Why is the fun of this game slowly fading away?

Um most game only last 50 hrs on average. You don't have to play it forever, go get another game. This is a useless thread.

No, not for me at least.. I've put 70 hrs ( in a week's time ) in the game and I am enjoying the game.. I'm taking a break because I don't want to get burnt out.. I've walked around and been to every City all are unlocked so I can do the fast travel to drop loot and stuff off to my houses.. Have two houses one in Whiterun and the other at Markarth.. Just finished my Vamp quest and decided to take a few day's and do some apartment cleaning and get my bill's paid before thanksgiving comes..

The expansion pack probably won't be out until another 4 - 6Month ( or longer ) so I have plenty of time to do a lot of skyrim.. Plus the next elder scrolls probably wont be out for another 3 - 5 years.. So I have plenty of time to get 1 or 2 more characters in before the next one arrives, while finishing this one up.. I suggest you take a break for a while until you can enjoy it again..

It's really much more enjoyable when you do other things in real life along with it. I've been spending a lot of time with friends now, and it makes getting back to Skyrim interesting and fun.

Almost everything in life fades in time. Interests come and go, whether it's a career or a relationship. So hold on to that passion while it's there. And if you give it time you will probably come back it with a renewed sense of fun.

Seriously though, what you don't want to do is keep playing until you are bored or finished with whatever you are doing. Stopping while you are having fun is a great idea for having you be excited for the next time you play the game, and keeping it fresh and fun. Rushing from one thing to another ruins the game.

repetetive combat, AI and enemies; the illusion of choice that has no impact on the story/world in any signifigant way; the amount of bugs and exploits in addition to the lack of polish

80 hours in and even my GF is showing concern..yet im not bored yet at all, discovered some very interesting locations, true i have completed the DB, thieves and companions quest..but i still have not chosen a side in the upcoming civil war, think i still have a hundred or so locations to find, and have not gone near the main quest.mostly been ranging from hold to hold, city to city , clearing dungeons and locations doing side quests..radiant story is not good for someone with ocd :P.. im only hoping the two planned dlc/expansions add more depth to the game.one more thing, i can look past textures and at times odd occurances but there a guy in whiterun that keeps duplicating..it damn freaky, seems he set to essential too cause i tried killing him and his clones.. there are now 14 of him,i fear if i continue with this problem he will eventually rule the world by pure force of numbers..gary 2.0

...I've found that if I start getting in too much of a hurry and don't feel like taking time for the between-quest little things (like enchanting, alchemy, reading the books, and merchant stuff), that I'm probably playing it too much and need to take a break...

When I start thinking of fast traveling somewhere, I know I've had enough and it's time to go to sleep.

I pace myself. I play about 2 hours a day, and about 4 hours (sometimes less) a day on the weekends. My wife sometimes just wants to game and we veg (we both love games and TES), but we pretty much just pace ourselves. I couldn't imagine playing 100 hours a week. Ugh! For the moment I am playing Zelda:SS just waiting for the next patch. /shrug

It's because I have discovered some things that I don't like. Small nitpicks, but they do take away the enjoyment of the game.

Like quest items being scaled to your level. What this means is if you do a quest at level 10, the quest item will be scaled to a level 10. At level 40, that neat unique quest item will still have level 10 stats.
Like blacksmithing being too easy to level.
Like exploits existing in the game, where people stack +enchanting, alchemy and +blacksmithing gear. It doesn't give me peace of mind, although I don't use that exploit, did I somehow inadvertently use any exploits?

So now I am just wandering around, being limited in what I can do.

if you have six too much it stops being fun
if you party too much it stops being fun
if you eat too much it stops being fun
if you play skyrim too much it stops being fun

It's so true. You have to mix up those four at least.

Anybody can nitpick a game to death and find ways to kill the experience. No game is perfect. That's like finding your soul mate, marrying her...then starting to nit pick about her eye brows...then her belly button...then her cheek bones... The next thing you know you don't enjoy looking at her as much? Just have fun with the game and enjoy the game for what it is, not for what it isn't/flaws it may have (or flaws you are nit picking for).

I feel how the OP feels already and I am on level 24. Except I haven't even been through much but the Companions Quests, and became Master of the Guild also boosting stats, hunting etc. However, the more I have been playing I start seeing objects floating in the sky, Mammoths dropping out of the sky and dying, NPC's that have Endermen powers from Minecraft.

I stopped playing and lost interest until It get's fixed. That and I keep running into quest bugs, so for me it is literally one thing after another playing the game. If it's not a CTD, or freeze
issue, it is a quest bug that helps me exit out of the game and stop playing till it get's fixed. Overall right now ,it's is making my game very boring because I am more concerned about not being able to finish a quest or I am looking at terrain pop in. Which is a distraction.

I don't remember ever having this issue with Oblivion on it's release. That was back when I first got into TES and I bought a 7900GT for 200.00

OMG! The final battle in Valhalla was amazing! Perhaps one of the strongest main quest endings I've ever experienced. It was definitely up there with the original Starcraft and Deus Ex endings. Very, very satisfying. What a rush!!! Seems to me that the main quest definitely has some re-playability. Anyway, I'm happy to say that 111 hours with the game and my enthusiasm for it has not dampened at all.

As a couple of you have noted, you definitely need to not overdo fast travel and take the time to enjoy all the thousands of little details in the game. Last night after finishing the main quest I returned to the Mage School to take care of some minor business. After that instead of fast traveling to Riften I got on my horse and took the scenic route. Much to my surprise, even with the main quest over I still had several cool skirmishes on the way, completed a heretofore undiscovered quest, and in talking with many NPC's got hints of 2-3 other possible quests to investigate later. How cool is that? Not to take Skyrim too, too seriously, but I think like life in general, the fun in Skyrim is in the journey and not the destination.

alot of people feel that the Bigger quest lines are the only ones that matter

We'll generally these are the quests with more interesting stories & characters and offer greater challenges with better rewards... Yes there are a lot of main side quest I've done that are sweet but many don't seem to have any impact on the world, and don't offer any useful rewards... I did that 3x amulet quest which was great; other than that I've havent seen much in the way of side quests that don't seem trivial or repetetive. Like "Go find this book in the undead tomb and bring it to me; k thanks"

I'm not bored of it yet, but I'm sure, like with Oblivion, I will become bored of it eventually. But then some of the bigger mods and expansions will come out that will make me want to play it again. <3

When I "finished" the main story quest, I didn't even realized it was finished thus not satisfied.

Nope. I made a character that went all the way to 40, and the only things I had beat were the main quest, thieves guild, and companions. I hadnt even touched the dark brotherhood, mages guild, deadric quests, or the civil war, and I only did a few side quests. I started over because I wanted to build a perfect character(in the other one, I had just put perks in random places to try out every thing.

Im now a 13 in my new one, the only thing Ive hone is finished the civil war, and joined the thieves guild, and Im clamoring for more, I dont get to play as much as Id like to. This game all ready has a crapload of stuff in it. When all the patches, and all the dlc come out, it will be even more amazing.

stop using Fast Travel. You're game has just recieve about 30-40 more hours of Gameplay.

I like watching random fights between wolves/guards, or Fire Atronachs and Giants, or Bears/Townsfolk.
Love seeing Giants fighting Guards...I jump in.

TO be honest, I have one character doing everything atm...its hard...but The reason being is..I want to max out one character and try out all the different aspects...see what I'm comfy with...then I'm going to be hitting another character.

My favorite thing to do ATM is...stash EVERYTHING at home you normally wear/comfy with, except stuff that doesn't weigh anything. I'm talking only wearing regular clothes, lock picks, some potions, and just...GO find more stuff and use it.

From Iron Daggers to Steel War Axes, to Long Bows, and arrows...just use what ever you find. Hit a bandit spot, when you kill some one you take their style of gameplay (Bow/Arrow, Dual Wielding Forsworn, if you killed a Magic User, if you have his spells use them instead to kill the next target). Grab a Merc if you are a higher level and don't think your other styles work.

Really MAKE a jack of all trades character instead of this [censored] cookie cutter thing people are making. (IM A DARK BROTHER HOOD ASSASSIN!) So am I, but I use heavy Armor, and I sneak with two-handed axes...lmao
