Bethesda - Bringing Mods to the Console.

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 9:49 am

"Bethesda's Todd Howard said that the content made with the Skyrim Creation Kit would work on consoles just as well as it would the PC; it was, after all, the tool that Bethesda had used to make the game. The problem, Howard said, was that there wasn't an avenue for delivering the content to console gamers yet, but that Bethesda was talking with Microsoft and Sony in order to try and make it happen. Even if these efforts were successful however, he didn't think it would be something that would be up and running in time for the game's launch in November."

So...Any ETA on the Creation Kit and/or if Bethesda shall enable mods on the console?

Creations kit is in January.

As for the likelihood of this... don't hold your breath. Talk is cheap.

I think the worst part about mods on consoles would be the legions of players yelling at Bethesda because they downloaded a mod that broke their game.

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, and one more time, please. If mods came onto the consoles I would absolutely love Bethesda.

Although, their are various modded save games available out there, via Modio and such, but it's nowhere close to what PC players have available to them.

Its just no possible, consoles could not handle the mods. They are not user friendly, you never know what 2 will do together, unless you know what your doing, in which case you would have this game for PC.

Halfway through:

WHATTTTT???? YESSSSSS

other half:

ohhh.... :cryvaultboy:

2 more years of saving up disposable income and I'll be able to get myself a PC. 4 years after that and we got a new TES game.

6 years and counting...

What about next-gen consoles? Todd said that the team at Bethesda would be able to do much more in future games on next-gen consoles, who knows what possibilities they can bring?

I just don't see why Bethesda pick the best mods and filter it and fix it so it's console worthy and sell it cheap on the consoles, or better yet do what the developers of Two Worlds did and put console commands in, make it a DLC and sell it for say 800 to 1200 MSP (I don't know how much it will cost on PS3)

Bethesda want it but free content does not compute with M$ no matter what BS excuse they give about it not being possible ATM.
If this has any chance of seeing light of day on console, Sony will have to be the ones to bring it in and show M$ what they are missing.
Saying that though, I'd put money on it that we won't be seeing anything in the form of Bethesda's creation kits for console until the next gen's have been out for a few years at least.

Sounds nice, but I don't know how that would even work out. Don't you have to type for console commands? I would buy the keypad for it but it would be a hassle for others wouldn't it?

It won't happen, unless the modding was seriously limited in scope. The hardware on the two console couldn't handle most mods that improve graphics. Using those kinds of mods on the console would be a concern since they could really tax those systems, causing over-heating and crashing. What I think could be allowed not made by modders, is an in-game app that can allow for adjusting the powers/stats of enchanted items/weapons or ratcheting up one or all of the attributes of the player. Also, allow the same app to be able to adjust the enemy's attributes and powers, so as to create a custom game.

It can happen, would have to be through MS and Sony distribution channels which means a charge for each involving modders, bethseda, sony/ms getting a cut. The modder agreeing to support the mod and a strict set of do's and do nots.

HQ Texture packs would be out as would anything relying on skse or dragon script, advlt content probably out, anything even based on another game, anything that edits saves and anything that changes vanilla code. So lots of generic weapons/items packs would be left assuming Beth didn't mind the competition.

As for the likelihood of this... don't hold your breath. Talk is cheap.

Bethesda can't do this as Sony and Microsoft won't let them. Sony and Microsoft want to personally inspect anything that goes near their consoles and they have no real interest of going through free user produced content like that.

I don't mind the awkwardness of typing it manualy using my Xbox controler, and it'd work out, just make it so you have to press a combonaition of buttons or put the option the menu-journel-thing.

This will probably reveal my inept comp knowledge, but couldn't something like Willowtree be created? For those unfamiliar with WT, it was a program developed for Borderlands which allowed you to do all sorts of fun stuff with your save files..

consoles can handle mods what do you think DLCs are?

DLC′s are professionally designed add ons or changes to a game made by a professional and organized team of developers, usually the same team that made the game
Mods are add ons made by a bunch of people all over the world with varying level of skill not organized in any way shape or form and had nothing to do with the original development of the game

if you can′t see the obvious compatibility issues that would arise
I dno what else to tell you

there could be some kind of user generated content but it would have to be heavily supervised and controlled by bethesda and or Xbox PSN to ensure quality, content and compatibility
think the mod makers would also have to step these requirements and perhaps join together to meet them

(more similar to how there′s indie games on Xbox live and PSN than to the PC modding community)
