Anybody getting tired of waiting for the patch?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:38 am

So we're going to have to wait more than a week? This is madness.
I thought this meant it would be released tomorrow or something.

You've waited this long. Like I said, optimistically it should be before Friday. I doubt highly that Microsoft really goes through every bug that Obsidian/Bethesda has checked off as "fixed" to ensure it is indeed fixed, this would take a long time for every game that gets patched and require a massive staff. Their certification process is likely accepting the patch from various test machines, ensuring that each game boots and is playable, and signing off on it.

Your best bet, if you're interested, is to search out how long the time was between Fable 3's patch being sent to Microsoft for certification, and when it actually was available on machines. Fable's bug list was fairly large and included a few save corruption issues too, and everyone's claiming that every other company has been more forward with information than Bethesda/Obsidian has been, so, that information should be trackable.

patch notes would be nice!

if its been submitted then you must know whats been fixed.
at least give us something else to moan about whilst waiting for cert testing.

Once the update is out, we'll include notes. As noted earlier today, we've submitted everything to Microsoft and Sony... so we're close. It's likely to be this week or the next. It won't be today.

I did the research out of boredom/curiosity...

Lionhead Studios announced on November 23rd that their "title update" was coming. It COULD be assumed that when they said it was "coming soon" and explained what issues it would fix, that it either had gone for Cert testing by that point, or was about to. The actual patch arrived on December 1st, which would be 7 business days.

Also, this link may help as well: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2008/11/so_how_long_do_sony_and_microsofts_approvals_processes_take-2/

nothing to do with Bethesda.
This is the usual situation of Obsidians reach exceeding its grasp.
They might have wonderful ideas but they lack the technical ability, time and dedication to implement them properly or at all.. resulting in majorly bug filled, rushed games.

Not that old chestnut!

My first point would be this- If its Obsidians fault, why is everybody not complaining on their website?

You may have a point about Obsidian lacking ability etc. since they have a track record of releasing buggy software.
However, since Obsidian appear to be the bottom rung in the ladder, then Bethesda employed them to create this game or possibly chose to release the game for them. Either way, Bethesda are the people who have decided that the game was of releasable quality, therefore the buck stops with them.
If they released the game on Obsidians word that it was perfect and fault free then they dropped the ball by not making sure that it actually was.

I personally am under the impression that Bethesda rushed Obsidian into finishing the game, cutting corners, rushing testing, deleting content (how many houses are there boarded up? Also what happened with the creatable weapons e.g. Rock it launcher?).Therefore, getting the game out before Xmas and before the likes of Fable 3 and COD were released to capitalise on the Xmas market.

There is no way that this game would have been released before Xmas (or released with enough time to impact on the Xmas marketplace) if it was allowed to be completed 100% with all content included and fully tested.

That is my opinion anyway.

If memory serves well, Gearbox announced certification for Borderlands for the fourth update. I was expecting to wait a week, but it came a few days afterwards. So who knows really. Add in the fact that there are hardly any releases at the moment, and we could be looking at this week. Hopefully.

All in Microsoft's hands now. Oh well, the long wait is over. Almost. ^^

Alright one question how come big games like Black Ops and Assassin's Creed get there patches certified so fast but we will probably have to wait a couple weeks for New Vegas's patch?

"Weeks" means "Weeks", it doesn't mean "3 weeks". There are 52 Weeks in a year. Your arbitrary numbering system isn't what they're going on. If it takes 6 weeks, that's still "the coming weeks". I think you're all very very spoiled by how instant you have everything these days, instead of the days when you'd order something and they'd say "please allow 6 - 8 weeks for delivery".

yes they weren't specific as to how many weeks but spoiled? spoiled as in when i pay sixty something dollars of my money that i worked for,for a game that doesn't just have minor bugs(what game doesn't have a few minor problems?) but major bugs that freeze and crash the game i went to turn my game in and get my money back but nope i just get another copy of the game and its still [censored] up i want it fixed and fixed right [censored] now its 2010 were in the time of technology the fact that the game was released with this many errors is no less then insulting and now their going to try and charge us with a dlc this soon i call for a boycott

While you may not want to with the news released today on the patch, shove Fallout New Vegas behind your shelf of games. Forget about. And then, eventually, the DLCs will be featured on the Deal of the Week on the 360. Wipe the dust off of your copy, it will have given Bethesda/Obsidian/Microsoft an efficient amount of time to fix what is wrong . . . . It is going to take a few more patches to fix all bugs one hundred percent.

And, hey, to the guy that mentioned Fable 3's bugs . . . their glitches were minuscule compared to FO:NV's issues. It is mind-blowing that a game with so many branches like Fable 3 didn't get botched any worse (the only glitch I've encountered was a Brit voice going "I am not impressed in the slightest" for a few days . . . highly annoying, but at least the game is playable).

In this day and age, most games will have glitches bad enough to require patches.

And is it true that there were only five testers for FO:NV listed on the credits? -face palm- I haven't been a gamer for very long, but oi to the vey. :shakehead:

That was me... Anyway, see, there's people that reported major problems with Fable 3, so you're on the other end right of that spectrum, see? For me, I encountered zero game breaking issues with my New Vegas, a handful of freezes, but all in all I'd say it was very playable. There are lots of people who disagreed with me about that. Same deal with Fable 3, I bet there's a lot of people that would tell you on their forums that you're completely wrong for saying the game is playable, the people that had their saves corrupted or fell off the edge of the world.

Well, we really have no way to know if it was sent our for cert before and came back with requests for more problem solving and microsoft's requests have now been met and sent back again. But it really doesn't matter because either way it's nearer to us customers now than before. And in the end, that is the most important.

We can't possibly know what has taken place or the work and time that has gone into all of this across all three platforms. It could be delays for any number of reasons.

Well we could know, except Bethesda doesn't inform anyone of anything.. They didn't even inform me I was going to be a beta-tester on a bug riddled product for 80+ dollars.. I guess the only good thing is the deck of cards worked as advertised, except well.. Caravan svcks.

if it had a decent story and the humour was better written, it would be a contender,
as it is it's merely very good

if anyone thinks the game will be 100% fixed, i am sorry to be the one who breaks it to you, but i'm sure there will still be some nagging issues after the patch, but hopefully we can all actually play the game without our saves being corrupted!

I've said this to myself over this patch period. Providing I can play the game without any one of my saved games corrupting, be able to finish every side/main storyline quest with no problems, and have no freezing in VATS I can quite easily overlook lengthy loading times, and NPC/enemy clippings; with the exception of main characters for the reason stated above. If there are any of these issues once the patch has been rolled out.

I don't think every bug/glitch will be fixed, but so long as the ones I feel will hinder my enjoyment of the game are ironed out I won't mind. I honestly cannot wait to finally boot this game up. Once it is installed to my 360, I highly doubt I'll be playing anything else. :P

That's great for him but many of us have played many more hours than him before we started encountering bugs. There are hundreds of known issues and that's why we're all here in this forum on this thread waiting for a patch.

It was fine for me (saw a few minor bugs but they didn't really matter much).....until I got to Vault 34. We're not saying the game is completely unplayable. We're saying we eventually encounter a bug that makes it unplayable. The DLC save bug is the main issue here and we CANNOT load our save games because of it.

All you have to do is pay attention to every single release Obsidian has ever made to know that we are just two patches and two months into a process which will take many more months and many more patches and in the end the game will still be buggy and poorly executed. It's what Obsidian does.

I want to love Obsidian but they do this crap every single damn time. It's pathetic and disgusting and they truly, honestly need to fire or re-train every single person in their internal QA/cert/testing process. It is predictable that their games will ship broken and it is wholly systemic. People will cry about them not having the proper time and that is true but all the time in the world wouldn't help the technical ineptitude which they exhibit game after game after game.

This is yet another Obsidian release which is a great game buried in a technical nightmare. After all of these years it appears to be all that they are capable of.

well except with alpha protocal where there were no patches,
so the game never worked at all for some people

I guess I was wrong about MS being the cause of the patch taking so long...by the way, I did NOT blame MS for the quality of this game :/ No need to be an ass about it, and I was just speculating. I just hope that the patch took so long only because Obsidian really wanted to clean this thing up. If not, and there are still plenty of bugs after the patch...well, I have plenty of other games to play.
