Bethesda - Bringing Mods to the Console.

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 6:35 am

Never heard Shogun 2 running on consoles anyway.

The point is, most PCs bought few years ago can run multi platform games perfectly, most of the times better than consoles.

But when it comes to PC exclusive games, developers won't have to worry about making a game that runs on a 5 years old console, so they can increase the specs dramatically to allow modern PCs to perform their duty and show their capabilities.

This also shows why a lot people say console game is holding back gaming technologies in general.

I'm aware it won't run on consoles, I'm talking about PCs in general.

Console = Will run any game made for it

PC = Will not run every game made for it

That's the biggest difference, and PCs don't last 2 console generations.

Mind you I agree PC gaming is better, especially for free content and better visuals and anti-aliasing and such. But it's just not fiscally possible for most people. Unless you have a great job or live rent free, it's not all that easy. With a [censored] economy, console makes more sense for most people.

M$ and Sony won't allow it. How Valve got free Portal 2 DLC out I'll never know

You're barking up the wrong tree. It's the console overlords Microsoft and Sony that won't allow it.

I'd wager it's because valve is capable of living off pc only if they were forced to, valve already has quite a base set up to support it, with that knowledge they're not left without footing to stand on in negotiations with console overlords, it's not their way or no way.

It would be nice if console players got their own dumb-downed version of the creation kit maybe put limits on it to prevent the overpopulation of npcs/gear/etc.... it would give the console players a taste of the mod community without completely robbing it from the PC users (since they could still implement their own custom made gear and graphics). Hell charge us for I would gladly drop 40 dollars to be able to mod my own worlds and quest lines on console (I'm a poor grad student so even a baseline pc that can play Skyrim is outa my league)

If Bethesda teamed up with Sony and Microsoft and repackaged and sold user made mods I would hope the gaming community would take up arms. Such an action goes against everything that is sacred in the realm of PC gaming, PC culture and Bethesda's roots
I understand many people playing games today on consols have no idea what grass roots PC gaming culture is about and think of gaming as going to a big souless store and buying a Micro$oft product but that is still no excuse at all for bringing up an abomination. Stop feeding the beast, get a gaming PC, (no need for 1000+ beasts, something $500+ is enough) join the gaming community and become a member, you don't think anyone working at bethesda grew up playing Nintendo do you? you don't think modders are playing Ipad games do? everything you enjoy come off the creative workings of PC gaming culture

This is offensive enough, yeesh.

If someone has a 300 dollar console, why the hell would they pay 500 plus dollars for a gaming rig as well? Does money grow on trees to you?

Do you not use a PC in your home, combine cost of home PC with console (components in your console are probably less then $150) and you have an all in one entertainment unit

Well he brings up a point, mods are community works, people other than bethesda. What's offensive is consolers thinking it's ok to take these peoples work and package it up with a ms/sony tag to distribute themselves.

Who said anything about ms/sony tags? Why do you think console players think this way. I have no idea where you got that idea from; maybe I missed something earlier in the thread(9 pages is a lot of stuff to go through, can't remember all of it). The EULA for mods are/would be with Bethesda, right? Without Bethesda's permission, the mods go nowhere. As far as I know, Bethesda has been quite respectful toward the modding community, so if a modder doesn't want their mod on consoles, Beth would probably oblige. Hopefully.

You do realize you're talking about EA? If ever there was a model for how to be a bastard publisher, Electronic Arts is it. Most of the horror stories about that sort of thing are about EA games. Ubisoft's getting to be a bit like that as well. I pray to several of the major gods each night that Bethesda never goes down that road and I thank all of them each morning I learn Bethesda has not gone down that dark path.

Creations kit is in January.

As for the likelihood of this... don't hold your breath. Talk is cheap.

You want my advice? Talk is cheap, talk to everyone... you don't listen, you never learn.

Well lets see, I bought a cheap laptop 2 years ago for college and an Xbox 6 years ago for games. Combining the two costs at once? No.
