You're really going to judge the other 6 multiplayer modes based on
deathmatch?
The multiplayer demo definitely taught me one thing-- I won't be playing deathmatch.

I understand why they chose to only allow that deathmatch to be playable, but I also think it hurt their chances at sales; mainly because the Marines are severely underpowered in deathmatch, which will steer people away. If an Alien or Predator manages to get close to them they're insta-killed. Teamwork is and will be a huge part of playing as a Marine so deathmatch just isn't right for 'em, but I'm excited for the other modes like the "hunting" one (one Predator and 8 marines or whatever it was).
EDIT: Though I do feel that the Alien combat isn't as well done as in previous games. I miss being able to pounce, now you can only do these wimpy jumps that are only useful for wall-crawling.
Oh you can pounce, just not in any way that can kill anything. The alien is definitely a different flavor in this game than what you may be used to but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Personally I feel this one is more true to the movies than the ones in the other games.
There was this one point where a marine was trying to fight off another alien. He might have survived the attack but he didn't see me running up behind him from the wall. I stuck my tale through the back of his head and that was all she wrote. Would have been perfect in a team deathmatch. Even so, me and the other alien chose to go our separate ways after that one instead of fight each other over the kill. It's little moments like that that make me love this game.
The feedback from the other players is pretty fun too. I keep forgetting what some of the other players might be going through. After I manage to kill a marine I'll often hear them freaking out over their mic. I think I was starting to get to some of them.
How stable does the demo seem to run? Overall how does it seem like it will turn out? Does it have a similar feel to the first two?
For myself I haven't had a single crash. But I've heard some people with ATI cards are having trouble. The mouse controls were laggy at first but I turned off v-sync and ambient occlusion and it's fine now. As for the feel, it's the same but different. The new controls take a bit of getting used to. If you play alien you might want to turn on auto-transition to avoid having to mash the middle mouse button every time you come to a wall.
For the predator I'm still getting used to using r and f to cloak and change vision modes. I could reassign them to something I'm used to but I'm afraid that might interfere with the new focus mode so I'm leaving them alone for now. Using q as the sprint key also feels a little awkward.
For the predator and alien there's much less emphasis on range. As I mentioned, the pounce attack is virtually gone. You can still use focus mode to pounce onto walls and ceilings which is pretty useful. I never got much of a chance to use the predator weapons. The cloak seems much more efficient as are the claws which are likely going to be your main weapons. From what I've seen from other players, the other weapons seem to work pretty well if you can get a hold of them.
The marine is what you'd expect. Point and shoot until things stop moving. The M41A pulse rifle appears to lose accuracy the longer you fire it but at the speed everything else comes at you you're better off just laying it on. But I suppose if you're in a group you could try short, controlled bursts.
