Cannot Install Fallout 3 New Vegas

Post » Thu Mar 03, 2011 7:16 am

if you guys have noticed gaming today is much different than gaming 10-20 years ago. DLC on the date of launch, DRM etc... all of this BS is trampling our rights.

Hell, everything is much different than 10-20 years ago. I was a lovely young lass 10 or 20 years ago.

I can't wait.

I just got a mental image of the moderators in full battle armor, ballistic jackets, helmet and boots manning heavy machine guns at the gates to the forum. As the stream of whines, cries and screams roll-in like a wave, the moderators spraying the baddies with gunfire (locked threads) and grenade/artillery (banhammer) fire to hold them back. :gun:

I wish you luck, and suggest a preemptive strike of announcements about unlock times for the 22nd release. :) ... the GameStops should have known this and informed everyone as we walked out.

But after all, It's only 3 hours :)

It really wouldnt surprise me. Consoles really are taking over...

I try to stay faithful because I enjoy PC more, but I might as well go get a PS3 and a Keyboard and mouse extension

Probably get better support.

That kinda happens when the game is developed in the US....

Same goes for when certain games are developed in the UK.

Hah, you guys are terrible. Whining and stamping your feet and promising to never buy or recommend a Bethesda game again isn't going to change the fact that you'll need to wait a few more hours than people with consoles to play the game. Come on, seriously? How about us in places that aren't America that have to wain until the 22nd? What about those miserable few that may end up waiting longer for some reason or another? Hell, you guys are basically whining about not getting it first - if you can't wait for it that much, go play poker or something until it comes out to get yourself in the mood.

Not to mention that you're all heaping the blame on Steam, which likely has less control over the release date than Obsidian does. It's as if GFWL never happened - with all its crash-inducing, "cheat"-blocking machinations. Here's hoping Steamworks is at least slightly better than that.

Guys, I am sorry. but really.

That much rage over a game? come on.

Heck even I am not THAT angry.

I am kinda irked, but not so bad that I would tell people NOT to buy it.

Heck, I like the collectors edition so much id almost buy a second copy to keep it sealed and mint.

Personally, I'm irked enough that IF I buy NV it will likely be after the GOTY edition (assuming there will be one) just so I don't need to mess with Steam game patches again. & then maybe get the Collector's edition to get the extras I wanted in the first place.

I feel your pain :shakehead:

Sure, you can discredit a game for being ''just a game, get over it'' but gaming in different degrees is very important to people and it's arrogant to discredit something that's more important to someone other than yourself.

People should not have to read through forums ahead of a game's release to find out if they can play it when they buy it. (Although now it's something I feel like I will have to start doing)
This also isn't the first time that Steam has caused angry gamer syndrome. (Remember Call of Duty:MW2 and Alien vs Predator on PC??) The only comparison I want to highlight between those and New Vegas is that we bought a retail copy of a game at a midnight release, only to find out that we can't play it until some designated time that Steam feels is acceptable.

Great, I can watch the 'making-of' DVD and read thru the comic book or play something else until 3AM EST, but let me give an example of how this type of situation affected me, and as demonstrated already, several angry posters here.

1.You've been waiting for a beloved franchise game to be released for weeks, months, in some cases years. And, have probably made your pre-order.
2.You've built up a level of excitement by watching trailers, movies, screen shots, previews, etc.
3.During the days leading up to release you make changes to your schedule, argue with your spouse about attending a midnight release for 'a game', and create a time completely set aside for you to enjoy what you've been waiting for.
4.You spend your time and money on the midnight event. (including the game itself, food, snacks, and gas money on trips involved with the pre order process)
5.The time finally comes at long last where you have bought your game, and rush on home to begin a night of pure fun.
6.Like a Christmas present when you were a kid, you tear open the shrink wrap and pop in your game dvd to install.. it's finally time to enjoy.
7.BOOM! Steam says you can't play until 3AM, ruining the excitement of your well-planned gaming session. (And for most, it gets further delayed/ruined because you have to get up for work the next day)
8.You immediately look for who is responsible, see the 'view forums' link in Steam, and come here to let out your justified rage caused by the denial of your hard earned gaming session ruined, that you've been looking forward to for so long.
9.(insert whatever you're doing right now here)
10. 3AM finally comes and hopefully you can enjoy your purchase, except for those who it's now ruined for who have to go back to their responsibilities.

Sorry for the long post, but it did help eat up some time.

Any company that requires an online activation for their product is doing their customers a disservice. Even Microsoft has a call-in number for activations, and allows for their product to be used for a resonable amount of time so that those without internet access can call. The only way we, the paying customers, can truely get a message to companies that do this is to hit them where it hurts-their pocketbook. Untill they see loss of revinue they will continue to think it's ok to treat us this way.

Discussion of torrents and piracy will only get you warned, suspended, both or banned. Please refrain from it. I've about 5 or 6 warns lined up to do already and more will just make me shorter tempered.

Nope it has nothing to do where it is developed. I am pretty sure it is another steam 'wonder'. The game is on the shelfs here in Austria (so no logistical problems here in Europe) but our 'lovely' steam is an American company and maybe want to get their server load a little bit down on release.

Video games are every-bit as immersive and challenging as any hobby, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with folks putting alot of time into their hobbies. It only becomes a problem when you let it affect your personal and professional life, and is every bit as valid as a hobby to get passionate about as flying planes or playing sports is. I work 40-50 hours a week, spend at least that with my family and video game every chance I get. I'm crazy-passionate about the game, and no one on planet Earth has the right to judge me as wrong for feeling so. :) This is a great night for Fallout freaks like me, better than Christmas, better than birthdays - I'm 50 minutes from becoming a very happy human being. I don't see how that's wrong.

That what happens when you don't have a universal RELEASE DATE.

This is correct, it's about CONTROL, and this day in age of the internet, publishers still have lots of control even when we have digital distribution.

its not about WAITING, its about our rights. everyone seems to forget this when trying to tell everyone to chill while getting fugged over...

it gets worse every year. DRM is BS and launch day DLC... theres political movements happening driven by the financial backdrop. theres a lot of lobbyist type BS going on. who benefits from this poor decision? steam.

i was looking at the back of the PC box and oddly enough theres small type saying (in short) "NOTICE- product offered subject to your acceptance of the steam subscriber agreement. once you get home check www.fuggin_BS.com and if you dont agree return the game unopened to your retailer..."

what the fugg is this??? really? thats a total sketchy, round about way to tell us something we would like to know up front. why couldn't someone on one of their many dev videos have mentioned this or made it a news post on the games main website page? because someone somewhere really doesnt want us to know. period.

if they did, they would have stated this info in many of the main traffic areas of this game on the internet.
