I wish skyrim was more like fallout series when it comes to

He just says you didn't earn it honestly. That could mean graverobbing (we do that a lot) stealing, murdering, whatevs. He's just guessing. He doesn't outwardly say you're a thief.

I must agree with msa.. This is truly a intrusive thing to be done for a start of a quest.. Also, out of place.. I could be some Serial Killer or a Thief but how would you know by looking at me? He wasn't following me because he didn't know of my exsistence.. And when I see a man on the street, the last thing I would think of is what defines him as a person..

You damn Stormcloak milk-drinker...who dare you make me agree with you on something! More CW content Bethesda!

Next thing you know, I'll have you openly worshiping talos in front of the Thalmor, eating cereal with mead, and using the word TRUE ten times a day.

I actually think he was just talking about the story of Skyrim and the story of New Vegas, then he thought that there was some repetition in all of it..
I'm not sure I follow. Repitition?

----

As an aside, the earlier Fallouts' main quests had far greater ramifications. In Fallout, you encounter a dude bent on turning everyone into super mutants. In Fallout 2, you face off against an extremist group bent on the eradication of all mutated persons (read: basically everyone other than themselves). New Vegas contains what is easily the least world shaking set of events in the series: two armies fighting over a hydroelectric dam.

Unless you metagame, you're forced into the College of Winterhold and get the Thieves Guld quest. Branching quests and better story goes to New Vegas, In Skyrim you pretty much have a choice between A and B. Sure in New Vegas there were some A and B moments, but there was a lot of A, B, C, D, and etc moments.

Umm.. Still, I wouldn't look at somebody with a Wife-Beater T-Shirt and think they are abusive.. Saying how it got its name.. So I guess when whats her face in the pub at whiterun walks into the town, she will be seen as a Thief aswell.. Since she looks quite succesful..

I'm not sure I follow. Repitition?

You normally do not make a conclusion without repetition.. Quite like how you would form an experiment.. You cannot make a conclusion without your hypothesis after one test.. He listed perhaps one example of where a difference may have been seen and drawn a conclusion..

this is why fallout is better than TES, obsidian actually treats fallout like an RPG instead of a large dungeon crawler (like beth does with TES). allquests will have at least one choice that will help define your character. sure, the biggest consequnces arn't seen in-game in fallout, but why do they have to be? i felt pride when i heard how my actions changed vegas, sad when i heard what happened to boone, ect ect,i'v never felt so involved with TES as i do with even the worst of fallout's quest.

edit: fallout has lore too, beth/obsidian will have to pick a canon ending for NV. as for TES, most quests will never get into a book or into any lore so that leaves most of the game free to let characters have large choices, and beth should give choices in the MQ and other big quest-lines that they pick canon from, instead of fearing they will make some kid mad for not having his character canonized in the next TES.

Well.. I agree up to the point where it says "The biggest consequences aren't seen in the game Fallout".. But Fallout New Vegas had better consequences than that of Elder Scrolls or Fallout 3.. Not sure about Morrowind and below because haven't played them a ton.. Fallout New Vegas I believe has some of the greatest consequences for your actions..

A practical and reasonable excuse for Byansoigjsoijg's dialgoue: Seeing how the Thief Guild had fallen on rough times I think they are just desperate and trying to persuade anyone into joining up, that's how i see his dialogue. He's not accurately sizing you up, he is like a lonely man going up to the 500 lb girl calling them hotttttttttttttttttttttt

You still need the option to turn them down - and to destroy the Thieves' Guild to boot. Not sure why they made the DB an option that way but not the TG.

Now that would have been good to have been said by Bryn-whateverhisnamewas.. But dialogue in this game is horrible and the characters are weak and uninteresting to share such information

i didn't mean it like that, i meant the biggest consequnces are seen at the ending slides (boone going off to kill an NCR person then killing himself, the fates of the tribes in honest hearts, the robot dog in old world blues falling in lov with rex, the fate of new vegas, ect ect)

no offense, but i wasnt thinking of other people when i was writing out what i thought. the majority of people write their opinions with expectations that people will be able tell that it is their opinions

Those who live by the sword die by the sword. Butchering a bunch of petty Thieves is a little harsh. A questline to arrest individual members would have been good though. Cicero is probably the reason why you can eradicate the DB.. he's still out there and therefor the DB questline can lore-wise be fulfilled either way.

It really annoys me that you can't tell him he's wrong though. My black and white morality imperial legionaire who has never done anything illegal or dishonest in his life would certainly not let such an insult go unnoticed. A very annoying set-up if you're playing an honest/heroic character.

And it would be a perfect time to kill Bryn aswell then.. Sadly Bethesda wants to hold your hand and say he is too important..

The guards already hunt down and kill NPC thieves, so why not?

And those who do figure him to be important should be screwed over when a vampire or dragon or wayward pot kills him, subsequently failing an entire faction quest-line for the aspiring thief.

Comical but that is something Bethesda would have already had to to think about and fix.. These NPC's are not unkillable because of the dragons.. I believe it could be more of the casual gamers who like to kill everything in sight, and when they wonder what to do next.. They think the game is bad because nothing is left to do..

Well, you don't wanna be like the guards since the Riften one's especially aren't much better than the common thief :P. Also, there is a difference between hunting down a group of people and catching them in the act.. but I digress.

I don't have a problem with people having different opinions from me, but just remember that this is all that it is. If you enjoy FNV more than Skyrim, fine, but don't try to make it out like that is fact. In my eyes, fallout new vegas doesn't hold a candle to Skyrim. Especially in the lore department. Doesn't mean its true for everyone.

I agree OP. Choices and Consequences go hand in hand with Role Playing.
I want to think about the individual situations and deal with them in a way that suits my character, not just the one way the game limits me to.
It'd be an added bonus if more NPCs were non-essential (like FNV). Can't refuse the quest, can't kill the buggers, bah...

Or you could just make NPCs unkillable by the environment, or make them flee from threats instead of trying to beat dragons to death with their fists. Or you just allow the questline to continue whether Brynjolf is alive or not. No reason another thief who spends all their time in the ratway can't induct you into the guild and issue your orders.

Easier said that done. Not sure how that would work.

He could still die.
