Why is the fun of this game slowly fading away?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 6:47 pm

I've made three characters, got to around level 25 on all of them. One is a Thief / Assassin, the next is a Pure Mage, and the last is a heavy armored Warrior with a two-hander. The Thief / assassin completed the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild, the Pure Mage completed the College of Winterhold, and the Pure Warrior completed The Companions. I haven't even touched the main questline yet on any of those characters, and I lack the motivation to do so. Mainly because i have a strong suspicion that once I complete the main quest on a character, I'll feel satisfied with the game and will stop playing it entirely, due to me already using all of the available types of combat, except for one handed + shield, everything else has been used. Anyone beginning to feel the same way?

Im starting to get a bit of the same feeling....then again I dont blame Skyrim,I blame the fact that I've played so many video games in general that I just find it hard to have fun once Im past 100hours of gameplay.

not i. There's plenty of people who are "finished" with the game after doing the 4 main side quests and the Main quest. Which just means while you enjoy ES you aren't getting very much out of it. THe beauty of the game is you don't need to do any of those to have fun yet alot of people feel that the Bigger quest lines are the only ones that matter. I mean hell im having amazing fun running around doing Daedric shrine quests and just random ass side quests but i see where you can be coming from

Either way i'd like to know how much time have you spent on the game already? If you passed 7-14 hours you already made it worth more than most single player games out anymore. all worth 60 bucks just if you play skyrim to its full you can get hundreds of hours.

I say start the main quest with at least one character. The Fedex-kind of side missions could get old, if there isn't a bigger purpose in the game, you supposed to be fighting for. The side quests are great to raise your levels and pick up unique items or earn more cash, but all the stuff you get from the side quests are mostly there so there isn't only one thing you do. I don't think you gonna get bored doing the main quest more than once, especially if you do one part at a time and then go off again to other side quests, or perhaps you try to make something new, like a unique armor with smithing and enchanting. I also recommend to raise your difficulty level a notch..where facing even just common bandits is a challenge and you have to save/reload several times just to clear the outside of a fortress.

Hah, im having the same problem too. Keep ending up making new characters when i get around level 20ish and barely touched the main quest.
Though it's all still fun though :D

Try making a new build instead of a traditional one.

I've kind of burned out in a way. I'm still enjoying it and motivated to play more, but feel I could be getting more out of it if it weren't all a haze from playing near non-stop and chaining totally unrelated quests. So since I'll be traveling most of this week anyway, I'm going to give it a rest at least until the patch drops. Then I'll be reloading my level 2 savegame and just hunt deer for awhile - take quests when people ask for help but not start down any big questlines.

hmm i know if i did the same thing i would be in the same situation!
i did the same with FONV and the thrill died rather quik so this time im taking it slower

ive waited like 5 months for this game i dont want to complete it in a week.

my tips
spend more time on 1 character
dont play multiple characters
dont rush main quest lines such as guilds and MQ

thats why i havent completed any guilds, and fewer quests, no main quest

i dont want to spoil the game b4 the good mods come out!

ive played for 100hrs, 1st character got to lvl 18 then i restarted with same character and its now at lvl 16

im just exploring and doin dungeons, not quests if i can help it

but i also have the feeling that all the guilds have very short quest lines and once i complete the main quest and have the best gear all love for the game fades.

the trick is not to spoil the game 4 yourself too quikly if u want to put more than 300 hours into it.

if you have six too much it stops being fun
if you party too much it stops being fun
if you eat too much it stops being fun
if you play skyrim too much it stops being fun

I'm keep rerolling also. I think its the lack of classes and the gutted spell system. I just can't find satisfaction in my characters. It seems like the game is shoving a jack of all trades character down my throat.

This is the exact reason why I'm taking my time. Being slow has it's benefits. Plus I'm playing on Expert and this frickin' Draugr Deathlord is a female dog!

Good topic. I've played it a little over a hundred hours now, and although I'm still loving Skyrim I've found that if I start getting in too much of a hurry and don't feel like taking time for the between-quest little things (like enchanting, alchemy, reading the books, and merchant stuff), that I'm probably playing it too much and need to take a break. At any rate I think it's all the little immerse details that makes the Elder Scrolls series so strong and probably the best RPG series on the market.

I played Skyrim with my Breton Destro Mage for a full week and 60-70 hours before I touched the main quest. As soon as I completed the main quest, I got bored. I would say I definitely got my money out of this game, but I feel it lacks any replayability. I've done all the factions and many sidequests. I have like 6 quests left, but they're impossible to complete due to bugs or missing characters(such as the iron claw door that won't open with the password or all 18 possible combinations or the bard's college quests where the characters just won't talk to me to get their instruments back). I created a new character who dual wields, but it felt too much the same as what I had just played, even as a completely different type of character.

In the 64 hours I've played on one character I've only been to a handful of smaller villages only 2 major cities, Whiterun and Malkarth
I haven't finished a single guild questline, barely touched the main quest and I still have a ton of quests left to do before I enter Falkreath for the first time.

Say it aint so. :( At the moment I love the game and think it a heavy contender for one of the great games of all time. My only concern though is that as you hinted, there may not be a lot of replayability since the game gives you plenty of room to do just about everything there is to do in the game with the same character. As I recall in Oblivion I went through it at least twice, once as a combat mage and then as a thief, and they were moderately different gaming experiences. I'm nearing the end of the main quest, and so the big questions are going to be first of all, how much I feeling like playing after the main quest is over, and most importantly, how soon I'm going to want to start again from scratch. What you said here doesn't make me very optimistic, but I'll have to find out for myself I guess.

Two things about Skyrim:

1) Don't burn yourself out

and

2) Enjoy the little things. Be it reading a book, taking a stroll through the countryside, or just picking up a random piece of funny dialogue...Skyrim never really gets old if you just take it easy and wander.

The fun is also fading away for me , I guess that I have played too many video games in my life.
I will probably quit video games after Diablo 3.
