Who is that dragon!

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:59 am

There's always more possibilities. Maybe the fates of the Dragonborn and that of Alduin are linked. If the Dragonborn dies so do the dragons :P

In any case I can't wait to get my hands on this. It'll be the best adventure game since...Morrowind!

nah that wouldn't make much sense otherwise the dragons wouldn't attack Dovahkiin at all.

Surely it's a jill. Why would a god ever care about some prisoners execution?

I know it hasn't been confirmed if "Your" (I use that loosely.) dragon is simply controlled by the shout (Perhaps saying it's name?), or if it is helping you of it's own free-will as it doesn't want Alduin to eat the world - however it does make sense that it'd stop you from being executed if the latter option was the case.

It's been answered quite casually by Todd within the last couple weeks.
Spoiler
Todd specifically said you gain the dragon's trust, and when you shout his name he hears you wherever you are and comes to your aid, at least if he can fit there (IE outside). That's a fairly huge spoiler in my opinion. I'm surprise he so casually blew it, but alas. He said they wanted to reveal it.

Bethesda would not base their whole epic story on irony! If this story revolves around irony I will be very sad and surprised. Can we all agree though that we hope it wasn't Alduin?

Edit: It also seems like he/she is kind F'ing around, not a very serious life or death thing, more of a savior thing. imo.
Spoiler
I think it's quite ironic that the guy that gets executed told them to stop the whole ceremony/blessing thing. Perhaps if he didn't interrupt them, the dragon would have shown up before he got killed.

Not to mention this:
Spoiler
He used Fus Roh Dah on Dovahkiin instead of torching him like everyone else. Why would he do that? It seems fishy to me that he used fire to kill everyone else but he uses a "force push" on you instead of torching you.
Yes that's exactly my thoughts.
Spoiler
I'm reading a lot of "but the dragon attacked the player." The first thing I thought when this was pointed out was how the dragon had no problem torching almost everything in sight... but reserved a relatively harmless trip through the air for the player. We may be reading too much into it, but I definitely agree that's fishy.

if you gain it's trust then he wouldn't be there to save you since that is your first encounter. Without it's trust then why would it save you? Some people speculate that it is trying to save you from your execution and that the dragon that appears is the dragon you befriend later, which doesn't add up if you think about it.

We're all hoping it's not Alduin and we're basing our conclusion that its not based off of size. But in appearance, other than size, the dragon looks EXACTLY like Alduin.

Alduin is a god I'm sure he can be whatever size he darn well pleases. I'm not personally worried about that.

No there is also a part where one of the NPCs says "Legends don't burn down villages". I think this was bethesda's way of explaining that this wasn't Alduin and if it were it would have been a hell of a lot worse than just an attack on that city/village.

What I got from that statement was "This isn't a legend- it's real."

It could also be interpreted as inferring that legends, being words and stories tend to be harmless compared to the reality behind them.

better wording than mine... yes. This is what I got from the statement.

Perhaps it's not size that makes Alduin fearfully inspiring... Rather his abilities.

My thoughts; Alduin will have shouts/abilities that other dragons won't have, perhaps shouts/abilities that we won't have- a.k.a. raining hellfire from the skies.

I don't think it's Alduin. I think it's the dragon that becomes your ally later on.

The first time he lands, he looks straight at the player character. He could have torched the guy right then and there, but he didn't. He torched several other people along the way, though. He used metor shouts to allow the character to get away, and when the character got in his way, he used the force shout. I think Alduin would have just torched everybody and that would be it.

I watch this video every day and I am currently watching it again. I am wondering if this really is Alduin. Here are my thoughts as to why..

This image reminds me of the beginning a LOT http://playstationlifestyle.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Skyrim_Conceptart_dragon_feature.jpg

Also, I stated earlier that I thought it WASN'T Alduin because "Bethesda wouldn't spoil the boss for us that soon". thinking about that statement it doesn't make much sense now because technically they have. They have shown us the collectors edition statue OF Alduin AND told us who the boss was going to be so there really isn't anything to spoil.

Aside from that when he breathes fire through the tower you are running through the face looks way too similar. I am starting to doubt my previous opinions, especially after you all made the alternate argument to "Legends don't burn down villages". Now that I think about it that should have been the first interpretation of that sentence rather than what I thought.

yeah, I got the interpretation that it's Alduin. Wanted him to be a bit bigger... but perhaps it's not size that gives him his superiority/challenge but his abilities.

I don't think it literally means he will eat all of Nirn. I think it means he will basically destroy all life on Nirn but I don't see Alduin dippin Nirn into a cheese fondu fountain.

The actual closest comparison I found, was from http://game-preorders.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/alduin-statue-closeup.jpg image of the collector's statue, and at roughly 12:33 as he is blowing the player off his feet in the video. I wonder though, if there is some kind of reason he would want to keep us around, if he wasn't outright trying to kill us just yet.

Maybe he was just acting ferociously and trying to pacify you long enough to take care of those who were shooting flaming arrows at him before cleaning house. I think if I were being pelted by arrows I would take them out first out of anger and self-preservation and then take out the prisoners who's hands are bound. I seriously don't even think he meant to save you.
