Will Bethesda ever fix atomic Nirnroot glows?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:04 pm

For us console users who can't rely on mods to fix our in-game woes, we are completely at Bethesda's mercy when it comes to fixes. According to the patch notes for 1.5, Nirnroot glow stacking was not listed as one of the bugs that was receiving a fix.

As I'm sure most of you are aware, the problem with Nirnroot glows not disappearing after being picked and the glows of Nirnroots stacking can cause bloated saves and lead to laggier gameplay and freezes/crashes. Not to mention having your very own in-game Chernobyl as evidenced in this picture:

http://media.photobucket.com/image/skyrim%20nirnroot%20glow/MarkQuinn2k9/Skyrim_Nirnroot_Glow.jpg

My current character has already started to notice glows stacking on Nirnroots that I haven't picked, as well as the glow not going away after picking them.

Bethesda, it would be awesome to see a fix for this problem soon, and preferably one that does NOT require me to create a brand new character just to reap the benefits. Already been down that road with 1.4.

I play on the 360 and haven't seen the "still glows after picking" issue recently, so I assumed it was fixed by one of the patches.

I guess finding nirn roots really isn't a problem with that.

That's pretty damn funny actually. I haven't see that happen with my game yet.

I am a 360 user as well with patch 1.4 maybe I'm just unlucky? Though I recently read a similar thread over in the hardware/software forum so I know I'm not the only one.

If you pick all nirnroots from the start it will not happen, but if you don't pick a nirnroot in a cell, its glow shader will duplicate. This will happen again and again every time you enter and re-enter the cell.
Mods have fixed it easy long time ago. Bethesda has done nothing.

After hearing about this "phenomenon," I didn't know what people were talking about. But then last night while playing I saw it for myself. I only noticed it because I was roaming the countryside at night and saw this "dome of light" by the water. I went to investigate and it was a nirnroot. I picked it but the "dome of light" glow still remained. It's kinda cool but it should be fixed.

That is how I found out about it as well. At night the glow is much more noticeable, and it's easy to tell that a glow is still there even after the Nirnroot has been picked. We shouldn't have to stop what we're doing just to go out of our way to pick Nirnroot just because if we don't it'll eventually bloat our saves and ruin our game. I read that it was a simple matter for the modders to fix which is why I don't understand why a fix hasn't been released for consoles yet. Maybe there's some complex reason or the problem on consoles is more involved, but as far as I know Bethesda hasn't said anything about fixing the problem let alone acknowledging that it exists.

The nirnroot glow bug was not fixed in the official 1.5 patch. Just confirmed it near whiterun. Now, as for mods (like the unofficial patch), they've fixed it a long time ago but that's not an option for console players unfortunately.

I used to be one of those guys who dismissed this bug initially. I was like "Nirnroots? They are SUPPOSED to glow!" and then just one month ago I saw something resembling a miniature nuclear explosion near a bridge in whiterun hold. Well... I guess Bethesda will eventually fix this issue for console players. Or maybe not. For some reason I find this atomic nirnroot bug hilarious. Didn't Beth say something about not fixing bugs that are fun? :P (just joking, sorry)

That's what I don't understand, if the modders fixed it a long time ago, why couldn't Bethesda replicate their success and release it for consoles?

I find it annoying when you see the glow and when you get to it there is nothing there.

Yes. Things like the stacked glows, ash piles that don't get cleaned up and weapons left on the floor all contribute to save file bloat, which leads to longer loading times and eventually increasing lag.

I either pick it or just run away from them, because I can't stand that sound! So whenever I hear one I automatically turn around in every direction in order to see it. If I can't see it, I run like hell until the sound's gone. God, that sound ... *shudder*
Haven't noticed it still glowing after I pick it, but that's just because I haven't thought of it yet. I'll probably be looking for it now, though ^^

yeah, it is just another way to create havoc for rendering and chaos in the simulation thread.

I think also it could affect detectability (is that even a word?) as it does cast a lot of light if you let them go for a long time.

I wasn't aware that there was a glitch that would ruin the main quest due to the wall not opening with the diamond claw in Skuldafin. Game ruining glitches abound in Skyrim; and for those of us on console there aren't any workarounds or commands we can enter to fix them.

I haven't been to Sarethi Farm ( where there are supposed to be 8 Nirnroots all growing together), does anyone know if it's supposed to look like this:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/static.16bugs.com/6328/lzwc2d/yreswa/Nirnroot-Glow_tn.jpg

http://images.wikia.com/elderscrolls/images/a/a6/TESV_2011-12-03_16-47-02-88.jpg

I can't imagine how bright those would be if they started stacking. According to the Elder Scrolls wikia page, the 8 Nirnroot outside are supposed to respawn after a few days...

If anyone happens to have their own screenshot of their very own nuclear reactor, feel free to share!

Happens with me on the 360 and I'm up-to-date with patches. Hiroshima nirnroots, with a glow that remains after picking.

Bethesda just simply cannot be arsed fixing this most conspicuous of glitches.
