Why not just make it light up when the user is online like it used to? Doesn't make much sense for everyone's little online/offline icon to be gray. What is it with all the gray!?

Yeah, I like the light to see who is on. I like gray but not too much. Now you can see who looks at your profile.

Also pages don't go by 20 posts anymore. I'll get used to it but a bit annoying.

... yes they do. Mine was set to 20 by default, and it's an option you can change.

How big is your resolution?!

My resolution isn't what makes it not fit. It's that I don't browse the internet using my entire screen. I'm always multi-tasking, and so my browser window takes up just over half of my 1440x900 resolution.

I run at 1680x1050, and I've got my browser zoom set to 140% to eliminate the gray borders without tripping up the search bar. Despite the ginormous text via zooming, it's actually quite bearable without all that wasted space.

Really, I would like it a lot more if we could get rid of the stalking toolbar at the top.

They could at least make it collapseable.

Yes there was.

Thanks, that clears some stuff up.

Also, are the indicators for if you have already read all posts in a thread still there?

Other than my brain hurts from the strain, I only dislike one thing: The doubling of stars. The star setup we had before was perfectly fine, it was easy to see if someone had a lot of posts, as easy as counting to five! Now it's 123456789101112131415......

It was at 30 posts by default for me, I just figured out how to change it back.
Wait so is this black theme the only one we have right now?

I think that might come.
If it just stays gray all the time it's really stupid.

Looks like it's meant to be lighted. Maybe the function qill come during the week.

Each forum looks as ugly as the last, only Elder Scrolls manages to look SLIGHTLY acceptable.

You got me curious, but I admit so far I didn't make it further than "Brink".

... Okay, I'll stop commenting about CD's Color scheme. :D

OK so after taking a look in some other sub-forums, like http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/forum/53-brink/, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/forum/61-wet/ and http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/forum/40-fallout/ I figured out that it's not the fact that the new layout doesn't scale depending on resolution per se that makes it look bad, but the fact that the background in community discussion is all just grey. The layout in those sub-forums also doesn't scale to use 100% of screen width but it still looks good because the backgrounds are colourful.

If the discussion is supposed to be general in the general discussion sub-forum (which I'm pretty sure is) it doesn't mean that the sub-forum background cannot be something specific. If it was something colourful like in those other sub-forums it would make it look MUCH better. It can be anything as long as it's semi-colourful and not dull.

I think something with Bethesda logo on it or something along those lines, it would make the most sense as well.

I wanted to re-post this idea, I hope no one minds... (Pages fly by so quickly I don't want it to go unnoticed.)

Forgive me for not reading the other two threads but I just can't. This tiny window crap is giving me a serious headache. I hoped the forums would be back with better servers and niceties like that. Whoever came up with this hare-brained idea needs a kick in the pants, IMO. I hate it and won't be spending much time here for anything other than PM'ing friends. The only thing I like is the addition of this:

I wouldn't be surprised if there were many more people like this. It would probably take a lot more than this to stop me being here, but if my eyes can't take the strain I doubt I'll be on as much. Maybe it will take some adjustment, but I don't think I've seen a webpage hurt my eyes so much since the late 1990s.

Nope, not at all. It's buried in each subforum. Don't ask me why they think 7 different links (one in each subforum) is better than one single one on the main page, tho.

My resolution isn't what makes it not fit. It's that I don't browse the internet using my entire screen. I'm always multi-tasking, and so my browser window takes up just over half of my 1440x900 resolution.

I do the same thing. It works quite nicely (well, except with this new layout here).

Another thing I don't like? There's virtually no difference between the icon for "new posts" and "no new posts".

For all of those people who kept accusing the mods of being coy:

As I mentioned in the last thread the new sections are only for FPSs:

The Elder Scrolls Legends: Falanu Hlaalu

The Elder Scrolls Awesomeness: Morr0wned

Alright the game names are obviously fictitious but all of the new sections are for FPSs :hehe:

They should have just left it alone...I hate how narrow the window is.

Can't you zoom in?

As for keeping them as they were, to some extent Bethesda needs to keep their IPB version up to date. Now they do have a lot of flexibility with this (we were first told about this forum update in JUNE!) but eventually if they refuse to update they'll run in to problems.

Second, given the number of complaints we got about the forum index being too long after adding WET, and then Rogue Warrior and Brink, and then Fallout New Vegas, we had to do something new when adding all of these other titles.

Was there a forum purge?

It was a week or so before the update.

You have it backwards. The 200 post limit is a moderator imposed rule to help make their jobs easier. It's just like the no politics/religion threads rule. It NEVER had anything to do with server strain.

However culling, which is deleting threads several months old, DOES have to do with server strain. I'd like to see that eliminated.

The 200 post limit was originally for server strain, but this was back when the forums ran on UBB instead of IPB (and if you think this latest update was drastic you should have been here in 2004). After switching to IPB there was no need to limit thread length for server reasons but we kept this limit around because it make moderation easier and restarting threads tended to keep them fresher.

I dunno, I think in he old days pople used to take courses on how not to clutter a webpage with useless fluff, I think having a transparent background like Brink is too distracting and eye straining when we're essentially trying to read prose. More like a book and less like an Iphone.
QFT

Things may be tweaked in the upcoming days but I imagine as people get used to the changes they'll warm up to them. Having to search around for functions that used to be at your fingertips will make anyone cranky but it shouldn't take long to become accustomized to the layout.
You have no idea how wrong you are, In my case at least..

People can have opinions, but damn! I have never heard so much complaining before. :violin:

dude, it's like walking into your favourite bar, only to find it painted dayglo orange or something. For me, it unacseptable when I can't even look at the [grrrrrrr]ing screen and have to look away not to get a

That and you have to hover over an icon to see whether someone is on-line or off-line while previously you could see it immediately without having to wait for a pop-up.

Give me a way to remove the damn borders at the sides (at my resolution its ~25% less space for posts which means about the same amount of added scrolling) and to minimize the bar at the top and I'll be happy ;)

Though a bit higher speed wouldn't hurt - the boards were faster before...

It's actually not that hard to tell the difference between dark grey, and light grey once you get used to it.
