Big disappointment

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:28 am

I don’t criticise games easily but this is the worst of the series. What was Bethesda playing at? It’s like Oblivion with all the fun taken out, crap voice actors and boring quests. The guilds are just garbage and are over way too quickly. It’s not much fun either. No immersion whatsoever. No substance. Dragons appear so often they lose their shine within the first five hours and are too easy to take down.

I want my money back but will give it another few hours or play in the hope a miracle happens and it gets better after 30 hours.

Each to his own. I personally think Skyrim knocks both Morrowind and Oblivion out of the park.

Yep, Morrowind is a good 2nd place holder for me. But this game, oh boy. I ain't even gonna start about Oblivion. But yeah, each to his own. Can't argue.

I agree with the OP. But I've only played the modded version of Oblivion so I don't know if the original version of Oblivion can match Skyrim or not.

But quests in Skyrim, especially guild quests, do svck a lot.

Each to his own. Yup, you have that right. Skyrim to me is a huge letdown. It's hardly even a RPG anymore, it a action adventure game with "few" RPG elements. There is also No character upkeep whatsoever, dialog options for 11 year olds etc..Skyrim is just as overly hyped as the engine it was persuaded to be; a "new" engine. Technically it is gamebryo. TES is headed towards the most simplistic definition of what a "RPG" is. I guess they are re-inventing what a modern RPG game is now, just like they did with the "Creation Engine". RPG games are suppose to be full of complexity, options because we all like them. (spellmaking for I.E) I really don't want to continue going on about what else...Skyrim is just a disappointment, and I don't expect TES to get any better with the way things are going with games these days.

Okay, there's a lot of other good games out there.

Me? I'm loving every second of it and will enjoy it even more when the CK is out.

Dragons are really easy early on but later... It just becomes a time consuming encounter that requires lots to time to grind the dragons health down.

try turning the difficulty up (it does get pretty intense on master)
it lived up to 70% of my expectations, shame that the 30% of them based on what i saw the game engine doing... and what it doesn't in real life...

Bad news. If you don't like Skyrim pretty much off the bat I doubt the experience is going to get better for you.

You said you are bored of the dragons - they don't get more interesting.

You said the guild quests are short and lack substance - later all you'll have is "Radiant" quests and then you'll see what real lack of substance "mad lib" quest mechanics are all about.

The world doesn't drastically change around you based on your decisions. It will be in essence the same world you started with.

So my advice to you would be go on and return it if you can and you don't like it. Unless of course you are on PC in which case you should hang on for the mods, which if Morrowind and Oblivion were any indicator will make the game twice to three times as good within a few months to a year.

don't count on it. Who cares really. It is just healthy for people to vent/rant etc..You pay for a game which you were lead into being a "new" engine with a "new" way of "squashing those bugs", only to find out, "yup", it is another Bethesda release now I must wait several weeks if not months before returning to play it. The CK isn't even schedule until January. Only then, can we count on any real fixes from the true talent of modders and real game fixers. The ones Bethesda always counts on in all their games to fix their problems. Hence, they are releasing a LAA fix. Hrmm..wonder where they got that idea from.

Come back whe n you actually hve something to add to the discussion.

Yeah I agree, guilds are just aweful, quests left after them are dull too, ad in the bugs. But hype can support a poor product, look t cod, market it right and you cn still make lots of oney and have people defend it despite its glaring issues.

You bothered making a thread to spin this nonsense? No YOU don't like it, a majority of people love it, including all the critics, just coz you don't like it doesn't mean it 'svcks' it means the game isn't for you or you are playing it wrong, there is a difference. Just coz you think something is so doesn't make it fact infact I am sure you are in the minority.

Well this is my first TES game, though I am a big RPG fan. I believed the hype. I gotta say I find the game very average, and have no idea what all the fuss is about.

And there is no miracle, the game, dungeons, quests and enemies are very very VERY repetitive. I'm the opposite of you TC, I started out really liking the game (it was after all a brand new experience to me), but after the 30th dungeon that's just like the last one, and has the same enemies in it, uuurgh. I am still playing, but the moment the next game I want comes out....I'm gone. This game would not make my top 10 RPGs I've played. I really can only assume the people that love it to bit haven't played many other games, and specifically many other RPGs. Shrug.

Morrowind and Fallout 3 are Beths masterpieces.

Skyrim is good, but not great.

Such polarity on this game. I really didn't think I'd ever play another Beth game I liked as much as Fallout 3, but Skyrim has taken up almost all of my free time since it came out.

Maybe it's because I never let my expectations get too high, some people were just waaaaay over-hyped. Skyrim exceeded my expectations, and despite it's flaws, I'm unable to think of another game I'd rather be playing.

Out of curiosity which RPGs do you think are better than Skyrim?

TES was heading this way since they embraced consoles, in saying anyone who didn't see it coming is [censored].

It's an obvious hybrid that is based on trying to please the casual console player while also trying to keep the dice rollers happy.

It's a beautiful piece of programming and the fact is that for every person here moaning semantics there is at least a thousand more happily playing the game who don't even know these forums exist.

Fact.
