Worst Full Price Game Purchase

Post » Fri Jul 15, 2011 9:28 am

What was the worst game you've ever paid full price for?
Dragon Age 2

Did you do any research before you bought it?
not really, heard some stuff i didnt like about it, but had faith that it would still be a pretty good game.

Why did you decide to get it?
I Really liked the first game, despite it being rather linear. loved the environment and the setting felt cool, actually felt like a hero when playing it.

How long into the playing did you regret making that purchase?
after about 3 days, my gamestop has a "if you dont like it, you can trade it back in within 5 days of the original purchase" deal, and i wondered whether or not i was content with it, i was not. it was a disappointment in so many ways, graphics actually looked worse, dungeons were mostly just reskins, fighting got boring as hell after a couple of days, didnt think the characters were as likable, it went on in one big city, WTF!

Did you managed to convince a retail clerk to take it back?
yep, and the clerk made me feel bad. (the cute chick that works there is a rabid DA and ME fan.)

The story of Prototype is hidden in those people you have to hunt. Like story of Metroid Prime is hidden in the scan visor ;)

Why did you regret/dislike it ?

Boring combat, generic characters, mostly monotone voices, long load-times, pretty much the same Sci-fi setting as Star Trek but worse, it didn't feel like you had any real choices in the dialogs but could just say the same thing in different tones, uninteresting story that didn't give me enough reason to save the world.
Overall one of the worst games I've ever played and also the most overrated game ever.

Worst game I ever bought? Dragon Age Origins. Yes I did research it, read tons of great reviews and had a few friends tell me it was a good game. Played for a few hours before I put it down and never touched it again. Gameplay mechanics were awful in my opinion, combat was terrible and hard to control and I didnt like how the character you controlled was displayed way above where he/she was. Just not my type of game.

To this day I still don't understand why people don't like GTA IV,

For me it's because there is so little to do once the rather short main story is over compared to the freedom of San Andreas, yes the city in 4 is beautifully created, but other than driving around listening to the radio there really is nothing else left to do, in San Andreas i could escape to the countryside, walk across the desert in my boxer shorts, or just fly a plane, it had a lot of RPG elements that even though watered down were still welcome and were entirely missing from 4, if ever there is a great series that really needs some fresh new ideas its GTA.

I sort of get the feeling that the people who made GTA4 said, right! San Andreas was too crazy! too big! with too many options! too attentive of what our fans wanted, now we are going to make the fine art GTA we always wanted and we aren't going to add all the fluff from before, and they ended up with GTA4, a good game indeed, but way too reliant on a short main story, take that and the euphoria physics away and you aren't left with much after that, it lost the spirit, customisation, freedom and dare i say it, ambition of of San Andreas, even if as a game it was a more polished product.

In books there are some authors who's main goal is to write for the public, and there are some authors who's main goal is to impress other authors, i feel GTA4's developers were trying to impress other developers with their game by showing how streamlined, how polished and how organised they could make it, and they forgot about the fun, San Andreas in my opinion was one of the few times that the fans were right when they asked for so many things, and got them. (blimey i'm long-winded)

To be fair, the second DLC brought back a lot of the over-the-top stuff from the GTA3-era games. Wreaking havoc with the Buzzard attack helicopter, N.O.O.S.E. APC, or the explosive shotgun/sniper definitely invoked memories of that era.

Always take points of bioware games with reviews. I saw one revier who saidhe wanted to give it a lower score but "I couldnt, its dragon age". Most reviewers also overhype any popular game. Even good ones like skyrim.

I find it interesting to see Fallout 3 on here a lot.

I found it to be one of the best wastes of money ever. Played 100+ hours for $60:

100/60 that's at least a 1 per hour. Pretty cheap entertainment if you ask me.

Metroid: Other M.

This is the first game ever that actually made me put down my controller and hold my head in confusion. Not to mention the god awful headache's it gave. If you've ever watched or, better yet, read The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, think of how the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is described and how Zaphod and Ford react to drinking it. That was pretty much me through the entire game. Yes I finished it, no I am not proud of that in any way.

I followed that game all the way to release and wasn't finding anything I disliked about the game at all. I wish I could go back and beat myself with a brick. That would've been more enjoyable than playing that game.

No don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the metroid series. There wasn't a game released before Other M that I felt was poorly made in the slightest. I can't even look at the series in the same way knowing what the canon storyline is now.

To sum up: Other M is like a horrible tumor on what was a great series.

Prototype and X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Wasn't a huge fan of Prototype and I finished X-Men in a few hours.

I have to say Dragon age: Awakening.
The story was total ass-pull, and while it had many nice aspects in it, it was dreadfully short and meaningless.

There's quite a few and I make more conscious choices with my games now. But my most recent "bad purchase" was Two Worlds 1 when it came out.
