beginning of the game if that was him (it certainly looked like him, I'm glad its not quite as spikey as the statue makes him out to be, giant spikes of impracticality are an annoying fantasy trope) He comes in, rains meteors down, wipes out a village, and goes away. You now have just watched an entire village, including imperial soldier, get crushed easily, and you know, "I have to fight that" Even encountering other dragons, they aren't going to be push overs, and yet you'll always have in the back of your mind, "That was tough, but I know Aduin will be that much tougher, this dragon wasn't raining meteors from the heavens."

From in IC perspective definitely, I think this builds excitement, seeing your ultimate goal so early, and seeing how very far away you are from being able to stop him. I'm sure him showing up, killing the village, and 'saving' (whether it was intentional or not) you will be explained in game.

Lol. But you know when the game comes out and one side is proven right versus the other, there's going to be a lot of "I was right! I was right!"

It doesn't mean that he can't fly back to his cave or wherever he resides after the attack and bide his time. I mean, how many people ignored the main quest in Oblivion and didn't go to Kvatch to save Martin Septim right away? Weeks pass by and it's still the same as if you would have entered the place within the hour of starting the game. Time has no bearing in elder scrolls quests.

Well, I went back and did a lot of pausing of the video and looking at different angles of the CE Alduin statue. After a lot of comparison, it does look like Alduin. I'm not saying that it is Alduin, I'm just saying that it looks... Just like Alduin. But it doesn't make sense to me, because I thought that Alduin hadn't woken up yet, that the other dragons had to herald his coming, first. And I thought Alduin would be a lot bigger... Beefier, spikier....

But I guess we'll find out when we play the game.

While he doesn't look exactly the same as the statue, I do think the dragon at the beginning looks exactly like this concept art of Alduin http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:SR-concept-Alduin.jpg

Even the shape of the nose, the short spikes on the neck, and the three rows of spikes on the back are the same

I think that one of the scenes in the intro looks just like http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111028151457/elderscrolls/images/thumb/1/1a/Alduin_Attack.jpg/830px-Alduin_Attack.jpg, and the people being knocked back look like they're wearing imperial armor.

Ok whether the dragon is alduin or not, we have to be able to agree its not the dragon you align with. In fact, it isn't even close. The dragon you align with is just a normal dragon colored purple. It looks like the one from the demo. The dragon in the beginning is spikey and black. If you don't believe me, re-watch the video. It isn't the dragon you align with. End of story.

Yep, I can see the difference. It's not the same dragon. Although that would be pretty cool.
