Worst Full Price Game Purchase

Post » Fri Jul 15, 2011 11:27 pm

I must have been pretty unlucky then. I played it through to the end and could barely get through a mission without running into some glitch or another. The one that annoyed me the most and seemed to happen constantly was the inconsistent vehicle damage. Sometimes I'd barely clip or tap a building and catch fire when the vehicle was at full health or nearly at full health. Other times I could hit a building head on at top speed and bounce off like the entire front end of the car was made of rubber. Or just clip entirely through the building, that was always fun. :brokencomputer:

EDIT: All of this was on 360 as well.

Weird. I've never had any of those problems. Bad luck, man.

Fallout New Vegas. Got the collector's edition. Totally not worth it. The comic was cool but it wasn't worth the 80 dollar price tag. Hopefully the Skyrim collector's edition will be better.

Dungeon Lords horrible computer game. Two Worlds 2 would be another, it's not that it's bad really but..I shouldn't have paid full price for it. It's a $20 game.

Don't think I've ever paid full price for a game. Except Bad Company 2, but I've put over 400 hours into that...

I was actually thinking of getting Divinty II. I've seen several comments saying it's pretty bad. What's wrong with it?

Play the demo.

Bad controls.
Bad gameplay.
Bad graphics.
Bad voice acting.

I hope they announce it soon. I want to pre order skyrim just for the map.

I cant think of the last game i bought full price/brand new. I tend not to buy a game on release unless i know its going to be worth my money, otherwise i wait a month or so and get it at half the price.

That I can recall....

Assassin's Creed.

It was a beautiful game, but a 1-play wonder. Had I known, I wouldn't have paid full price for it.

Arcania is probably one of the worst game's I've ever played. Is is a Superman 64? no, is it an ET? no, is it a Deadly Premonition? no

I love that game. :cryvaultboy:

The only game I have ever paid full price for and regretted doing so was Oblivion. And it was the CE, even, so add even more money to that purchase. I think I learned my lesson after that, because these days I refuse to pay any more than $30 even for games I think I'll really like. Yes, that also includes Deus Ex 3 and most definitely Skyrim.

Heck, this a fighting game, we dont even need that kind of content, let that for other genres

For the record, I abhore that line of thinking. No game's genre categorization should make it okay to leave out features that would only serve to improve the product. I'd like some plot and character development in my fighting games, not cardboard cutouts of "Mr. Fists" and "Mrs. Ninja" and then be charged sixty [censored] dollars for it. MvC3's extreme lack of content outside of plain vs. matches and poor online system just shows that Crapcom is losing its ability to give a [censored] about its customer base. And now it outsources its DMC franchise to some lazy, amateurish action game developer, and I may never even rent their game, let alone wait until it's cheaper than a third world country hoker.

The Graphics are ok but that's because of Gamebryo which kinda explains the technical problems that the game had. I have never seen a more buggy game then Divintiy 2(New Vegas looks like a Saint in comparasion). You load a save game and it takes you back to the place where you saved before that save.

Easily the worst game that I've ever purchased.

What was the worst game you've ever paid full price for?

Civilization 5.

Did you do any research before you bought it?

None.

Why did you decide to get it?

Because Civ 4 was a great game.

How long into the playing did you regret making that purchase?

About 2 days, once the pathetic inner workings of the game uncovered themselves.

Did you managed to convince a retail clerk to take it back?

Nope, twas a Steam purchase.

Still collecting dust on my shelf.

I didn't even get the pleasure of slam-dunking the game in the bin, as all i have is a digital copy.

If you look at jag1313's avatar pic, that's what i looked like on day two of playing the game, but with a little bit more hair.

I almost forgot that I bought that game day one, horrible waste of money. The idea of the game was fantastic, but it was so repetitive and boring. I actually had to force myself to finish the game before Assassin's Creed II came out.

To be fair, the inner workings of Civ 5 can be overcome if you don't mind playing Marathon-length games on the easiest difficulty as Japan. Otherwise... yeah.

I hated how assassins creed tried to do the future thing. I would have liked it much more if it was the past. The story is so ott it puts me off. Gameplay was repetative too.

Im kinda pissed at metro 2033 atm, its on normal mode, its kinda tough, but I did a mission where I was sneaking, got far, then enemies decided "hey instead of going on this path, lets go in here" it wasnt one or 2, I had like 5 nazis coner me in a room, they walked right up to me becuase stealth dosent seem to mean [censored] in this game. It gets better, my last checkpoint is about 3 seconds before they arrive and murder me. I got out once, then ended up being tracked and surrounded and died again. Its a great atmopsphere and good story, but the game is broken if you want to play as a stealth character.

I didnt pay full price, but the fact I am unable to complete that mission and need to reload really annoys me.

I never finished Metro 2033, and I wish I could afford to buy it again. Stealth doesn't really become viable until late in the game.

Assassin's creed was something that could've been better in my opinion. I do not like the future thing either, it's a bit convoluted for me. I would've liked it more if it just stayed in one time period.

Metro 2033 is a great game, but the stealth is quite difficult to execute. If you make one tiny mistake, it's all over.

I too did not care for the future aspect of the game. Although, I do feel that they did a much better job with it in the second game, since they fleshed it out more. I just wish they would give us a new character to play, Ezio for three games is a bit too much if you ask me, and I have no real interest in playing as Altair again.

Yeah, same here. It's an interesting concept, but sometimes it seems the game goes out of its way to tell you "Lol, you aren't REALLY in the 1100s/1500s, you know." It just feels awkward and really took me out of the experience. Good games, but I don't really like the way they seemed to force the whole "animus" concept on you. If I want to pretend to be this awesome parkour-jumping, scumbag-stabbing assassin, I should be allowed to do that without the game going out of its way to tell you where you really are storyline-wise.

I got past the stealth parts in the end, jsut turned it into easy mode so enemies do less damage, then I ran.
Yeah stealth svcks, also air weapons when I want to put the pressure up they dont always pump...

Stealth is brutal, still all stealth achivements done now, and the consequences of stealth seem minor after I got backed into a corner with a snarling librarian. Then other librarians attacked on sight.
I love the atmosphere of this game though, just gameplay issues.

What was the worst game you've ever paid full price for? - Final Fantasy XIV Online CE box
Did you do any research before you bought it? - A little but obviously not enough!
Why did you decide to get it? - Mainly due to friends from other MMO's moving to it.
How long into the playing did you regret making that purchase? - After about an hour when I started to think..... so yeah... wheres the content??
Did you managed to convince a retail clerk to take it back? - Unfortunately not, with it having an online activation code I was unable to return it.

Only good thing that came from this purchase was the CE Metal FF branded cup.

What was the worst game you've ever paid full price for?
Brink

Did you do any research before you bought it?
Yes, I did. I followed it up until release.

Why did you decide to get it?
I read the awful reviews, but Quake Wars, also from Splash damage, didn't get hot reviews either, and I LOVED that game, so I figured...

How long into the playing did you regret making that purchase?
A few weeks. At first, when I couldn't get into a real multiplayer match, I figured it would be patched up pretty quick. After all the supposed "fixes", I still couldn't get into a match with just humans. It's not my connection, as I don't have a single lag or connection problem with any other game...ever. It's Brinks crappy netcode, and it's a damn shame.

Did you managed to convince a retail clerk to take it back?
I still haven't taken it back. i'm going to wait for the free dlc, and hope that maybe it comes with some sort of other fix for the netcode. If I play the DLC, and it is still awful, then I'm going to take it back. And it will be a sad day in gaming for me, as I rarely ever return anything.

Other than that, some other bad full price purchases:
Bioshock 2
Assassins Creed (Not a bad game, just zilch replay value, should have waited for a price drop)
Modern Warfare 2 (Not a bad game for me. I actually like CoD, but I don't like how they charge full price for them honestly. It's a good game, but not worth near 60 bucks)
Dragon Age 2 (Self explanatory, killed everything that was awesome about the original)
Pretty much any Final Fantasy game after X. Don't like the direction the series is going in.

Black Ops. I knew it was going to look like WAW but I still bought it...

LA Noire is another big one. I definitely should've rented it. There was no replay value..

I just recently beat L.A. Noire and I can definitely see why people think it has no retail value. But I'm easily amused, so I like playing through certain cases again and again. =D

[PROTOTYPE] takes the cake for me, though. I expected a hardcoe, kill everything and never die kind of game, and that's what I got. But I also expected at least a tiny sliver of story or interesting characters. Definitely far from either. Also, no replay value.

Probably Civ 5. Civ 4 is just better at the moment. Maybe an expansion will change that.

Spore was another one. I was just hoping for a game that it wasn't supposed to be.

I don't think I've regretted anything else at full price in quite some time. Although there are plenty of $30 games I do regret as well.
